West Woodhay

West Woodhay House is a Grade I listed building in the parish of West Woodhay, West Berkshire, UK.

Hell Corner is a hamlet in the civil parish of Inkpen in the English county of Berkshire. It is situated in the West Berkshire district, south of the River Kennet, between Newbury and Hungerford and close to the Hampshire border. Although wholly within Inkpen, it lies right on the border with Kintbury and West Woodhay and adjoins Inkpen Common. Inkpen Great Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest between Hell Corner and Inkpen Common. It is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.

West Woodhay Down is a 1.5-hectare (3.7-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Berkshire and Hampshire. It is lowland Calcareous grassland with a northwest facing bank, and forms part of the northern slopes of Walbury Hill and Combe Hill. The site was formerly included as part of Inkpen and Walbury Hills SSSI.West Woodhay Down is in the civil parishes of West Woodhay and East Woodhay, to the south-west of the town of Newbury. West Woodhay parish is within the unitary authority area of West Berkshire and the ceremonial county of Berkshire, whilst East Woodhay is within the district of Basingstoke and Deane in the administrative county of Hampshire.

East Woodhay is a village and civil parish in Hampshire, England. The village is approximately 5.5 miles (9 km) south-west of Newbury in Berkshire. At the 2011 census the parish had a population of 2,914. The parish contains a number of villages and hamlets, including Ball Hill, Heath End, Hatt Common, Woolton Hill and East End. The last two have schools: Woolton Hill Junior School, St Thomas's Church of England Infant School, and St. Martin's Church of England Primary School. The parish has a small, triangular village green which has a war memorial and was once the site of the village stocks. Woolton Hill has a village shop and post office, and "The Chase", a wooded area administered by the National Trust. The summit of Pilot Hill, the highest point in the county of Hampshire, lies within the parish.

Inkpen Common or Inkpen Great Common is a 12.8-hectare (32-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Inkpen in Berkshire. It is managed as a nature reserve by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.This is a surviving fragment of the former Inkpen Common is located between the hamlets of Hell Corner and Inkpen Common. It is mainly damp heathland, with small areas of marsh, woods and bracken. Flora on the heath include purple moor grass, common gorse, lousewort, lesser dodder and the only surviving colony in Berkshire of pale heath violet.

Inkpen Common is a hamlet and former common in the English county of Berkshire, within the civil parish of Inkpen. The settlement lies south of the A4 road and approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) south-east of Hungerford. It is the location of the Crown and Garter public house. Part of the old common remains as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, called Inkpen Common SSSI, between the hamlet and Hell Corner. It is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.

Pilot Hill is the highest summit in Hampshire, England, with a maximum elevation of 286 m (938 ft). It lies around 2 miles (3.2 km) to the south-east of Walbury Hill, the county top of Berkshire, which is 297 m (974 ft) high.The hill is about 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Newbury on the Hampshire/Berkshire border and is part of the north-facing scarp of the North Hampshire Downs, a chalk ridge within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The upper slopes are open calcareous grassland, while the lower slopes are wooded.The hill lies within the civil parishes of East Woodhay (which includes the summit), Faccombe and Combe. East Woodhay is within the district of Basingstoke and Deane in the administrative county of Hampshire, Faccombe is in the Hampshire district of Test Valley, and Combe is within the unitary authority area of West Berkshire and the ceremonial county of Berkshire.

Stargroves (also known as Stargrove House) is a manor house and associated estate at East Woodhay in the English county of Hampshire. The house belonged to Mick Jagger during the 1970s and was a recording venue for the Rolling Stones and various other rock bands, as well as a filming location for Doctor Who.

Hamstead Marshall (also spelt Hampstead Marshall) is a village and civil parish in the English county of Berkshire. The village is located within the North Wessex Downs. The population of this civil parish at the 2011 census was 275.

Kintbury Newt Ponds is a 3-hectare (7.4-acre) nature reserve in Kintbury in Berkshire. It is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.The reserve is made up of several ponds, reedbed, scrub and grassland.

Gore End is a village and civil parish in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. It is in the civil parish of East Woodhay. The village is situated in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Hampshire-Berkshire border. Its nearest town is Newbury, which lies approximately 4.2 miles (6.8 km) north-east from the village.
