Saarland University (German: Universität des Saarlandes, pronounced [univɛʁziˈtɛːt dɛs ˈzaːɐ̯landəs]) is a public research university located in Saarbrücken, the capital of the German state of Saarland. It was founded in 1948 in Homburg in co-operation with France and is organized in six faculties that cover all major fields of science. In 2007, the university was recognized as an excellence center for computer science in Germany. Thanks to bilingual German and French staff, the university has an international profile, which has been underlined by its proclamation as "European University" in 1950 and by establishment of Europa-Institut as its "crown and symbol" in 1951. Nine academics have been honored with the highest German research prize, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, while working at Saarland University.

The Europa-Institut was founded at Saarland University in 1951, before the signing of the Treaties of Rome, and is the second oldest institution focused on European Integration (after the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium). More than 5,000 students from all over the world have since graduated from the Institute. Having built on the content of its study program continuously and adapted to developments on the European level over time, the Europa-Institut today focuses on European law and international law with the possibility of specialization in specific study units.

The Max Planck Institute for Informatics (German: Max-Planck-Institut für Informatik, abbreviated MPI-INF or MPII) is a research institute in computer science with a focus on algorithms and their applications in a broad sense. It hosts fundamental research (algorithms and complexity, programming logics) as well a research for various application domains (computer graphics, geometric computation, constraint solving, computational biology). It is part of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Germany's largest publicly funded body for foundation research.

Eschberg is a part of Saarbrücken, the capital of Saarland and has a population of 7,000 residents.

Scheidt is a borough (Stadtteil) of the city of Saarbrücken, in the southwest of Germany. Population (2020): 4,087.

Dudweiler is a borough of Saarbrücken, on the Sulzbach creek. In 977, Dudweiler was first mentioned in official documents of German Emperor Otto II as the location of a chapel (Duodonisvillare). Dudweiler received town privileges on 12 September 1962. In 1974 it was incorporated into the city of Saarbrücken. Since then, Dudweiler has also been the name of one of the four city districts (Stadtbezirke) of Saarbrücken. The district of Dudweiler comprises four city boroughs (Stadtteile): Dudweiler, Herrensohr, Jägersfreude (both were boroughs of Dudweiler before 1974), and Scheidt (a municipality in the amt of Brebach before 1974). The coal mining industry played an important role for the growth of Dudweiler until 1968 when the last mine was closed. Today Dudweiler is characterised by its proximity to the Saarland University campus.

The Saarbrücken Zoo (German: Zoologischer Garten der Landeshauptstadt Saarbrücken) is with over 200.000 visitors annually, and over 1.700 animals from 160 Species the largest Zoo in Saarland. The Zoo is specialized in African animals.

Saarbrücken Ost station is a station in Saarbrücken, the capital of the German state of Saarland, which is served by Regional-Express and Regionalbahn services.

Saarländischer Rundfunk (pronounced [ˈzaːɐ̯ˌlɛndɪʃɐ ˈʁʊntfʊŋk]; "Saarland Broadcasting"), shortened to SR (pronounced [ɛsˈʔɛʁ]), is a public radio and television broadcaster serving the German state of Saarland. With headquarters in the Halberg Broadcasting House in Saarbrücken, SR is a member of the ARD consortium of German public-broadcasting organizations.

Halberg Castle (German: Schloss Halberg) is a German castle built between 1877 and 1880 on Halberg mountain near Saarbrücken. The castle is located in the area of the former municipality of Brebach, which was merged with Fechingen to form Brebach-Fechingen in 1959 and incorporated into Saarbrücken in 1974. The castle complex, which was designed by the architects Edwin Oppler and Ferdinand Schorbach for Carl Ferdinand von Stumm-Halberg, is the second largest neo-Gothic secular building in Saarland after the St. Johann Town Hall despite renovations and partial demolition after World War II.

DFG LFA Saarbrücken (French: Lycée Franco-Allemand de Sarrebruck, German: Deutsch-Französisches Gymnasium Saarbrücken is a French-German international gymnasium/collège and lycée (grades 5 to 12) in Saarbrücken, Germany. It is jointly administered by the French education agency AEFE and the local Regionalverband Saarbrücken district.The school is one of the DFG / LFA established in the 1963 Élysée Treaty between France and West Germany; the school was established in 1961 (1961) as a cooperation between a French and a German school and later became one school.The school's operation is detailed in the Schwerin Agreement signed by France and Germany in 2002. For instance, the students enter the school into a French or a German branch. They are integrated for the last three years before graduation, during which they are co-taught in both French and German. Students receive marks on a scale from 1 to 10, which differs both from the German and French school marks system.

The Brennender Berg (Burning Mountain) is a natural monument located in a deep and narrow gorge between Dudweiler and Sulzbach in Saarland, Germany. It is a smouldering coal-seam fire that ignited in 1668 and continues to burn today.
