Meeks Creek is a western tributary of Lake Tahoe which has its source on Rubicon Lake, 1.2 miles (1.9 km) northeast of Phipps Peak in Desolation Wilderness, trends northwest through Stony Ridge Lake, Shadow Lake, Crag Lake, and Lake Genevieve 3.5 miles (5.6 km), continues northeast 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to Meeks Bay on Lake Tahoe. At its mouth is the tiny town of Meeks Bay, California, in El Dorado County, California, United States.

Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park is a state park in California in the United States. It occupies nearly two miles of the western shore of Lake Tahoe and a total of about 1,000 hectares (2,500 acres) of forested mountains in El Dorado County. Originally called Sugar Pine Point State Park, its name was changed in 2003 to honor Edwin L. Z'berg, a California state assemblyman who specialized in environmental legislation and worked to develop state parks and other natural areas.

The Sugar Pine Point Light was a small lighthouse located on Lake Tahoe, in El Dorado County, California, in the United States. The tower no longer stands, but a small post light marks the site. It is located within the bounds of Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park.

Tahoma (formerly Chambers Lodge) is a census-designated place in Placer and El Dorado counties, California, United States. Tahoma is located along Lake Tahoe 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of Homewood. Tahoma has a population of 1,191 (780 in El Dorado County and 411 in Placer County). Tahoma has a post office with ZIP code 96142, which opened in 1946.

Chambers Lodge (also, McKinney) was a historical lodge and post office in Placer County, California. Chambers Lodge was located on Lake Tahoe, 1.25 miles (2.0 km) southeast of Homewood, at an elevation of 6237 feet (1901 m). It was one of the oldest recreational lodges on Lake Tahoe, first established in 1854. After a succession of ownership changes, the lodge was ultimately demolished in 1970, and the site is now occupied by vacation homes. The McKinney post office opened in 1884, changed the name to Chambers Lodge in 1928, and closed for good in 1959. The name McKinney honored John McKinney who settled there in 1864. The name Chambers Lodge honored David H. Chambers who built a lodge at the site in 1928.

D. L. Bliss State Park is a state park of California in the United States. It is located on the western shore of Lake Tahoe just north of Emerald Bay State Park. Notable features include Rubicon Point Light, the highest-elevation lighthouse in the United States. A popular trail in the lakeside forest features a large balancing rock. The park is named in honor of timber and railroad magnate Duane Leroy Bliss, whose heirs donated 744 acres (301 ha) of land to the state in 1929. It has since grown to 2,149 acres (870 ha).

Homewood is an unincorporated community of about 200 residents, in Placer County, California, located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. It is located 5.5 miles (8.9 km) south of Tahoe City and north of Chambers Landing and Tahoma. It is the location of Homewood Mountain Resort.

Jakes Peak is a 9,187-foot-elevation (2,800-meter) mountain summit located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in El Dorado County, California, United States. It is set within the Desolation Wilderness, on land managed by Eldorado National Forest. This iconic peak is situated above the southwest shore of Lake Tahoe, and approximately seven miles (11 km) northwest of the community of South Lake Tahoe. Topographic relief is significant as the east aspect rises 2,950 feet (900 meters) above the lake in 1.5 miles (2.4 km).

Homewood Mountain Resort is a ski area located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe in the state of California, a few miles south of Tahoe City in the town of Homewood. It has 1,260 acres (510 ha) of skiable terrain and eight lifts. While it currently does not offer lodging on site, a Draft Environmental Impact Statement has been submitted to the regional planning commission to allow for the development of a resort inclusive of a hotel, condominiums, and various other additions. Since 2006, JMA Ventures, a San Francisco Bay Area developer, has owned and operated the ski area.

Idlewild is an unincorporated community in Placer County, California. Idlewild is located on Lake Tahoe, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of Homewood. It lies at an elevation of 6234 feet (1900 m).Idlewild was the name of a summer lodge built at the location in 1905 by Fred Cole of San Francisco. Cole also acquired a large cruiser ship, also named the Idlewild, which sailed on Lake Tahoe for many years. The ship was hauled ashore in 1942, and then destroyed in December of that year when it was crushed by a tree blown over in a storm.

Lost Corner Mountain is a mountain summit in the Sierra Nevada mountain range to the west of Lake Tahoe on the border of the Desolation Wilderness in El Dorado County, California. The city closest to it is Meyers, California which is 4.4 miles away. The Pacific Crest Trail skirts the mountain on its west flank.
