East Woodhay is a village and civil parish in Hampshire, England. The village is approximately 5.5 miles (9 km) south-west of Newbury in Berkshire. At the 2011 census the parish had a population of 2,914. The parish contains a number of villages and hamlets, including Ball Hill, Heath End, Hatt Common, Woolton Hill and East End. The last two have schools: Woolton Hill Junior School, St Thomas's Church of England Infant School, and St. Martin's Church of England Primary School. The parish has a small, triangular village green which has a war memorial and was once the site of the village stocks. Woolton Hill has a village shop and post office, and "The Chase", a wooded area administered by the National Trust. The summit of Pilot Hill, the highest point in the county of Hampshire, lies within the parish.

The upper slopes are open calcareous grassland, while the lower slopes are wooded.The hill lies within the civil parishes of East Woodhay (which includes the summit), Faccombe and Combe. East Woodhay is within the district of Basingstoke and Deane in the administrative county of Hampshire, Faccombe is in the Hampshire district of Test Valley, and Combe is within the unitary authority area of West Berkshire and the ceremonial county of Berkshire.

Woolton Hill is a village in Hampshire, England, in the civil parish of East Woodhay. The village lies approximately 4 miles (6 km) south-west of the centre of Newbury and encompasses the hamlet of Broad Layings on its northern edge.

Gainsborough Stud is a stud farm based in Woolton Hill, Hampshire, 3 miles (4.8 km) outside Newbury. It is owned by United Arab Emirates-based international racing operation Godolphin. It was established in 1910 to stand the racehorse Gainsborough and sold in 1981 to Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who operated it as part of his international horse breeding and racing interests, including training horses to race under his own and Godolphin's colours. On his death, Gainsborough Stud passed to Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and became part of the Darley and then the Godolphin operations.

It is lowland Calcareous grassland with a northwest facing bank, and forms part of the northern slopes of Walbury Hill and Combe Hill. The site was formerly included as part of Inkpen and Walbury Hills SSSI.West Woodhay Down is in the civil parishes of West Woodhay and East Woodhay, to the south-west of the town of Newbury. West Woodhay parish is within the unitary authority area of West Berkshire and the ceremonial county of Berkshire, whilst East Woodhay is within the district of Basingstoke and Deane in the administrative county of Hampshire.

Hambledon Rural District was a local government district that existed in south-west Surrey in England from 1894 until 1974. Its headquarters were in Guildford. In 1974 it was abolished, with the area becoming part of the new borough of Waverley.
