The Penfield Central School District is a public school district in New York State that serves approximately 4,600 students in portions of the towns of Penfield, Brighton, Perinton and Pittsford in Monroe County, and Macedon and Walworth in Wayne County, with approximately 900 employees and an operating budget of $102.6 million (~ $21,445 per student).The average class size is 23 for grades K–2, 24 for grades 3–5, and 25 for grades 6–12.

Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women is a private all-girls Catholic school teaching grades 6–12, located in Brighton, Monroe County, New York, United States, near Rochester. It is located within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester. The American Sisters of Mercy founded Our Lady of Mercy High School in Rochester in 1928, based in the tradition of the Roman Catholic sisterhood begun by Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy. The building was built in 1928, and designed by noted Rochester architect J. Foster Warner (1859–1937). It educated young women in grades 9-12 for the first six decades of its operation, branching out to include grades 7 and 8 in 1990. In September 2012, Our Lady of Mercy High School expanded to include grade 6. To reflect this change, its name was changed to Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women.

Stone–Tolan House is a historic home located at Brighton in Monroe County, New York. The 2-story frame house has a 1-story frame wing that is believed to have been built in 1792. It is a vernacular Federal-style structure and served as a frontier tavern, public meeting place, and pioneer homestead. The Landmark Society of Western New York acquired the property in 1956 to restore and preserve as a museum.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

St. John Fisher University is a private university in Pittsford, New York. It is named after John Fisher, an English Catholic cardinal and saint. It was named St. John Fisher College until July 1, 2022.

Irondequoit Creek is a stream in eastern Monroe County, New York that feeds Irondequoit Bay. It begins in rural West Bloomfield in Ontario County, flowing north into the town of Mendon in Monroe County. Accumulating a few small tributaries, it twists eastward back into the Ontario County town of Victor, then back north into Monroe County, where it flows through the towns of Perinton and Penfield on its way to the bay. It also skirts the edge of the combined town and village of East Rochester. The creek is believed to lie in a valley carved out by a pre-glacial Genesee River, which at the time would have flowed into Lake Ontario where Irondequoit Bay does today. Glacial debris caused the river to be rerouted as the glaciers retreated, leaving only the comparatively small creek (Rogers 1893). The first settlements in the town of Penfield sprang up along the creek, as its waters were well suited to mills. The Daisy Flour Mill, previously a restaurant, was the last of over a dozen mills that once used the creek's waters. The creek's valley caused a problem for the engineers of the original Erie Canal, who ultimately had to build the Great Embankment aqueduct to bridge the valley near Bushnell's Basin (Fairchild 1896:134, Farley 2010, Schoff:505). The creek is stocked annually with fish by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for year-round fishing.

The Browncroft Historic District is a national historic district located in the Browncroft neighborhood of Rochester, New York. The district contains 518 contributing buildings, two contributing sites, two contributing objects, and two contributing structures over 116 acres. It includes 417 residential properties constructed between 1914 and World War II.The neighborhood's original developer, Charles J. Brown, former president of the National Nurserymen's Association, gave it its name. It was declared a National Historic District and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. The district is "recognized for the architectural integrity of the homes, a landscape design that features uniform plantings of flowering shrubs and shade trees, and its role in the development of Rochester."

The Country Club of Rochester (CCR) is a championship golf course in the towns of Brighton and Pittsford, in suburban Rochester, New York.

The 1953 U.S. Women's Open was the eighth U.S. Women's Open, held June 25–28 at the Country Club of Rochester in Rochester, New York. It was the first U.S. Women's Open conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), and the final two rounds were played on Saturday.Betsy Rawls won an 18-hole playoff on Sunday by six strokes over runner-up Jackie Pung, 71 to 77. It was the third of eight major championships for Rawls and the second of four U.S. Women's Opens. Patty Berg set a course record with a 71 on Thursday and was the 36-hole leader on Friday evening, eight strokes ahead of the field. Her final two rounds of 80 and 79 on Saturday dropped her to solo third, one stroke out of the playoff.Notably absent was two-time champion Babe Zaharias, who was recovering from colon cancer surgery. She returned in 1954 and won by a record twelve strokes in her final U.S. Women's Open.

The 1973 U.S. Women's Open was the 28th U.S. Women's Open, held July 19–22 at the Country Club of Rochester in Rochester, New York. Defending champion Susie Berning won the third of her three U.S. Women's Open titles, five strokes ahead of runners-up Gloria Ehret and Shelley Hamlin. After a three-under 69 in the third round, Berning was the co-leader with Pam Higgins, two strokes ahead of 36-hole leader Sharon Miller.Berning was the third of seven to successfully defend the championship, following Mickey Wright in 1959 and Donna Caponi in 1970; it was the last of her four major titles. The championship was held at the course twenty years earlier in 1953, the first Women's Open conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA). It was the second consecutive Women's Open played in the state of New York; the 1972 edition was at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck.

The Can of Worms is the local name for the intersection of Interstate 490 (I-490), I-590, New York State Route 590 (NY 590), NY 96 (East Avenue), and University Avenue on the east side of Rochester, New York, in the United States. The junction was built during the 1950s and 1960s as part of the Rochester Outer Loop's construction, and rebuilt in the late 1980s to eliminate weaving caused by the interchange's original design. Although the reconstruction eliminated many of the issues, the Can of Worms name stuck and is still used locally.

Horace and Grace Bush House, also known as Bush-Fellows Residence, is a historic home located at Penfield in Monroe County, New York. It is an 1821 Federal style structure with Greek Revival period additions and embellishments. The main block is a two-story, five bay post and beam structure sheathed in clapboard. It is regular and symmetrical in massing and plan. The house was moved to its current location in 1931.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Hipp–Kennedy House is a historic home located at Penfield in Monroe County, New York. The main body of the house was built in 1838 and is in the Greek Revival style. The frame building is composed of a two-story, three-bay main block with center entrance flanked by identical 1+1⁄2-story wings. The north wing of the residence is believed to incorporate the remnants of a log dwelling built about 1804.It was designated as a Penfield landmark in 1982 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
