The Oakland Speedway was a motor racing track in San Leandro, California, a suburb of Oakland, California. It was a one-mile, banked dirt oval track built in 1931, which operated throughout the Great Depression and postwar years. The track featured AAA National Championship races with Indy cars and drivers from 1931 until 1936, when the AAA pulled out of the West Coast. Thereafter the track still featured racing by members of the Bay Cities Racing Association, in roadsters and motorcycles, as well as Big Cars, stock cars, and midgets. It was known as the "fastest dirt track in the Nation".

Bayfair Center (orig. Bay-Fair, later Bay Fair, Bayfair Mall) is a regional shopping mall and power center in San Leandro, California. It was among the first malls in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. Anchor stores are Macy's, Target, Kohl's, Staples, Old Navy, PetSmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Cinemark, and 24 Hour Fitness.

Ricky's Sports Theatre and Grill was a Las Vegas Raiders themed sports bar located in San Leandro, California.Ricky's opened in 1946 as a steakhouse and became famous for being rated the number two best sports bar in America according to Sports Illustrated and the number twelve best sports bar in America according to CNN.In July 2018, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden held a fan appreciation event at Ricky's that was attended by over 500 fans and featured Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie, Raiders team owner Mark Davis and several Raiders legends.Ricky's owner Ricky Ricardo died in November 2020 at age 75, the restaurant had been closed for months due to COVID-19. A GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign was launched in 2020 to save Ricky's.The original Ricky's was opened by John Ricardo Sr. in 1946 and moved to San Leandro, California in 1960.

San Lorenzo High School, also known as "SLz", is a public high school located in Ashland, California, and is part of the San Lorenzo Unified School District. The school's student body reflects the diversity of its surrounding and nearby communities, namely San Lorenzo, San Leandro, Hayward, and Oakland. As of the 2018-2019 school year, the student demographics are, Hispanic-Latino (62%), followed by Asian (15%), Black (14%), non-Hispanic White (5%), Pacific Islander (2%), American Indian or Alaska Native (less than 1%), and two or more races (2%).

Ashland is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 23,823 at the 2020 census. Ashland is located between the city of San Leandro to the north, the unincorporated community of Cherryland to the south, the unincorporated community of Castro Valley to the east, and the unincorporated community of San Lorenzo to the southwest. Ashland shares a postal zip code with the neighboring unincorporated community of San Lorenzo to the southwest, as well as the close by cities of Hayward to the south and San Leandro to the north. There is no documented evidence that Ashland was ever known as “San Leandro South” but instead has been informally, albeit incorrectly, known as "unincorporated San Leandro" or "unincorporated Hayward" since Ashland does not have its own postal zip code designation.

John George Psychiatric Hospital, previously John George Psychiatric Pavilion, also known as John George Psychiatric Emergency Room, John George Hospital or John George, is a psychiatric hospital located in San Leandro, in Alameda County, California. It is operated by the Alameda Health System. It is located near Fairmont Hospital and the county Juvenile Justice Center. It opened in 1992 and was named after County Supervisor John George to honor his advocacy for mentally ill people. It has an 80-bed capacity. In November 2003, a doctor at the facility, Erlinda Ursua, died there and a patient, a 38-year-old female was charged with murder. The female patient pled not guilty in 2005. No criminal charges were later filed.

San Lorenzo (Spanish for "St. Lawrence") is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 29,581 at the 2020 census. It is an unincorporated community, located at the banks of San Lorenzo Creek. It was originally named Squattersville in 1851, but later renamed to San Lorenzo.In 1944, under contract to the U.S. Navy, The David D. Bohannon Company began construction of San Lorenzo Village, which was one of the nation's first planned communities, with parcels designated for schools, churches, parks, and several retail centers. Bohannon's pioneering pre-cutting techniques, referred to as the "California method," were used in later developments, such as the more famous Levittown, Pennsylvania.

The Meek Mansion is a historic mansion in unincorporated Cherryland, California, just north of Hayward. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located on nearly 10 acres, the Victorian house was built in 1869 by William Meek.

The Ghirardelli Chocolate Company is an American confectioner, wholly owned by Swiss confectioner Lindt & Sprüngli. The company was founded by and is named after Italian chocolatier Domenico Ghirardelli, who, after working in South America, moved to California. The Ghirardelli Chocolate Company was incorporated in 1852, and is the third-oldest chocolate company in the US, after Baker's Chocolate and Whitman's.

The 1868 Hayward earthquake occurred in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, United States on October 21. With an estimated moment magnitude of 6.3–6.7 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of IX (Violent), it was the most recent large earthquake to occur on the Hayward Fault Zone. It caused significant damage and a number of deaths throughout the region, and was known as the "Great San Francisco earthquake" prior to the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire.
