The Henry Gane House is a historic house at 121 Adena Road in Newton, Massachusetts. Built c. 1860s, the two-plus story wood-frame house is distinguished as one of Newton's finest Second Empire houses. Its eaves are lined with dentil moulding and paired brackets, its windows have elaborate hoods, and its porch, which wraps around two sides of the house, has elaborate woodwork detail. The house was built for Henry Gane, a successful Boston merchant, and originally stood on 16 acres (6.5 ha) of manicured grounds at the corner of Waltham and Derby Streets. The land was subdivided in 1897, after which adjacent Northgate Park was developed; the house was moved to its present location after World War I.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was probably built in the 1860s, and is one of Newton's finest Second Empire houses. It has a mansard roof pierced by dormers with rounded or triangular gabled pediments. Its main facade has a slightly projecting central section, which includes an elaborately decorated porch that projects further forward and extends the full width of the front. Charles D. Elliott was part owner of a local coal and lumber yard.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Samuel Wheat House is a historic house at 399 Waltham Street in Newton, Massachusetts. It is a 2+1⁄2-story timber-frame house, five bays wide, with a gambrel roof and clapboard siding. The front entrance is flanked by pilasters and topped by a gabled pediment. The house was built c. 1735, probably for Dr. Samuel Wheat, Jr, and is one of the oldest houses in the city. It was probably built with the gambrel roof, but the dormers are a 19th-century addition.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The House at 3 Davis Avenue in West Newton, Massachusetts, is a well-preserved modest Italianate residence. It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house, three bays wide, with a front-facing gable roof. It was built c. 1853, and has an unusual amount of decorative trim for a modest house. The eaves and gables are studded with brackets, and the corners have quoining blocks. The front parlor windows, sheltered by a porch also studded with brackets, are of extended length.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, whose features include paired brackets in the eaves, bracketed lintels above the doors and windows, and paneled corner pilaster strips. The main entrance is flanked by sidelight windows and topped by a transom. Likely built in the 1850s, this was probably one of the first houses built when Seth Davis (whose house stands on Eden Avenue) began to sell off some of his landholdings.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The West Parish Burying Ground, also known as the River Street Burying Ground or River Street Cemetery, is a cemetery located at River and Cherry streets in West Newton, Massachusetts, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Established in 1777, the cemetery is owned and maintained by the City of Newton; the Second Church in Newton, its original owner, was known as the West Parish.

The Railroad Hotel (Seth Davis Tavern) is a building that served as an historic hotel at the triangular lot where Washington Street joins Watertown Street (Route 16) in the West Newton section of Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1831, it is the only early building still standing in West Newton's village center. The Railroad Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property to the West Newton Village Center Historic District.

The Nathaniel Topliff Allen Homestead is a historic house at 35 Webster Street in the village of West Newton, in Newton, Massachusetts. The Greek Revival house is notable as the home of Nathaniel Topliff Allen (1823–1903), an innovative educator in the mid-19th century. Allen's pioneering work influenced the development of new teaching methods taught at the state normal school (established in Newton, now Framingham State University). The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and is currently owned by Newton Cultural Alliance.

West Newton English and Classical School, also known as the Allen School, was a model school in West Newton, Massachusetts, United States. It was established in 1854 by Nathaniel Topliff Allen (1823–1903), an educator and protege of Horace Mann. Allen was an advocate of women's suffrage, temperance, and the abolition of slavery, and his school, unusual at the time, had a racially integrated, co-educational student body. It offered a kindergarten program based upon the principles of Froebel's Kindergarten System, and included gymnastics in its curriculum, both of which were, in America, educational innovations. The school's coursework included reading, spelling, arithmetic, geography, geology, and bookkeeping. Daily journals kept by students were critiqued every two weeks. The school also taught art, music, dancing and ethics. Students attended lectures by guest speakers such as Theodore Parker, William Lloyd Garrison, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Many of Allen's relatives, including his uncles, brothers, cousins, nieces, and three daughters, lived and taught at the school, and provided lodging in their homes for students.Over the course of its 50 years in existence, more than 5,000 students attended the school. Students came from all over the world, and many graduates, both men and women, went on to have careers in medicine, law, government, and education.
