Pilton is a small village and civil parish in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. The population of the village was 39 at the 2001 census. This remained less than 100 and was included in the civil parish of Lyndon. The village's name means 'farm/settlement with a creek', perhaps referring to the River Chater. Though, 'shaft' and 'willow-tree' have been thought of as possible first elements.It is a mile or two south of Rutland Water, and near North Luffenham, Wing and Lyndon. To the east of the village is the site of the former Pilton Brick & Tile Works which was part of the Normanton estate, owned by the Earls of Ancaster. St Nicholas' Church, Pilton is a Grade II* listed building.

Wing Water Treatment Works is a 1.5-hectare (3.7-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Wing in Rutland. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This site is stratigraphically important both regionally and nationally, as it has the longest sequence known in Britain of deposits from the warm Ipswichian interglacial around 120,000 years ago, and it has yielded new paleobotanical records for this period.There is access to the site from Morcott Road, but it has been filled in and no geology is visible. The site is adjacent to the water treatment works, operated by Anglian Water, that treats water extracted from Rutland Water reservoir, a few miles to the north.

Edith Weston Priory was a small alien house of Benedictine monks in Edith Weston, Rutland. The French parent house of Abbey of Saint-Georges, Boscherville was founded by Ralf de Tanquerville, chamberlain to William the Conqueror, about the year 1050. By 1114 his son William donated the church and manor at Edith Weston, and a small cell of monks was set up to collect the rents and intercede for the founder's soul.The cell was one of two in England: William founded Avebury Priory in Wiltshire around the same time. Like all alien houses, control (and revenues) passed to the Crown in time of war with France, and it was during one of these periods that the priory closed. The last known Prior was in 1361, and by 1394 the church and manor had been sold to St. Anne's Priory, Coventry, bringing the priory to an end.Pevsner was dismissive of the priory, saying that Brooke Priory was the only monastery in Rutland as "Edith Weston hardly counts as one".The earthwork remains probably now lie below the waters of Rutland Water.

Wing is a village and civil parish in the East Midlands county of Rutland, England. The population was 315 at the 2001 census and 314 at that of 2011. It features a fine church and a labyrinth made of turf. Rutland Water reservoir is nearby.

The Hambleton Peninsula lies within the reservoir Rutland Water, in Rutland, England. When the Gwash Valley was dammed in 1975, the area surrounding what was then a ridge were submerged, including a small number of properties in the hamlets of Nether Hambleton and Middle Hambleton. The village of Upper Hambleton survived, and now sits on the peninsula, which is some 3500 metres in length and 1000 metres in width. The area of the peninsula lies in the parish of Hambleton with the exception of a small detached area of Exton parish on the north shore. The Hambleton Peninsula and its surroundings feature heavily in British author Robert Goddard´s fictional mystery thriller Set in Stone (1999).

Hambleton Hall is a hotel and restaurant located in the village of Hambleton close to Oakham, Rutland, England. The restaurant has held one star in the Michelin Guide since 1982.The Hall was built in 1881 as a hunting box by Walter Marshall who left it to his sister, Eva Astley Paston Cooper. She was a socialite who gathered a salon including Noël Coward, Malcolm Sargent and Charles Scott-Moncrieff. The hall has overlooked Rutland Water since the reservoir's construction in the 1970s. The building was converted into a country house hotel in 1979/80 by Tim and Stefa Hart. The hotel has held a Michelin Star since 1982. Hambleton Hall has been named Luxury Hotel of the Year in The Good Hotel Guide, 2018.

The Vale of Catmose is an area of relatively low-lying land, much of which is flooded by Rutland Water, in western Rutland, England.The Catmose College (1972 - 2009 the Vale of Catmose College) is a school located in Oakham. Catmose is the name of the offices of Rutland County Council. Catmose Vale was the name of a former hospital in Oakham.

Edith Weston is a village and civil parish in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. The population of the civil parish was 1,042 at the 2001 census, including Normanton and increasing to 1,359 at the 2011 census. It is on the south-eastern shore of Rutland Water and is home of the main sailing club and a fishing lodge. The village is named after Edith of Wessex (1029–1075), the queen of Edward the Confessor and sister of Harold Godwinson. The Grade I listed church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and includes stained glass by Paul Woodroffe and Hugh Arnold; the organ is by Samuel Green of London and dated 1787. The village pub is the Wheatsheaf on King Edward's Way. St George's Barracks is located to the south and east of the village; this was previously RAF North Luffenham. In August 2007 16th Regiment Royal Artillery, equipped with the Rapier FSC, moved here from Woolwich. Edith Weston features in the Alan Sillitoe novel Down From the Hill, with the main character stopping off in the Wheatsheaf for a shandy.
