Higashi-ku (東区) is a ward of the city of Sakai in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The ward has an area of 10.48 km2 and a population of 85,263. The population density is 8,136 per square kilometer. The name means "East Ward." The wards of Sakai were established when Sakai became a city designated by government ordinance on April 1, 2006.

Taisei Gakuin University (太成学院大学, Taisei gakuin daigaku) is a private university in Sakai, Osaka, Japan. The predecessor of the school was founded in 1916, and it was chartered as a junior college in 1987. The school became a four-year college in 1998 and adopted the present name in 2003.

Shitennōji University (四天王寺大学, Shitennōji daigaku) is a private university in Habikino, Osaka, Japan. The predecessor of the school was founded in 1922, and it was chartered as a junior women's college in 1957. The school became a four-year college in 1967, and it became coeducational in 1981, adopting the present name at the same time. The school is also known as International Buddhist University, or IBU.

Shitennoji Habikigaoka Junior and Senior High School (四天王寺羽曳丘中学校・高等学校, Shitennōji Habikigaoka Chūgakkō Kōtōgakkō) was a private junior and senior high school in Habikino, Osaka Prefecture. It is a part of the Shi-Tennoji Gakuen, a group of Buddhist educational institutions affiliated with Shitennoji temple in Osaka. It was established in April 1984. The institution was previously known as Shitennoji International Buddhist Junior and Senior High School (四天王寺国際仏教中学校・高等学校, Shitennōji Kokusai Bukkyō Chūgakkō Kōtōgakkō); it took its current name in April 1990. The school closed in 2019.

Sayama pond (狭山池, Sayama-ike) is an artificial reservoir located in the city of Ōsakasayama, Osaka Prefecture in the Kansai region of Japan. Constructed around the 6th century, it claims to be the oldest in Japan, based on chronological survey of potteries near the lake confirmed that the pond was completed in 7th century. The pond was designated a National Historic Site in 1946, and is listed as World Heritage Irrigation Structure by International Commission of Irrigation and Drainage.
