Zürich Affoltern railway station

Affoltern is a quarter in the district 11 in Zürich, located in the Glatt Valley (German: Glattal).

District 11 is the most northern and the most populous district in the Swiss city of Zürich. The district comprises the quarters Affoltern, Oerlikon and Seebach. All three were formerly municipalities in their own right, but were incorporated into Zürich in 1934.

District 10 is a district in the Swiss city of Zurich. The district comprises the quarters Wipkingen and Höngg. Both entities were formerly municipalities of their own but were incorporated into Zurich in 1893 and 1934, respectively.

Seebad Katzensee (Strandbad is commonly used, while Seebad is the "official" name) is a public bath in the Swiss municipalities of Zürich-Affoltern and Regensdorf.

Katzensee is a lake on the border of the city of Zürich and Regensdorf in the Canton of Zürich, Switzerland. Its surface area is 36 ha (89 acres). There is also a public bath/lido Strandbad Katzensee on its southern shore.

Käferberg (el. 571 metres or 1,873 feet) and Waidberg (el. 601 metres or 1,972 feet) are the summits of a wooded mountain respectively chain of hills overlooking the inner city of Zürich, Zürichsee, Albis chain and Uetliberg, as well as the Limmat Valley and the Zürcher Unterland in Switzerland.

The Alte Kirche Höngg (old church of Höngg) is a Reformed church in the district 10 of Zürich. Its congregation forms part of the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zürich. Based on archeological research, the basement of the church relates to the 8/9th century. Therefore, the vineyard on which this church is on top of is a point for people to pray and meet since over 1200 years. Over the last few centuries, the church has been extended in size and structure before getting the shape it has today. However, at the beginning of the Reformation in 1523 a few local inhabitants removed all the statues and pictures from within the church. It was further in 1863 where the tower roof together with the clock face was renewed.

Höngg is a quarter in district 10 in Zürich. It was formerly a municipality of its own, having been incorporated into Zürich in 1934. The quarter has a population of 21,186, distributed across an area of 6.98 km². Höngg is renowned for its funfairs, such as the Wümmetfest and the Räbeliechtli Umzug. The Protestant church Alte Kirche Höngg is the main church of Höngg.

The Gubrist Tunnel is a motorway tunnel in Switzerland. The tunnel lies to the north-west of the city of Zürich, and forms part of the A1 motorway, on its northern ring section around Zürich. The tunnel was completed in 1985, and is 3,273 metres (10,738 ft) in length.The tunnel is named after the hill of Gubrist, which is nearby. In 1990 63,000 cars/day used this tunnel; in 2014 the number had risen to 106,000, but by 2025 this number is expected to rise to 125,000.On 12 September 2007 the Swiss government voted for the widening of the tunnel. A third parallel tube will raise the number of the lanes from 4 to 7 (2 + 2 in direction St Gallen and 3 towards Bern). 890 Million Swiss francs will be committed for the construction of the 3.2 km long tunnel.This is part of the 'A1 Nordumfahrung' renovation plan covering the western entrance, the Gubrist tunnel itself, and a further 10 km of motorway west of the tunnel. The project will expand the motorway approaching the tunnel from its original 4 lanes (2 in each direction) to 6 lanes (3 in each direction). The major junctions immediately east (the Weiningen junction) and west (the Affoltern junction) of the tunnel will also be modernised. The project will cost in total 1.55 billion Swiss francs. Work started in 2014 and is scheduled to take 9 years.In 2012, the Gubrist Tunnel was rated as 'sufficient' (German: ausreichend) in a test of tunnel safety undertaken by the Touring Club Suisse and was the second worst tunnel in the test.

The Louis-Häfliger-Park in Oerlikon, Zurich, covers 5,000 m2 (53,820 sq ft) and is embedded between the Regina-Kägi-Hof co-operative settlement, the existing production buildings for Oerlikon-Contraves AG, and new service buildings. It is a neighbourhood park allowing people who live or work here to relax and meet. The park is named after Louis Häfliger (1904–1993), "Saviour of Mauthausen". He saved the lives of about 40,000 inmates of the Mauthausen concentration camp.

The Gustav-Ammann-Park is a public park in Oerlikon, Zurich, is built on the former area of the Bürhle AG and covers 32,291 ft². In 1996, the privately owned park became a preserve. One year later, the formerly nameless facility was handed over to the population as Gustav-Ammann-Park. It was gently renovated in 2004/2005, maintaining all historical garden monuments. The name of the park reminds us of Gustav Ammann (1886–1955), a well-known Swiss landscape architect who worked in the modernist style.

The Hardturm was a football stadium located in Zürich's Kreis 5. Opened in 1929, it was the home of the Grasshopper Club Zürich until it closed in 2007. It was a host stadium for the 1954 FIFA World Cup. The land for the stadium was bought by Walter Schoeller who passed it on his club free of charge. When the stadium was opened in 1929 it could hold 27,500 spectators. After many reconstructions the capacity was 38,000 in 1986, on time for the 100-Year Anniversary of the Grasshopper Club Zürich. Before closing, Hardturm could hold 17,666 spectators with standing areas for the home and away fans. In international games the Hardturm could hold 16,600 spectators with seating places in all areas.During re-construction of the Letzigrund stadium, Grasshoppers shared use of the Hardturm with local rivals FC Zürich for the 2006–07 season. This led to protests by Grasshopper fans. The Hardturm stadium closed in September 2007. Grasshoppers now play at the Letzigrund Stadium. Hardturm's demolition started in December 2008 and a new stadium, Stadion Zürich is planned on the ground of the Hardturm, but the project has been stalled.
