The Moor Music Festival was an annual music festival held initially on a farm in Addingham Moorside, near the town of Ilkley, West Yorkshire. For the 2009 and 2010 festivals, the setting was moved to Heslaker Farm near to Skipton in North Yorkshire.The festival had artists playing from the local area and beyond, many being prominent artists in the New Yorkshire music scene. In 2006, bands appearing included The Lodger, Monkey Swallows the Universe, Black Wire, Middleman and iLIKETRAiNS. 2007 saw new additions such as the electronic music tent The Twisted Ballroom hosted by Leeds collective Gonzo and a dub, jungle and dubstep tent called The Trench run by Leeds soundsystem High Pressure. The event was free from corporate sponsorship and promoted green action and other environmental causes, with stalls at the event on trade justice, climate change, third world development and other social issues.The 2011 event was relabeled as the Beacons Festival, but was cancelled due to adverse weather on the first day of the event. Thereafter, the event moved away from Skipton and was held on various days across the North of England.

Sharp Haw is a hill on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, located just within the National Park. Being the last outpost of the hills before the broad Aire valley, and with a sharp summit from many angles, it is prominent and easily recognisable from much of the area to the south. The hill has an elevation of 357 metres (1,171 ft).From the summit there are views over the Aire valley, to Gargrave, Skipton and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, to the east into Wharfedale and to the north into Malhamdale. Although Ordnance Survey maps do not show a path to the summit, there is a path from the public bridleway, but this runs alongside the peak, not to the summit. It's popular with cyclists. The pastures up Sharp Haw are home to sheep and beef cows, as well as ground nesting birds. The word Haw comes from the Old English hawian, and means view.

Craven College is a further education college based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, England. Craven offers a variety of further and higher education courses, including bachelor degrees. Craven College started life in the early 1800s as the Skipton Mechanics Institute on the High Street, Skipton, England. During the Second World War the Skipton Art School and the Skipton Technical Institute were established along with two Evening Institutes and in 1954 the Skipton Art School and Technical Institution became the Craven Institute for further education. In 1974 the college was renamed The Craven College of Adult Education and full time courses flourished mainly in courses leading to secretarial work, hotel and catering, social work and management of small institutions. The Aireville Campus was developed in 1989 adjoining The Skipton Academy (Aireville School). In 1994, the Old Fire Station was opened as the Hair and Beauty Annexe followed by the Auction Mart Campus to accommodate all land-based courses and The Aviation Academy at Leeds Bradford Airport. Tyro Training was established in 2003 on the High Street, Skipton as the business arm of Craven College. In response to demand new premises were secured in Scarborough. Tyro Training, Skipton moved to new premises at the Auction Mart, Skipton in October 2018. The Animal Management Centre was open for students in 2018 with specialist rooms for aquatics, invertebrates, nocturnals, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals. Ripon Evolve is the latest addition to the Craven College group.

The Skipton Academy (formerly Aireville School) is a small rural 11–16 coeducational secondary school located in Skipton, North Yorkshire, England.Previously a community school administered by North Yorkshire County Council, Aireville School converted to academy status in September 2014 and was renamed The Skipton Academy.

Trappes Hall is a historic building in Carleton-in-Craven, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The house was built in about 1686 by Christopher Trappes, when he married into a local family. It passed down the generations until one owner was involved in the Jacobite rebellions, forfeiting the property to the Crown. Its later history is unknown, but it was divided into two cottages, probably in the 19th century. It was Grade II* listed in 1954. The house is built of stone, with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and a large attic, and a nearly square plan. It contains two large mullioned and transomed windows, and smaller mullioned windows, and in the attics are large gabled dormers. It appears that there was originally a central doorway on the north side, but this was blocked when the house was divided, and there are now three 19th century doors, one to the north and two to the south. There is a large, central chimney, with fireplaces in both the former main room and parlour.

Carleton Mill is a historic building in Carleton-in-Craven, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. William and John Slingsby leased a mill in Bell Busk in 1841. It proved successful, and in 1849 they were able to construct a small mill in Carleton. In 1861, they built a larger mill in the village, to work cotton. Ownership passed to their sons, Cecil and John Arthur, but the two had a poor working relationship, and in 1930 the business failed. The mill was purchased by the Fattorini family, which used it to run a mail order business. In 1941, it was purchased by the Rover Company, which used it to manufacture aircraft components. The Aspinall family took it over in 1947, to manufacture carpets, then in 1980 Gaskell PLC took it over, continuing to make carpets. It closed in 1999, and in 2003 was converted into 57 flats and houses by Novo Homes and Peter Harrison Architects. It has been Grade II listed since 1988. The mill is built of stone with lintel bands, a dentilled cornice, a slate roof, and three storeys. The doorway is round-headed with a rusticated surround, and the windows have plain surrounds. At the east end is a tower with two cornices, pilaster strips and a parapet. The top storey contains elliptical-headed windows in architraves, and above is a truncated pyramidal roof with railings. At the west end is a tall octagonal chimney. In the centre of the mill is an open air atrium, with a water feature and glass-fronted lift.

St Mary's Church is the parish church of Carleton-in-Craven, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. There was a church in the village in the medieval period. It was rebuilt in the 16th century, the new building having a square tower, and capable of seating 250 worshippers. It was repaired in 1841, and a gallery was added. However, in 1859, it was demolished, and a new church was built, to a design by F. H. Pownall. It was Grade II listed in 1988. The Gothic revival church is built of stone, with a stone slate roof. It consists of a nave with a clerestory, north and south aisles, a south porch, a lower chancel, and a west tower. The tower has four stages, buttresses, a west doorway with a trefoil head, and a square stair turret, rising to an octagon. The bell openings are paired, and above them is a parapet and a small pyramidal roof. The interior is largely original. The east window, by Clayton and Bell, depicts a tree of Jesse. The font is Norman.

Carleton-in-Craven is a small village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England, and situated just over 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south-west from the market town of Skipton. The village had a population of 1,118 at the 2011 Census, and contains a primary school, church, post office, newsagents & village store, public house, a social club, and a pharmacy. Geographically, the village of Carleton-in-Craven is the most northern village in the South Pennines. The spelling of the village name, with an 'e', can be seen in a record, dated 1440, mentioning Robert Mosele, a husbandman of the village, who was accused by Robert Blakey of carrying away some of the latter's goods.

Skipton Girls' High School, founded in 1886 by the Petyt Trust, is an all-girls selective grammar school situated in Skipton, North Yorkshire, England. The school is a founding member of Northern Star Academies Trust, and leads Northern Lights Teaching School Alliance and Northern Lights SCITT. The school has over 800 students.

Broughton is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is on the A59 road approximately 3 miles (5 km) west of Skipton. The 2001 Census recorded a parish population of 81 increasing to 172 at the 2011 Census.

Fresh Radio was an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to the Yorkshire Dales in northern England on two medium wave (AM) frequencies and three FM frequencies. It was also heard online via the Fresh Radio website.
