McKenzie Lake, Calgary

Cranston is a master planned residential community in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Cranston contains a wide range of single family and multi family residential as well as commercial property. It has two public elementary schools and one separate board K-9 school, as well as Century Hall - a private Cranston residents recreation facility. It is bounded by Stoney Trail to the north and Fish Creek Park and the Bow River to the west and south. Its eastern boundary is Deerfoot Trail and the community of Auburn Bay and the mixed use town centre development of Seton and South Health Campus hospital. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 12 councillor.

McKenzie Towne is a master planned residential neighbourhood in the southeast of Calgary, Alberta being developed by Carma Developers LP (now Brookfield Residential Properties Inc.). The community is bordered on the west by Deerfoot Trail, on the south by Stoney Trail, on the east by 52 St. S.E., and to the north by the South Trail regional commercial centre along 130 Ave. S.E. McKenzie Towne boasts many recreational features, including: the McKenzie Towne Hall managed and operated by the staff and Board of Directors of the McKenzie Towne Council (which is the community's Residents' Association). Within the Hall: a gymnasium, meeting and banquet facilities, and a private outdoor park area. The Council offers recreational programming for children, youth, families adults and seniors, as well as facility rentals for events. The Council also runs community events and looks after the landscaping and maintenance of green spaces and amenities. The community also has a network of paved pathways, green spaces and parks; a fountain and splash park; an outdoor hockey rink and skate park and numerous ponds also complement McKenzie Towne. McKenzie Towne also contains one separate school board elementary school and a public elementary school.

Deer Run is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located in a bend of the Bow River, and is surrounded to the east and south by the Fish Creek Provincial Park. It is bounded to the north by North Deersaxon Circle and the community of Deer Ridge and to the west by Bow Bottom Trail. The land was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1961 and Deer Run was established in 1978. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 14 councillor.

The Sikome Aquatic Facility, commonly referred to as Sikome Lake, is a man-made lake in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located in the southeast quadrant of the city, within the Fish Creek Provincial Park, and is part of the Bow River basin. It lies at an elevation of 1,005 m (3,297 ft) and has a surface of 0.4 km2 (40 ha; 99 acres).First opened in late summer 1978, it is a swimming area open during the summer as a public beach. Up to 20,000 swimmers a day visit the lake during summer week-ends. The beach is staffed by Alberta Provincial Parks aquatic staff. Until the mid-to-late 1980s, the lake was used as a skating rink in the Winter months. Now, during the winter the water is drained, and it takes three weeks to fill the lake every spring. A filtration system that chlorinates the water supply was implemented in 1991 at a cost of $1.8 million. For the 2004 season, the lake was closed to public due to construction. It has been closed before, in July 1990 and August 1998, due to excessive contamination from bird droppings and in Summer 2004 due to flooding. A fence was constructed in 2013 to increase public safety and control unwanted behaviour.

Auburn Bay is a suburban residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located at the southeastern edge of the city, and is bounded by Seton Boulevard to the south, Deerfoot Trail to the west, 52 Street E to the east and Stoney Trail to the north. The South Health Campus and southeast Calgary hospital is located immediately to the south of the community. The Green Line of the CTrain will run along the community's eastern boundary, parallel to 52 Street. Auburn Bay has a Residents Association https://auburnbayra.ca/ and a Community Association https://www.auburnbayliving.ca/. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 12 councillor.A diverse community which is home to over 5400 houses. Deer Ridge is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located in the Bow River valley, and is bounded to the north by Canyon Meadows Drive, to the east by Deercliff Road and the Bow River, to the south by Deerfield Circle and the community of Deer Run and to the west by Bow Bottom Trail. Fish Creek Provincial Park is located immediately east. The land was annexed into the City of Calgary in 1961, and Deer Ridge was established in 1978. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 14 councillor.

Calgary-Hays is a provincial electoral district mandated to return one member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada using the first past the post method of voting. The riding was formed in 2004, carved out of the Calgary-Shaw electoral district. The district is named after former Calgary mayor and Canadian Senator Harry Hays who represented the electoral district of Calgary South as a Member of Parliament. In its present boundaries the electoral district covers the deep southeast corner of Calgary and includes the neighbourhoods of McKenzie Lake, McKenzie Towne, Quarry Park, Douglas Glen, and Douglasdale.

Douglasdale is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 114 Avenue S to the north, 130 Avenue S to the south, Deerfoot Trail to the east and the Bow River to the west. The Fish Creek Provincial Park borders the neighbourhood to the west. Douglasglen is located in the northern area, north of Deerfoot Trail. The community was established in 1986. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 12 councillor.

Shepard is a planned and approved CTrain suburban light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada part of the Green Line. Construction will begin in 2022 and complete in 2027 as part of construction stage one, segment one. The station is located at the South Trail Crossing shopping centre and will serve as the southern terminus station for stage one of construction. It is expected to be one of the busiest stations on opening day.This station is surrounded by a commercial and retail area and does not currently have a pedestrian-friendly environment. As part of station construction, the area will be upgraded with improved sidewalks and multi-use pathways that will increase walkability in the area. The improved pathway system will feature a pedestrian connection to Douglasdale/Douglasglen. The Green Line light-rail storage and maintenance facility will be immediately north of the station. Additionally, it will feature a large park and ride, and a one-million square foot office development has been planned adjacent to the station.

New Brighton is a master planned residential neighbourhood developed in the southeast of Calgary, Alberta. Located east of 52nd. Street SE and south of 130th Ave and McIvor Boulevard to the south. The community contains a variety of single family and multi-family homes as well as a private residents association recreation facility called the New Brighton Club. The facility contains a water park, hockey rink, tennis, banquet facilities and studio space with many programmed activities. The community was designed by Carma Developers LP. The community maintains active online forums for residents and for neighbourhood program activities i.e. there is an interactive community website.It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 12 councillor.

South Health Campus (SHC) is a large hospital in Calgary, in Alberta, Canada. It is administered by Alberta Health Services. The building was developed by Alberta Infrastructure, and the first phase was built at a cost of $1.31 billion. The South Health Campus was fully operational by 2016. It has the capacity to handle 800,000 ambulatory visits per year, and it performs approximately 2,500 births every year. It includes a 24-hour emergency department, an intensive care unit (ICU), as well as day surgery units. Services are provided for a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions. The facility currently serves 200,000 outpatients annually.The entire facility (including planned future additions) has been designed for 2,400 full-time-equivalent staff, including 180 physicians, along with 644 inpatient beds and 11 operating rooms.In terms of physical infrastructure, the building exterior colour scheme is designed to reflect the landscape hallmarks of prairie, forest, and clear blue sky. This state-of-the-art concrete-and-steel complex has a floor area of one million square feet. Emergency power is provided by a set of ten diesel generators with total power output of 28 megawatts.

Chaparral is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located at the southern edge of the city, south of the Stoney Trail. To the east it is bordered by the Bow River Valley, to the south by 194 Avenue SE, and to the west by Macleod Trail. It has three sub sections that are not officially recognized, Lake Chaparral, Chaparral Valley, and Chaparral Ridge. Chaparral was established in 1995, and named for the mediterranean climate biome. The centerpiece of the neighbourhood is a 32-acre (130,000 m2) artificial lake and a 21-acre (85,000 m2) park with two waterfalls. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 14 councillor, who is currently Peter Demong.
