Rancho Santa Rosa (Moreno)

The Santa Rosa Plateau is an upland plateau and southeastern extension of the Santa Ana Mountains in Riverside County, southern California. It is bounded by the rapidly urbanizing Inland Empire cities of Murrieta and Temecula to the northeast and southeast, respectively. The Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve preserves approximately 8,400 acres (34 km2) of the plateau, and includes the Moreno and Machado Adobes, Riverside County’s oldest standing structures, and other buildings from the 19th century Mexican land grant Rancho Santa Rosa.

The Tenaja Fire was a wildfire in the rural community of La Cresta southwest of Murrieta in Riverside County, California, United States, located 80 miles from Los Angeles. The fire broke out on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 and ballooned to 1,926 acres (8 km2) over the course of two days. The blaze, dubbed the Tenaja fire after igniting along Tenaja Road and Clinton Keith Road in La Cresta, forced the evacuation of over 1,200 people and lead to the closure of multiple school districts in the Murrieta, Perris and Lake Elsinore area due to the poor air quality. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation although several sources cited the possibility of lightning being the direct cause. Two structures were damaged as a result of the fire and one firefighter suffered minor injuries. The fire was contained on September 14 and had burned 1,926 acres (779 ha).Final Report concluded that wind and SCE power line were the cause: “On Wednesday. September 4, 2019 at approximately 3:57 PM, units from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), the Riverside County Fire Department (RCOD) were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire located in the area of Tenaja Road and Clinton Keith Road, in the unincorporated area of Riverside County known as Murrieta. Units arrived on scene to find a well-established vegetation fire that had consumed several acres and was being driven by a 20-25 MPH wind towards the northeast. Wind shifts were also reported in the early stages of the incident. Due to the first 911 call, the fire was placed into the CAL FIRE system as a lightning caused fire. This was a possible cause at the time due to a thunder storm which had moved across the City of Temecula and into the Murrieta area. CAL FIRE investigators responded to the incident the following day to conduct an origin and cause investigation. CAL FIRE Officer W-4 Greg EWING conducted the origin and cause investigation. After observing fire patterns, the fire's General Origin Area (GOA) was determined to be in the wildland on the northwest side of the Tenaja Road and Clinton Keith intersection The final cause of the fire was determined to have been a direct result of powerline conductor slap. Southern California Edison (SCE) conductors arced when they swung and touched or became close enough to cause an arc due to winds in the area. This arc allowed the hot material to fall to the ground igniting the vegetation downwind. The Tenaja Fire ultimately consumed 1,939 acres of vegetation which was property owned by V-1 Riverside County Region Park and Open Space District and V-2 Department of Fish and Wildlife.”

Murrieta Valley High School (MVHS), colloquially known as MV or Murrieta opened in 1990 as the first four-year comprehensive high school in Murrieta, California. The school is nestled at the base of the Santa Rosa Plateau, at the western end of the city. It is operated by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. The Temecula Valley is a graben rift valley in western Riverside County, California. The Temecula Valley is one of the graben valleys making up the Elsinore Trough, created by the Elsinore Fault Zone. It lies between the Wildomar Fault on the east, at the foot of the Temescal Mountains and of the Temecula Basin and the Willard Fault on the west, at the foot of the Santa Ana Mountains. The Temecula Valley lies northwest of Temecula Creek, and its head (33°36′46″N 117°17′33″W) is south of the Elsinore Valley, from which it is divided by a low rise between the Temescal and Santa Ana Mountains. The valley is drained by Murrieta Creek, Temecula Creek, and their tributaries. Their confluence forms the Santa Margarita River.The original centers of the cities of Murrieta, Temecula and Wildomar are located in the Temecula Valley.

Murrieta is a city in southwestern Riverside County, California, United States. The population of Murrieta was 110,949 as of the 2020 census. Murrieta experienced a 133.7% population increase between 2000 and 2010, making Murrieta one of the fastest-growing cities in the state during that period. Largely residential in character, Murrieta is typically characterized as a bedroom community. Murrieta is bordered by the city of Temecula to the south, the cities of Menifee and Wildomar to the north, and the unincorporated community of French Valley to the east. Murrieta Mesa High School (MMHS) is a comprehensive, four-year high school located in Murrieta, California, United States. It is operated by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. The school opened in 2009 to keep up with population growth in Murrieta. The first graduating class was the class of 2012. The school derives its name from the mesa it sits on, identified in an 1884 surveyor's map of the valley.

Elsinore Valley is a graben rift valley in western Riverside County, California, a part of the Elsinore Trough. The Elsinore Valley is a graben between the Santa Ana Block to the southwest and the Perris Block on the northeast. It is a complex graben, divided lengthwise into several smaller sections by transverse faults. The Elsinore Valley graben is bounded northeast side by the Glen Ivy longitudinal fault on the north shore of Lake Elsinore at the foot of the Clevelin Hills and similarly on the southeast by the Willard Fault that runs along the foot of the Santa Ana Mountains and parallel to the Elsinore Fault along the southwest shore of Lake Elsinore to Rome Hill and the Willard Fault continues on as the west side of the Temecula Valley graben and Wolf Valley graben. At the south end of Lake Elsinore the Wildomar Fault enters the lake just east of Rome Hill, running southeast on the northwest side of the Temecula Valley. The Elsinore Valley is marked in the south by the rise between the Elsinore and Temecula Valley. In the north the valley bounds are marked by the Santa Ana Mountain ridges moved eastward along the Los Pinos and Lucerne transverse faults, dividing the Elsinore Valley from the Temescal Valley graben.
