Ballagarraghyn (Manx: [baləˈɡɑɾəxən], "farm of O'Dorchan's") is a farm situated between the 7th milestone and 8th Milestone road-side markers on the primary A1 Douglas to Peel road in the parish of German in the Isle of Man.

Ballacraine (Manx: [baləˈkʰɾɛːn], "McCrayne" or "Craine's farm"; archaic Ballagarraghan Beg) is located between the 7th and 8th milestones of the TT course, at the junction of the A1 Douglas to Peel and A3 Castletown to Ramsey primary roads in the parish of German in the Isle of Man. It is now at the east end of the ribbon development of St. John's village. At the junction is the former public house, the Ballacraine Inn, now a private residence.

Ballaspur (Manx: farm of the spur, Rock Farm) is situated between the 7th and 8th Milestone road-side markers on the Snaefell Mountain Course used for the Isle of Man TT races on the A3 Castletown to Ramsey road in the parish of German in the Isle of Man. Ballaspur has become known for the spectacular crash of Manxman Richard 'Milky' Quayle in 2003 who caught the roadside to the left, impacting heavily to the right after losing control at high speed.Ballaspur was part of the Highland Course and Four Inch Course used for the Gordon Bennett Trial and Tourist Trophy car races held between 1904 and 1922. It was part of the St. John's Short Course used between 1907 and 1910 and part of the Snaefell Mountain Course used since 1911 for the TT races and 1923 for the Manx Grand Prix. The surrounding areas are mainly farmland with nearby summits of Beary Mountain at 1,020 feet (311 m), Greeba Mountain at 1,385 feet (422 m) and Slieau Whallian at 1,093 feet (333 m).

Greeba Bridge is situated between the 6th milestone and 7th road milestones on the primary A1 Douglas to Peel road and the junction with the Greeba Mill Road in the parish of Kirk German in the Isle of Man. The A1 Greeba road bridge passes over the Greeba river, a tributary of the River Dhoo which flows eastward to the town of Douglas. The Greeba river flows into the nearby Greeba Curragh or ‘Greeba Gap,’ a former pre-Ice Age river valley, a low-lying watershed of the Douglas to Peel central valley.

Ballacraine Halt (Manx: Stadd Valley Craine) was an infrequent request stop on the Isle of Man Railway.

Ballig (Manx: farm of the hollow, also known as Ballig Bridge) is a small hamlet of a few houses situated between the 8th and 9th Milestone road-side markers on the Snaefell Mountain Course between Ballacraine and Glen Helen. It is the site of a former notorious hump-back bridge used for the Isle of Man TT Races on the primary A3 Castletown to Ramsey and the road junction with the A20 Poortown Road in the parish of German in the Isle of Man. The former Ballig Bridge was part of the Highland Course and Four Inch Course used for the Gordon Bennett Trial and Tourist Trophy automobile car races held in the Isle of Man between 1904 and 1922. Also, Ballig Bridge was part of the St John's Short Course used between 1907 and 1910 and part of the Snaefell Mountain Course used since 1911 for the Isle of Man TT Races and 1923 for the Manx Grand Prix. The area is dominated by the farmland, including the Beary Mountain, St John's village, and Tynwald Mills. A number of changes occurred to the Mountain Course during the 1930s with extensive road widening on the A18 Mountain Road and the removal of the hump-back bridge and road straightening at Ballig for the 1935 racing season and the road work is completed for the Manx Grand Prix in September 1935. The George Formby film No Limit (1936 film) used the 1935 Isle of Man TT races as a backdrop for filming including Ballig Bridge.

The Foxdale Railway was a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge branch line which ran from St. John's to Foxdale on the Isle of Man.

St Johns United A.F.C. is a football club from St John's on the Isle of Man. It competes in the Isle of Man Football League. It plays in a royal blue and yellow striped kit and plays their home games at Mullen-y-Cloie in St John's.

The St John's Short Course was a road-racing street circuit used for the Isle of Man TT held between 1907 and 1910. The races were run in a time-trial format on public roads closed for racing by an Act of Tynwald (the parliament of the Isle of Man) around a circuit starting from the village of St John's, proceeding through Ballacraine, Kirk Michael, Peel and back to St John's The first motorcycle race was held on 28 May 1907 over 10 laps of the Short Course of 15 miles 1,470 yards and was for road-legal touring motor-cycles with exhaust silencers, saddles, pedals and mud-guards.The startline was situated in St John's with the Short Course based on a number of public roads including the primary A1 Douglas to Peel road, A3 Castletown to Ramsey road and the primary A4 Peel to Kirk Michael Coast Road. The highest point of the course was on the primary A3 Castletown to Ramsey Road at St John's Chapelon the Cronk-y-Voddy straight at 780 ft above sea level.54°14′27″N 4°36′23″W

Appledene is situated between the 6th and 7th roadside mile-markers, measured from the startline of the Snaefell Mountain Course used for the Isle of Man TT races, on the primary A1 Douglas to Peel road in the Isle of Man parish of German. Appledene was part of the Four Inch Course used for the Tourist Trophy car races held between 1905 and 1922, and part of the course used for 1905 International Motor-Cycle Cup Races. It is part of the Mountain Course used since 1911 for the TT from 1923 for the Manx Grand Prix races. Before the start of racing for the 1953 Manx Grand Prix, the cottage at Appledene corner on the A1 road was demolished.

St John's (Manx: Balley Keeill Eoin) is a small village in the sheading of Glenfaba in the Isle of Man, in the island's central valley. It is in the House of Keys constituency of Glenfaba & Peel, which elects two MHKs.

Bunscoill Ghaelgagh is a government-run Manx-language primary school in St John's, Isle of Man that has enabled 170 children to learn fluent Manx. As of 2011 it is the only school in the world where children are taught their lessons solely in Manx and which allows children to learn the language fluently. Pupils may then go on to Queen Elizabeth II High School in Peel or to their catchment area's high school, where General Certificate of Secondary Education Manx is offered from the age of 12.
