Kolovrat (Friulian: Colorât, Italian: Colovrat) is a mountain ridge of the Julian Prealps on the border between Slovenia and Italy, west of Tolmin and southeast of Kobarid. It is a geographical border between the Soča Valley in Slovenia and the Venetian Slovenia region of Italy. It extends about 7 km at an elevation between 800 and 1150 m. There are two roads on the ridge, one from the Italian side, accessible from Drenchia, and one from the Slovenian side, accessible from the villages of Livek and Volče. Between the 15th and late 18th centuries, the Kolovrat Ridge used to be the border between the Habsburg monarchy and the Venetian Republic. Between 1866 and 1918, the border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Italy also ran along the same line. Between 1947 and 1991, it was the border between Italy and Yugoslavia. In 1917, it was an important site in the Battle of Caporetto.

Ročinj (pronounced [ɾɔˈtʃiːn] or [ˈɾɔːtʃin]; Italian: Ronzina) is a village on the right bank of the Soča River in the Municipality of Kanal ob Soči in the Littoral region of Slovenia.

It is the seat of the Municipality of Kanal ob Soči. It is an important crossing point over the Soča. At its eastern border, on the left bank of the Soča, runs the Bohinj Railway, the railway track linking the Central Europe and the Mediterranean.

Doblar (pronounced [ˈdoːblaɾ]) is a settlement on the right bank of the Soča River in the Municipality of Kanal ob Soči in the Littoral region of Slovenia. The settlement extends along the valley of Doblarec Creek, a tributary of the Soča.

Avče (pronounced [ˈaːu̯tʃɛ], Italian: Auzza) is a settlement on the left bank of the Soča River in the Municipality of Kanal ob Soči in the Littoral region of Slovenia. It includes the hamlets of Dolnji Avšček, Gor(e)nji Avšček, and Langa along Avšček Creek southeast of the main settlement, Nadavče to the west, and Spodnji Log and Vrtače to the north along the railroad.

The Municipality of Kanal ob Soči (pronounced [kaˈnaːl ɔp ˈsoːtʃi] or [kaˈnaːu̯ ɔp ˈsoːtʃi]; Slovene: Občina Kanal ob Soči) is a municipality in the traditional region of the Littoral in western Slovenia. The seat of the municipality is the town of Kanal. Kanal ob Soči became a municipality in 1994.

Čolnica (pronounced [ˈtʃoːlnitsa]) is a small settlement in the Municipality of Kanal ob Soči in western Slovenia. Until 2007, the area was part of the settlement of Gorenja Vas. The settlement is part of the traditional region of the Slovenian Littoral and is included in the Gorizia Statistical Region.

Volčanski Ruti (pronounced [ʋɔu̯ˈtʃaːnski ˈɾuːti]) is a dispersed settlement in the hills to the south of Volče in the Municipality of Tolmin in the Littoral region of Slovenia, close to the border with Italy.The local church is dedicated to Saint Florian and belongs to the Parish of Volče.
