Jacksonville Historic District (Jacksonville, Oregon)

Jacksonville is a city in Jackson County, Oregon, United States, approximately 5 miles (8 km) west of Medford. It was named for Jackson Creek, which flows through the community and was the site of one of the first placer gold claims in the area. It includes Jacksonville Historic District, which was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1966. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 2,785, up from 2,235 at the 2000 census.

The Jackson County Courthouse is a former county courthouse in Jacksonville, Oregon, United States, built in 1883. The courthouse is a contributing property of the Jacksonville Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). It was formerly the Jacksonville Museum owned by Jackson County and operated by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS), which also managed several other historic properties in Jacksonville. The museum in the courthouse closed in 2006 because of lack of funding. Ownership of the historic courthouse was transferred to the City of Jacksonville in 2012. The SOHS still operates Hanley Farm in Central Point and a research library in Medford. The current Jackson County Courthouse, also listed on the NRHP, is in Medford, where the county seat was moved in 1926.

The Beekman Native Plant Arboretum is a three-acre (12,000 m²) arboretum in Jackson County, Oregon, United States, that features trees, shrubs and herbs from eight zones of the Siskiyou and Cascade mountains in Southern Oregon. It is located behind the historic Beekman House at 352 East California Street in Jacksonville and is named for Jacksonville pioneer Cornelius C. Beekman.The Arboretum contains more than 175 species from the high deserts of Eastern Oregon, high-altitude subalpine slopes around Crater Lake, and serpentine soils of the Siskiyou Mountains. It features species from the chaparral, low-elevation forest and riparian zones, including grassland plants, lodgepole pine and sagebrush, buckwheat, penstemon and balsam root, and a bog with skunk cabbage and wild ginger. Most plants are labeled with name and habitat. Two footbridges cross a seasonal stream. The arboretum was designed by Alan Horobin, in collaboration with the Jacksonville Woodlands Association, organized in 1989 to preserve the woodlands behind the Beekman House.In March, 2000, John and Joyce Jackson, of Kingwood, Texas, concluded their nationwide project to plant trees in each state at a location containing the name of Jackson by planting five trees at the arboretum. The occasion of planting in their 50th state was marked with a ceremony hosted by the chamber of commerce and attended by many in the community.

The Cornelius C. Beekman House is a historic structure in Jacksonville, Oregon, United States. The house was constructed between 1870 and 1876, and the Oregon Historic Preservation Office, part of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, places the year closer to 1873. Part of "millionaires' row" in the Jacksonville Historic District, the house was built by banker Cornelius C. Beekman as a residence for his wife and children, and the Beekman family were the only recorded occupants.The house is a museum owned by the City of Jacksonville, Oregon, and offers meeting and event facilities.

Claire Hanley Arboretum is an arboretum located on the grounds at the Oregon State University Extension and Research campus, 569 Hanley Road, Medford, Oregon. The arboretum was first planted in the 1960s by the Hanley sisters, with additional plantings since 1995. Mature trees include the dogwood Cornus mas, Davidia involucrata, and Oxydendrum arboreum. The arboretum land was once part of the Michael Hanley Farmstead. Michael Hanley purchased the original donation land claim from David Clinton and Archibald Welton.Upon his death, the farm was divided with Alice Hanley receiving the portion with the home and buildings. On her death the property was left to her niece Claire Hanley, and her sisters Martha and Mary Hanley; daughters of Alice's older brother John A Hanley.

Rogue Valley Adventist Academy is a private Adventist kindergarten through 12th grade school in Medford, Oregon, United States. Rogue Valley Adventist Academy opened in 1908 as a one-room school house. Since then it has undergone a number of renovations as well as name changes. Rogue Valley enrolls about 132 students. The Rogue Valley Red Tail Hawks compete in the OSAA Mountain Valley League 1A-5. The school's colors are maroon and white.

The Medford Oregon Temple is the 79th operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.The Medford Oregon Temple is located midway between the Oakland California and Portland Oregon temples. As of 2010 it served nine stakes in northern California and Oregon.

Central Point is a city in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. The population was 17,169 as of 2010. The city shares its southern border with Medford and is a part of the Medford metropolitan area. Central Point is home of the Jackson County Fair that occurs in July.

Rogue Creamery is an American cheese maker based in Central Point, Oregon founded in 1933. Since 2002, Rogue Creamery has been making award winning artisan cheeses. Founder Tom Vella brought mold, cultures and recipes for Oregon Blue to Central Point from Roquefort, France. Rogue Creamery was the first U.S. cheese maker to export raw-milk cheese to the European Union. Their products can be found in other countries including the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan.Rogue may be the first American creamery to command worldwide respect.
