Penafiel

Tâmega Subregion (European Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈtɐmɨɣɐ]) is a former NUTS3 subregion, part of the NUTS2 region of Norte Region, Portugal. It was abolished at the January 2015 NUTS 3 revision. Its name derives from the Tâmega River that crosses through the subregion. With 558,000 inhabitants (2005) it is the fourth most populated subregion in Portugal. It has several important urban centers - Paços de Ferreira (pop. 41,000), Lousada (pop. 25,000), Penafiel (24,000), Paredes and Felgueiras (pop. 21,000) - being one of the most decentralized of the Portuguese subregions. The chief city is Penafiel. Other important cities are: Amarante, Felgueiras, Freamunde, Gandra, Lixa, Marco de Canaveses, Paços de Ferreira, Paredes, Rebordosa and São Salvador de Lordelo. Important towns: Baião, Cabeceiras de Basto, Castelo de Paiva (Sobrado), Cinfães, Lousada, Resende, Ribeira de Pena and Vila Meã. The main economical activities are centered on light industry, furniture, agriculture and wine. It covers an area of 2,631 km2 with a density of 212 inhabitants/km2. Main rivers: Douro River, Tâmega River and Sousa River.

Rans is a village and a civil parish of the municipality of Penafiel, Portugal. The population in 2021 was 1,804, in an area of 5.11 km2. Vitorino Silva, two times presidential candidate, was the president of the parish from 1994 until 2002.

Paredes is a city and a civil parish in the municipality of Paredes, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Castelões de Cepeda, Mouriz, Vila Cova de Carros, Madalena, Besteiros, Gondalães and Bitarães. The population in 2011 was 19,834, in an area of 21.51 km².

Castelões de Cepeda is a former civil parish in the municipality of Paredes, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Paredes. The population in 2011 was 8,755, in an area of 3.28 km². It contained the city centre of Paredes.

The population in 2021 was 84,354, in an area of 156.76 square kilometres (60.53 sq mi). Currently, Paredes Municipality contains four cities: Paredes, Rebordosa, São Salvador de Lordelo and Gandra, being the Portuguese municipality with the most cities. Paredes has a total of 18 parishes. The municipality is bordered on the north by the municipality of Paços de Ferreira, to the east by Lousada and Penafiel, to the southwest by Gondomar and to the west by Valongo. The municipality was created in 1836.

It has 18 freguesias in its area of jurisdiction and is based in the city of Paredes, on the Porto District. These freguesias are: Aguiar de Sousa, Astromil, Baltar, Beire, Cete, Cristelo, Duas Igrejas, Gandra, Lordelo, Louredo, Parada de Todeia, Paredes, Rebordosa, Recarei, Sobreira, Sobrosa, Vandoma and Vilela. The Paredes City Council is made up of 9 councillors, representing, currently, two different political forces. The first candidate on the list with the most votes in a municipal election or, in the event of a vacancy, the next candidate on the list, takes office as President of the Municipal Chamber.

The Castro of Monte Mozinho (Portuguese: Povoado fortificado de Monte Mozinho/Cidade Morta de Penafiel) is a Neolithic fortified settlement, sometimes referred to as the Dead City, situated in the civil parish of Oldrões, in the municipality of Penafiel in the Tâmega Subregion of the Portuguese district of Porto.

Besteiros is a former civil parish in the municipality of Paredes, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Paredes. The population in 2011 was 1,448, in an area of 2.13 km².

Cete is a Portuguese freguesia ("civil parish") of the municipality of Paredes. The population in 2011 was 3,113, in an area of 4.68 km².
