Sithney

Wheal Fortune or Great Wheal Fortune is the site of a mine in the civil parishes of Breage and Sithney in west Cornwall. Part of the disused mine was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its geological interest in 1991 and is also a Geological Conservation Review site of national importance for the minerals on the site.

Wheal Metal is a tin-mining sett in west Cornwall, England, UK. Whilst not as famous as neighbouring Wheal Vor, it was thus described by the Mining Journal in July 1885: " Truly this is a wonderful mine—probably the richest tin mine in the world." It also hosts a very remarkable engine house of the mid-19th century that once stood over Trelawney's shaft on Wheal Vor, and since the Wheal Vor area itself has no visible remains, this is the only large surviving engine house of this group of mines which accounted for over a quarter of Cornish tin production in the mid-19th century.

Wheal Vor was a metalliferous mine about 2 miles (3.2 km) north west of Helston and 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the village of Breage in the west of Cornwall, England, UK. It is considered to be part of the Mount's Bay mining district. Until the mid-19th century the mine was known for its willingness to try out new innovations. Although very rich in copper and tin ores, the mine never lived up to its expectations. During the later part of the 19th century it had several periods of closure, with an attempt to reopen it in the 1960s which was not successful mainly because of bureaucracy. Today the site is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape.

Helston Rural District was a local government division of Cornwall in England, UK, between 1894 and 1934. Established under the Local Government Act 1894, the rural district was abolished in 1934 to create Camborne–Redruth Urban District and Kerrier Rural District, as well as enlarging Helston Municipal Borough.

Breage Parish Church is the Anglican parish church of the parish of Breage, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is dedicated to Saint Breage or Breaca, said to have been an Irish nun who came to Cornwall in the 5th-century.

Breage ( BREEG, locally BRAYG; Cornish: Eglosbrek (village) or Pluw Vrek (parish)) is a civil parish and village in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The village is three miles (5 km) west of Helston.Other settlements in the parish include the villages of Ashton, Carleen and Godolphin Cross; the coastal village of Praa Sands; and the Great Work Mine. The ward population at the Census 2011 had increased to 4,757. Breage civil parish had a population increase to 3181.Breage is named after Saint Breaca, a missionary from Ireland (to whom the 15th-century church is dedicated) and it is in the former Kerrier District.

The Helston Railway (Cornish: Hyns-horn Hellys) is a heritage railway in Cornwall which aims to rebuild and preserve as much as possible of the former GWR Helston Railway between Nancegollen and Water-Ma-Trout on the outskirts of Helston. It is operated by the Helston Railway Preservation Company using members of the Helston Railway Preservation Society. The Railway was a 8.5 miles (13.7 km) long 4 ft 8+1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) standard gauge railway branch line and is the southernmost branch line in the United Kingdom. It opened in 1887 and was absorbed by the Great Western Railway in 1898, continuing in existence as the Helston branch, and closing to passengers in 1962 and to goods in 1964.It was built to open up the agricultural district of south-west Cornwall, joining Helston to the main line railway network at Gwinear Road, between Penzance and Truro. Its predominant business was agricultural, but in summer it carried holidaymakers, and its terminus at Helston was the railhead for a pioneering road connection service to the Lizard. During the Second World War there was considerable goods traffic at Nancegollan, sponsored by the Admiralty. The current Heritage Railway has won a number of awards including: The Ian Allan Publishing Heritage Railway of the Year 2010, The Heritage Railway Association Publication & Media Award 2012 and The Heritage Railway Association Small Groups Award 2019.

Trevarno is a private country estate in south-west Cornwall, England, UK, near the village of Crowntown, 2 miles (3.2 km) north-east of Helston. First developed in the 13th century, the estate was owned by a succession of families until 1994 when it was sold for development as a tourist attraction based around its extensive gardens. It was open to the public from 1998 until 2011, but the estate has since been broken up and the house and gardens are again a private residence.

Polladras is a hamlet in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated one mile south of Godolphin Cross and three miles (5 km) northwest of Helston; it is northeast of Tregonning Hill.Polladras is a group of settlements along two rural roads, inhabited by families and retired people. It includes a campsite at Lower Polladras and a care home.

Breaney Methodist chapel is a Methodist chapel in the village of Breage, near Helston, Cornwall, UK. The chapel is on Trewithick road in Breage, past the school. It was built in 1829 for and by the Miners of Breage. There were many other chapels in Breage parish (all of them turned into houses except one which is now a social club). The chapel is listed as of having architectural merit and must be painted white as it is a marker for fishermen in the bay. It was officially called Troon Methodist chapel until 1992 when the name changed to Breaney. Breaney was the name chosen by the uniting congregations of Breage and Sithney obviously taking half of each name! In 1992 the chapel was renovated with a new first floor worship area, new seating, new carpets, new paint, a new organ and more whilst key features such as the gallery pews and plaster columns were retained. In 2016 the future of the chapel was questioned in a rationalisation process by The Lizard & Mounts bay Methodist circuit. After much prayer and discussion the fellowship are seeking new ways to serve the community and share the love of God. The Methodist chapel originally had a very old, mainly wood pipe organ which was fitted in the organ loft but in 1992 the organ was taken out and replaced by an electronic organ. There is an Ordnance Survey benchmark on the bottom wall of the chapel on a corner.
