House at 3 Davis Avenue

The House at 15 Davis Avenue in Newton, Massachusetts, is a well-preserved modest Italianate house. It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, whose features include paired brackets in the eaves, bracketed lintels above the doors and windows, and paneled corner pilaster strips. The main entrance is flanked by sidelight windows and topped by a transom. Likely built in the 1850s, this was probably one of the first houses built when Seth Davis (whose house stands on Eden Avenue) began to sell off some of his landholdings.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The front entrance is flanked by pilasters and topped by a gabled pediment. The house was built c. 1735, probably for Dr. Samuel Wheat, Jr, and is one of the oldest houses in the city. It was probably built with the gambrel roof, but the dormers are a 19th-century addition.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Railroad Hotel (Seth Davis Tavern) is a building that served as an historic hotel at the triangular lot where Washington Street joins Watertown Street (Route 16) in the West Newton section of Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1831, it is the only early building still standing in West Newton's village center. The Railroad Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property to the West Newton Village Center Historic District.

Built c. 1860s, the two-plus story wood-frame house is distinguished as one of Newton's finest Second Empire houses. Its eaves are lined with dentil moulding and paired brackets, its windows have elaborate hoods, and its porch, which wraps around two sides of the house, has elaborate woodwork detail. The house was built for Henry Gane, a successful Boston merchant, and originally stood on 16 acres (6.5 ha) of manicured grounds at the corner of Waltham and Derby Streets. The land was subdivided in 1897, after which adjacent Northgate Park was developed; the house was moved to its present location after World War I.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was probably built in the 1860s, and is one of Newton's finest Second Empire houses. It has a mansard roof pierced by dormers with rounded or triangular gabled pediments. Its main facade has a slightly projecting central section, which includes an elaborately decorated porch that projects further forward and extends the full width of the front. Charles D. Elliott was part owner of a local coal and lumber yard.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Nathaniel Topliff Allen Homestead is a historic house at 35 Webster Street in the village of West Newton, in Newton, Massachusetts. The Greek Revival house is notable as the home of Nathaniel Topliff Allen (1823–1903), an innovative educator in the mid-19th century. Allen's pioneering work influenced the development of new teaching methods taught at the state normal school (established in Newton, now Framingham State University). The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and is currently owned by Newton Cultural Alliance.

West Newton English and Classical School, also known as the Allen School, was a model school in West Newton, Massachusetts, United States. It was established in 1854 by Nathaniel Topliff Allen (1823–1903), an educator and protege of Horace Mann. Allen was an advocate of women's suffrage, temperance, and the abolition of slavery, and his school, unusual at the time, had a racially integrated, co-educational student body. It offered a kindergarten program based upon the principles of Froebel's Kindergarten System, and included gymnastics in its curriculum, both of which were, in America, educational innovations. The school's coursework included reading, spelling, arithmetic, geography, geology, and bookkeeping. Daily journals kept by students were critiqued every two weeks. The school also taught art, music, dancing and ethics. Students attended lectures by guest speakers such as Theodore Parker, William Lloyd Garrison, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Many of Allen's relatives, including his uncles, brothers, cousins, nieces, and three daughters, lived and taught at the school, and provided lodging in their homes for students.Over the course of its 50 years in existence, more than 5,000 students attended the school. Students came from all over the world, and many graduates, both men and women, went on to have careers in medicine, law, government, and education.

The Dr. Samuel Warren House is a historic house in the West Newton village of Newton, Massachusetts. The oldest part of the house, its southern portion, was built c. 1716 by William Williams, an early settler of the area, and expanded to its present size around 1751. It was originally located near Washington Street, but was moved to its present location in the second half of the 19th century. The building has had a succession of owners prominent in the development of West Newton, including the physician Dr. Samuel Warren and the educator Nathaniel Topliff Allen. It was converted for use as professional offices in 1960.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The House at 309 Waltham Street in Newton, Massachusetts, is a well-preserved high style Greek Revival house. The 2+1⁄2-story house was built c. 1835; it has a classic Greek temple front, with two-story Ionic columns supporting an entablature and pedimented gable, with a balcony at the second level. Single-story Ionic columns support a porch running along the left side of the house. It is one six documented temple-front houses in the city.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The C. G. Howes Dry Cleaning—Carley Real Estate building is a historic commercial building at 1171 Washington Street in the West Newton village of Newton, Massachusetts. The single story buff brick building was constructed in 1928, to a design by Boston architect William Drummey, to house the dry cleaning and fur storage business of C. G. Howes. In 1937 the building was purchased by Doris Carley, founder of the Carley Realty Company, the first female-owned realty business in the city. Ms. Carley was also one of the founders of the regional multiple listing service, and was active in the real estate business for fifty years.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. It is listed on the register at 1173 Washington Street.As of early 2020, the building was demolished.
