The Helston Railway (Cornish: Hyns-horn Hellys) is a heritage railway in Cornwall which aims to rebuild and preserve as much as possible of the former GWR Helston Railway between Nancegollen and Water-Ma-Trout on the outskirts of Helston. It is operated by the Helston Railway Preservation Company using members of the Helston Railway Preservation Society. The Railway was a 8.5 miles (13.7 km) long 4 ft 8+1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) standard gauge railway branch line and is the southernmost branch line in the United Kingdom. It opened in 1887 and was absorbed by the Great Western Railway in 1898, continuing in existence as the Helston branch, and closing to passengers in 1962 and to goods in 1964.It was built to open up the agricultural district of south-west Cornwall, joining Helston to the main line railway network at Gwinear Road, between Penzance and Truro. Its predominant business was agricultural, but in summer it carried holidaymakers, and its terminus at Helston was the railhead for a pioneering road connection service to the Lizard. During the Second World War there was considerable goods traffic at Nancegollan, sponsored by the Admiralty. The current Heritage Railway has won a number of awards including: The Ian Allan Publishing Heritage Railway of the Year 2010, The Heritage Railway Association Publication & Media Award 2012 and The Heritage Railway Association Small Groups Award 2019.

Trevarno is a private country estate in south-west Cornwall, England, UK, near the village of Crowntown, 2 miles (3.2 km) north-east of Helston. First developed in the 13th century, the estate was owned by a succession of families until 1994 when it was sold for development as a tourist attraction based around its extensive gardens. It was open to the public from 1998 until 2011, but the estate has since been broken up and the house and gardens are again a private residence.

Wheal Metal

Wheal Metal is a tin-mining sett in west Cornwall, England, UK. Whilst not as famous as neighbouring Wheal Vor, it was thus described by the Mining Journal in July 1885: " Truly this is a wonderful mine—probably the richest tin mine in the world." It also hosts a very remarkable engine house of the mid-19th century that once stood over Trelawney's shaft on Wheal Vor, and since the Wheal Vor area itself has no visible remains, this is the only large surviving engine house of this group of mines which accounted for over a quarter of Cornish tin production in the mid-19th century.

The population including Boscadjack and Crowntown at the 2011 census was 841.It is named after Saint Sithney, the patron saint of the parish church. Saint Sithney was one of the band of Irish missionaries who came to west Cornwall. William Worcester recorded in 1478 that the body of the saint lay within the church.

Nancegollan (Cornish: Nansigolen) is a village in the civil parish of Crowan in west Cornwall, England. Nancegollan is on the B3303 road and south-east of Leedstown. The railway line from Helston to Hayle passed through the village (closed in 1964). Nancegollan station was the largest of the four stations on the branch. On Polcrebo Downs is the engine house of the Polcrebo Mine which was reopened in 1882 and still working in the 1890s; but is of very ancient origin.The name Nancegollan comes from the Cornish language words nans, meaning 'valley', and igolen, meaning 'whetstone'.

Gwavas is a hamlet in the parish of Sithney, Cornwall, United Kingdom. Gwavas is adjoining Lowertown-by-Helston. The hamlet is a rural farming hamlet which once had a shop. Gwavas is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) northwest of Helston. The hamlet is notable for a German plane crash during World War II, when a farmer here heard a loud noise and went out to find a plane crashed into his field. His wife made the German men cups of tea, while the farmer went in and cleaned the men's clothes and whistle.

Wheal Fortune or Great Wheal Fortune is the site of a mine in the civil parishes of Breage and Sithney in west Cornwall. Part of the disused mine was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its geological interest in 1991 and is also a Geological Conservation Review site of national importance for the minerals on the site.
