Battle of Blavet

Port-Louis (French pronunciation: [pɔʁ lwi] ; Breton: Porzh-Loeiz) is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in northwestern France.

The Blavet (French pronunciation: [blavɛ]; Breton: Blavezh) river flows from central Brittany and enters the Atlantic Ocean on the south coast near Lorient. It is 148.9 km (92.5 mi) long. The river is canalised for most of its length, forming one of the links in the Brittany canal system. It connects with the Canal de Nantes à Brest at Pontivy and runs to Hennebont, a distance of 60 km. From the last lock at Polvern, the river is tidal and considered as a maritime waterway, giving access to the seaport of Lorient and the Atlantic Ocean. It became more important when the western half of that system was cut off by the construction of the Guerlédan dam and hydropower plant. Today, boats coming from Nantes via Redon have to take the Canal du Blavet in order to reach the ocean near Lorient. The source of the Blavet is east of Bulat-Pestivien, Côtes-d'Armor. It flows through the following départements and towns: Côtes-d'Armor: Saint-Nicolas-du-Pélem, Gouarec Morbihan: Pontivy, Hennebont, Lorient Among its tributaries are the Ével and the Scorff.

Gâvres (French pronunciation: ​[ɡavʁ]; Breton: Gavr) is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in north-western France. French Navy Minister Hyde de Neuville chose this place as a military testing area in 1829 for heavy marine ordnance. The extensive experiments performed at sea have later provided part of the data upon which Hugoniot's theory is based.

Locmiquélic (French pronunciation: [lɔkmikelik]; Breton: Lokmikaelig) is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in north-western France.

SMS Regensburg was a light cruiser of the Graudenz class built by the German Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial Navy). She had one sister ship, SMS Graudenz. The ship was built by the AG Weser shipyard in Bremen, laid down in 1912, launched in April 1914, and commissioned into active service in January 1915. She was named for the German town of Regensburg. The ship was armed with a main battery of twelve 10.5 cm SK L/45 guns and had a top speed of 27.5 knots (50.9 km/h; 31.6 mph), though in 1917 she was rearmed with seven 15 cm SK L/45 guns. Regensburg served in the reconnaissance forces of the High Seas Fleet during World War I. She saw significant action at the Battle of Jutland on 31 May – 1 June 1916, where she served as the leader of the torpedo boat flotillas that screened for the I Scouting Group battlecruisers. After the end of the war, she was ceded to France in 1920 and renamed Strasbourg. In 1928 she took part in the Arctic rescue operations searching for the Airship Italia. Removed from service in 1936, she was used as a barracks ship in Lorient until 1944, when she was seized by the Germans and scuttled in the harbor to protect the U-boat pens there.

Lorient Submarine Base was a submarine naval base located in Lorient, France. It was built in 1941 by the German Kriegsmarine, and was continued to be enlarged until 1943. After the German defeat it was used by the French Navy. It was decommissioned in 1995 and converted to civilian use.

The Port of Kergroise is a commercial port located in the district of Kergroise, Lorient, on the south coast of Brittany, France. It is owned by the Region of Brittany since 2007 and managed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Morbihan. Based on the annual tonnage processed, it is ranked as the 14th most important commercial port in France.

Larmor-Plage (French pronunciation: ​[laʁmɔʁ plaʒ]; Breton: An Arvor) is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in north-western France.

The Scorff (French pronunciation: [skɔʁf]; Breton: Skorf) River flows from central Brittany and enters the Atlantic Ocean on the south coast in Lorient. The Scorff rises north of Langoëlan, in the Morbihan department, and flows through the towns of Guémené-sur-Scorff and Pont-Scorff. From there its bed enlarges to form a ria, submitted to the tides. It joins the Blavet in Lorient, where it enters the Ocean in the roadstead of Lorient. It is 78.6 km (48.8 mi) long and its basin area is 483 km2 (186 sq mi).

The Hôtel Gabriel is a group of 18th-century buildings located in the Peristyle in Lorient, France. Designed by Jacques Gabriel, it was commissioned by the Compagnie Perpetuelle des Indes to build an auction house for its merchandise. The two pavilions are built symmetrically and in a classical style. They are located on either side of a main courtyard, surrounded to the south by a two-hectare French garden, and to the north by a parade ground. Destroyed by Allied air action during World War II, it was rebuilt identically between 1956 and 1959. Reclaimed by the Royal Navy in 1770 after the dissolution of the Compagnie perpétuelle des Indes, it was used by its staff for almost two centuries. In 2008, the municipality of Lorient bought the buildings and installed its archives and architecture and heritage services.
