Northenden railway station in Sharston, Manchester, England, was built by the Stockport, Timperley and Altrincham Junction Railway (ST&AJ) and opened for passenger and goods traffic on 1 February 1866.On 15 August 1867 the ST&AJ became part of the Cheshire Lines Committee, from 1 January 1923 jointly owned by the London and North Eastern Railway and the London, Midland and Scottish Railway.Some railway timetables describe the station as Northenden for Wythenshawe because, lying between the road overbridges at Sharston Road and Longley Lane, it served the two districts.

The Church of St Wilfrid is an Anglican church in the suburb of Northenden in Manchester, England. It stands on Ford Lane, close to the River Mersey, approximately 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of Manchester city centre. The church is late medieval in origin and was substantially re-built in the 19th century by the Gothic Revival architect J. S. Crowther. The church was designated a Grade II* listed building on 25 February 1952.

Northenden is a suburb of Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, with a population of 14,771 at the 2011 census. It lies on the south side of the River Mersey, 4.2 miles (6.8 km) west of Stockport and 5.2 miles (8.4 km) south of Manchester city centre, bounded by Didsbury to the north, Gatley to the east, Sale to the west and Wythenshawe to the south. Historically a rural township and parish within the hundred of Bucklow in Cheshire, despite unplanned urbanisation and population growth in its neighbours in the 19th century, Northenden remained a comparatively rural and unpopulated area which spanned the hamlets of Lawton Moor, Northern Moor, Rose Hill and a part of what is now Wythenshawe. By 1866 Northenden had coalesced and became a civil parish. The industrialisation of neighbouring Manchester resulted in overpopulation in the early 20th century. Manchester City Council used the Local Government Act 1929 to extend its boundaries to encompass Northenden in 1931 and throughout the mid-20th century it was redeveloped as an overspill estate.

Rose Hill in Longley Lane, Northenden, Manchester, England, is a 19th-century Victorian villa. It is most notable as the home of Sir Edward Watkin, "railway king and cross-channel visionary", and in the late 20th century it was in use as a children’s home.The house was designated a Grade II* listed building on 11 April 1991.

Menorah Synagogue, a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism, is a synagogue in Manchester in the United Kingdom and the place of worship for the Cheshire Reform Congregation. The synagogue is on Altrincham Road in Sharston, Wythenshawe. Its rabbi is Rabbi Fabian Sborovsky. He took up his post on 1 February 2015 in succession to Rabbi Haim Shalom.

Sharston Hall was a manor house built in Sharston, an area of Wythenshawe, Manchester, England, in 1701. A three-storey building with Victorian additions, it was purchased by Thomas Worthington, an early umbrella tycoon, and occupied by the Worthington family until 1856, when the last male heir died. The hall was occupied by the Henriques family in the 1920s, but following their death in a motor accident in 1932 the house was converted into flats. Manchester Corporation purchased the hall in 1926. During the Second World War it was leased by the local watch committee for use by the police, civil defence and fire services.From 1941 until 1957 Sharston Hall's coach house served as Wythenshawe's fire station. In 1948 the Sharston Community Association, founded that same year, was allocated part of the hall for use as a community centre. Two years later the association took over the entire house, expanding in 1957 to also occupy the coach house then recently vacated by the fire service.By the late 1960s the hall was in a poor state of repair and was boarded up. Sharston Hall was demolished in 1986, replaced by offices in a sympathetic 18th-century style – or what Pevsner's architectural guide calls a parody of it – and houses.

Historically part of the county of Cheshire, in 1931, Wythenshawe was transferred to the City of Manchester, which had begun building a large new housing estate there in the 1920s. With an area of approximately 11 square miles (28 km2), Wythenshawe became the largest council estate in Europe. Despite it not having official town status, the tram stop which serves the main district centre is known as "Wythenshawe Town Centre tram stop".Wythenshawe includes the areas of Baguley, Benchill, Brooklands, Peel Hall, Newall Green, Woodhouse Park, Moss Nook, Northern Moor, Northenden and Sharston.

Manchester Wythenshawe was a parliamentary constituency centred on the Wythenshawe suburb of Manchester. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The constituency was created for the 1950 general election, and abolished for the 1997 general election. It was then replaced by the new Wythenshawe and Sale East constituency which joined it with the eastern half of Sale from the Trafford Metropolitan Borough.
