Church of St James, Curry Mallet

The Church of St James in Beercrocombe, Somerset, England, dates from the 13th century but the current building is predominantly from the 15th. It was restored in the late 19th century. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building.The interior includes a 17th-century fireplace, and pews from the late 13th or early 14th century.The bells in the two-stage tower were restored in 1999, after 80 years of silence, and the peal restored to its original five bells.It is a church within the Seven Sowers benefice which includes Curry Mallet, Hatch Beauchamp, Orchard Portman, Staple Fitzpaine, Stoke St Mary (with Thurlbear) and West Hatch. It is within the archdeanery of Taunton.

Fivehead Arable Fields (grid reference ST337224) is a 10.3 hectare (25.4 acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest near the village of Fivehead in Somerset, notified in 1990. This site has one of the most important assemblages of arable weeds in Britain, several of which are now nationally rare or scarce. There is a large population of the nationally rare Broad-fruited Cornsalad (Valerianella rimosa).

Royal Naval Air Station Merryfield, commonly known as RNAS Merryfield (ICAO: EGDI) is an air station of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm located 2.7 miles (4 kilometres) north-west of Ilminster, and 8.1 miles (13 kilometres) south-east of Taunton, in the English county of Somerset, in England.

Royal Air Force Merryfield or more simply RAF Merryfield (also known as Isle Abbotts) is a former Royal Air Force station in the village of Ilton near Ilminster in southwest Somerset, England. The airfield is located approximately 7 miles (11 km) north of Chard, about 130 miles (210 km) southwest of London. It is now RNAS Merryfield and serves as a satellite to the larger RNAS Yeovilton; it is used mainly as a training facility for helicopter pilots.

Fivehead Woods and Meadow (grid reference ST331231) is a 62.4 hectare (154.2 acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest near the village of Fivehead in Somerset, notified in 1989. This woodland complex is situated on a ridge of land overlooking West Sedgemoor. The site includes a large breeding colony of grey herons (Ardea cinerea) in one of the woods and breeding pairs of nightingales (Luscinia megarhynchos) as well. Buzzards (Buteo buteo), and sparrowhawks (Accipiter nisus) also breed. The common dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius), a rare species, is found in at least one of the woods. Swell Wood, which is part of the site, is a Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) Reserve.

Isle Abbots (also spelled Isle Abbotts) is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, around 7 miles (11.3 km) south-east of Taunton in the South Somerset district. The village had a population of 205 at the 2011 census.

The Church of St Mary the Virgin in Isle Abbotts, Somerset, England dates from the 13th century with several restorations since. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building.It has a tower of four stages. The embattled parapet is pierced by quatrefoils, the merlons pierced with lancet openings. The very large corner pinnacles have attached secondary pinnacles, and intermediate pinnacles to each side. The crocketted niches to each face of tower have surviving medieval figures, to west the risen Christ stepping from His sarcophagus, the Blessed Virgin with Bambino, St Peter and St Paul; to south St George, St Catherine, St Margaret; to east St John Baptist, St Clement; to north St Michael. The wealth of architectural detail and sculpture has required specific approaches to the methodology of repair and protection using lime-based materials. On the stonework are hunky punks which have been severely damaged by the weather, however one appears to be a person playing bagpipes.

The 1945 Broadway Consolidated Liberator crash occurred on 22 November 1945 when a Royal Air Force Consolidated Liberator C Mk VIII transport crashed shortly after take-off from RAF Merryfield with the loss of all 27 on board.The Liberator (serial number KH126) was being operated by 53 Squadron on a trooping flight from RAF Merryfield to India. It failed to gain enough height to clear a hill. It struck a tree and crashed at White's Farm near Broadway Pound, six miles from the airfield. It burst into flames with the loss of the five-man crew (all but one were Polish) and 22 Army passengers.

Merryfield (alias Merrifield, Murefeld, Merefeld, Muryfield, Merifield, Wadham's Castle, etc.) is a historic estate in the parish of Ilton, near Ilminster in Somerset, England. It was the principal seat of the Wadham family, and was called by Prince (d. 1723) their "noble moated seat of Meryfeild" (sic). The mansion house was demolished in 1618 by Sir John Wyndham (1558–1645), of Orchard Wyndham, a nephew and co-heir of Nicholas II Wadham (1531–1609), co-founder of Wadham College, Oxford, the last in the senior male line of the Wadham family. It bears no relation to the present large 19th-century grade II listed mansion known as Merryfield House, formerly the vicarage, immediately south of St Peter's Church, Ilton.

The Anglican Church of St Martin in Fivehead, Somerset, England dates from the 13th century and has been designated as a Grade I listed building.The church built of Hamstone includes a three-bay nave, chancel, south aisle and porch, and a west tower.The three-stage tower dates from around 1505. It is supported by diagonal buttresses and embellished with corner pinnacles and gargoyles. There are six bells the oldest of which was cast around 1500.Within the church is a palimpsest depicting Jane Seymour. There was a gallery at the back of the nave, however this was removed along with the box pews during Victorian restoration. The Norman font has a cylindrical stem and bowl, which has an intricately decorated rim.Outside the church next to the village green is the War MemorialThe parish is within the benefice of Curry Rivel with Fivehead and Swell which is part of the Diocese of Bath and Wells.
