Hornby Island of British Columbia, Canada, is one of the two northernmost Gulf Islands, the other being Denman Island. It is located near Vancouver Island's Comox Valley, A small community of 1,225 residents (as of the 2021 census), Hornby is home to many artists, retired professionals, small business owners, remote workers, and young families who share a love of rural island life. Over the past 30 years, the island has become a coveted destination and its population easily quadruples in size during the summer months. The shoulder seasons are a preferred time for hiking, mountain biking, marine activities, weddings, and retreats. Most people reach the island by ferries from Buckley Bay, Vancouver Island. A growing number of private boats also visit through mooring at the Ford Cove Marina or anchoring at Tribune Bay. The closest airport is Comox Valley Airport in Comox, which provides regional, national, and international service. The primary destinations on Hornby are Tribune Bay Provincial Park, Helliwell Provincial Park, Ford's Cove, Heron Rocks and Whaling Station Bay. The island is also a popular mountain biking destination, with a variety of designated trails in Mount Geoffrey Regional Nature Park, Mount Geoffrey Escarpment Provincial Park and Crown Land. The total land area is 29.92 square kilometres (11.55 sq mi), of which 40% is parkland.

Mount Geoffrey Regional Nature Park is regional park in British Columbia, Canada, located on Hornby Island. It covers an area of 303 hectares (750 acres), including the 330-metre (1,080 ft) summit of Mount Geoffrey, the highest point on the island. There are facilities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

Tribune Bay Provincial Park is a provincial park located on Hornby Island in British Columbia, Canada. It features a broad, crescent-shaped beach of white sand, Tribune Bay (a shallow, warm-water bay), and spring wildflowers. There are opportunities for canoeing, fishing, hiking, tennis, picnicking and open water swimming. Six pit toilets are provided.The bay (and hence the park) was named after HMS Tribune, a ship stationed in British Columbia in 1859–1860 and 1864.

Mount Geoffrey Escarpment Provincial Park is a Class-A provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, located on the southwest coast of Hornby Island. It covers an area of 187 hectares (460 acres), stretching from the Shingle Spit ferry landing in the west to Ford Cove in the east. There are facilities for hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, sightseeing, open water swimming, and horseback riding.

Boyle Point Provincial Park and Protected Area is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, located on the south end of Denman Island in the western Gulf of Georgia.

Chrome Island is the site of a light station in the Salish Sea/Georgia Strait on the coast of Vancouver Island in an area known as Baynes Sound. It is 100 metres (330 ft) off the southeast tip of Denman Island and 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) east-northeast of the harbour at Deep Bay, British Columbia. The island was known as Yellow Rock until 1940, when the name was changed to prevent confusion with a similarly named island. Archaeological studies have explored evidence of a pre-contact people there, including petroglyphs, human bones and a midden of discarded shells.

Chrome Island Lighthouse is a light station established in 1891 that assists traffic in the region of Deep Bay, British Columbia, Denman Island, and Hornby Island. It is currently a manned station, though in recent years the Canadian Coast Guard has considered automating it. Along with electronic navigational aids, the five-second-flash lighthouse is about 21 metres (69 ft) above water level (depending on tides). The station has a helicopter landing deck and rescue boat. The light is one of the 12 locations of the British Columbia Shore Station Oceanographic Program, and has collected coastal water temperature and salinity measurements for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans since 1961.

Helliwell Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada located on a headland at the northeast end of Hornby Island. The land, formerly a farm belonging to the Acton family, was donated by Mr. J. L. Helliwell. The park was established by Order in Council 2681 on September 16, 1966 and expanded several times thereafter. Its 2,872 hectares (7,100 acres) now include Flora Islet and part of Lambert Channel.There are facilities for hiking, canoeing, picnicking, sightseeing, and scuba diving. Restroom facilities consist of four pit toilets.The park has large old-growth Douglas-fir trees and rare Garry oak ecosystems. A trail loops around the bluffs that overlook the Strait of Georgia and links-up with Tribune Bay. The Garry oak meadow ecosystem is one of the many microclimates located within British Columbia and is considered an endangered habitat.The cliffs in the southern part of the park form a unique microclimate that local community groups are attempting to protect. These cliffs are also nesting areas for the pelagic cormorant.

Deep Bay is an unincorporated area on the east coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada across Baynes Sound from Denman Island which has a government marina in a naturally protected harbour. It is situated on Highway 19A north of Qualicum Beach between Fanny Bay and Bowser. The June 23, 1946 Vancouver Island earthquake shocked the Strait of Georgia region, causing the bottom of Deep Bay to sink between 2.7 m (9 ft) and 25.6 m (84 ft). Deep Bay is the home of the Deep Bay Marine Field Station. The Island Rail Corridor passes through the area, although there is no longer a train service in operation.

The Deep Bay station is located in Deep Bay, British Columbia. The station was a flag stop on Via Rail's Dayliner service. Service ended in 2011.

Fillongley Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, located on the east side of Denman Island, southeast of Courtenay, British Columbia, and facing Georgia Strait.

Bowser ( BOUGH-zər) is a community on the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It has a population of 1,729. Approximately 66 kilometres (41 mi) north of Nanaimo, Bowser is in a region informally known as Lighthouse Country, spanning a stretch of highway that extends from Qualicum Beach in the south to Horne Lake to the west and Fanny Bay in the north and east to Denman and Hornby Islands. Bowser is in the Regional District of Nanaimo and in its Electoral Area H, one of eight in the District. The community was named after William J. Bowser, premier of British Columbia from 1915 to 1916. Bowser is served by the coast-spanning Island Highway. Bowser's local hotel was famous in the 1930s for a dog trained by his owners to deliver beer bottles to tables, receive the payment, and deliver change, a feat listed in "Ripley's Believe It or Not!". Bowser has lent its name to a soil series which is widespread on eastern Vancouver Island. Bowser loamy sand is mapped under the whole community.Near the community is the Bowser Ecological Reserve, which was established in 1996 to protect part of a productive forest ecosystem. While the 113-hectare ecological reserve was created for research purposes, including surveying species regenerating after a fire that occurred in the area over 100 years prior, it is open to the public for hiking.
