Gordon Head is a seaside neighbourhood in the municipality of Saanich in Greater Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Gordon Head lies north of McKenzie Avenue and east of the Blenkinsop Valley. The University of Victoria is located partly within Gordon Head along the southeast boundary. Finnerty Road separates Gordon Head from the adjacent neighbourhood of Cadboro Bay. The local area is dominated physically by Mount Douglas (SENĆOŦEN: PKOLS), a coastline along Haro Strait, and the central plateau.

Mount Douglas Secondary School is a four-year public secondary school located in Saanich, British Columbia, Canada, with around 1,200 students on roll. The school is part of the Greater Victoria School District (SD61), and is known locally as "Mount Doug". In 2003, the school changed from a Senior Secondary model, teaching grades 11 and 12, back to the current and original grades 9 to 12 structure. The school was founded in 1931, and over the years has occupied several buildings beginning at the current Cedar Hill Middle School Campus. In 1970, it relocated to the former Gordon Head Junior Secondary School building after that school relocated to the newly constructed Arbutus Middle School campus.

Centennial Stadium is a stadium located on the campus of the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The facility was built as a 1967 Canadian Centennial project to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Canadian confederation.The original seating capacity was 3,000. The venue was renovated and temporarily expanded to 30,000 seats to serve as the main stadium of the 1994 Commonwealth Games. After the Commonwealth Games, the temporary seats were removed, leaving 2,000 new seats opposite the main grandstand for a total of 5,000 seats. The stadium features a 400m synthetic rubberized track surface, as well as separate areas for long jump/triple jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, hammer, shot put, and javelin. Inside the track is a natural grass field for sports such as football and soccer. Centennial Stadium is the home of the Victoria Vikes soccer team of U Sports Canada, and Victoria Highlanders FC of League1 British Columbia. It was also used as a soccer venue for the 2002 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship.

On June 28, 2022, a shootout occurred between two gunmen and responding police officers following a robbery of a Bank of Montreal branch in Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. Both gunmen, later identified as twin brothers Mathew and Isaac Auchterlonie, were killed by police, while six officers were injured, three of them severely. Following an investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, it was alleged that the robbery had been staged as a means of drawing police officers into an armed confrontation. The Auchterlonie brothers had been motived by Canadian sentiment and an opposition to government firearms. The bank was selected at random by the brothers after they abandoned a larger attack planned for 2023.

Mount Douglas (SENĆOŦEN: pq̕áls or PKOLS, usually referred to as Mount Doug by locals) is a prominent, 225 m (738 ft) hill in Saanich, Greater Victoria, British Columbia. It is located in Mount Douglas Park in the municipality of Saanich on the ancestral lands of the Saanich and Songhees people. Little Mount Douglas or Little Mount Doug is a smaller secondary peak about 150 m (492 ft) west of the main peak.

Mount Tolmie, elevation 120 m (394 ft), is a small mountain and surrounding neighbourhood in Saanich, Greater Victoria, British Columbia. It is located on the ancestral lands of the Saanich and Songhees people. The majority of the mountain forms Mount Tolmie Park, a municipal park, while the south side has several private residences. The peak of the mountain is known for its excellent views of Victoria, the Olympic Mountains, and the San Juan Islands.

Finnerty Gardens is a public woodland garden located on and maintained by the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Its main feature is the sizeable collection of rhododendrons artfully arranged throughout the 2.7 hectare (6.5 acre) site. There are 500 variations of rhododendrons and rhododendron hybrids on the grounds, in addition to 1,600 trees and shrubs, mostly of native varieties. There are numerous paths and benches throughout the garden winding through and around three ponds located on the site.

CFUV-FM is a campus/community radio station broadcasting on 101.9 FM in British Columbia, Canada. It serves the University of Victoria, Greater Victoria and, via cable, Vancouver Island and many areas in the Lower Mainland. It is owned and run by the University of Victoria Student Radio Society.CKVC, the precursor to CFUV was on air from 1965 until 1970 and had a broadcast range that included the Student Union Building as well as two student residence buildings. The campus radio returned in 1981 after the UVic Campus Radio Club formed. CFUV became Victoria's second FM radio station on December 17, 1984, broadcasting at 49.4 watts on 105.1 FM. In 1987 CFUV aimed to increase its transmission power to over 2000 watts. Approval was granted by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in September 1988; in January 1989, CFUV started broadcasting on 101.9 FM at 2290 watts. Concurrently, CFUV arranged cable broadcast all over Vancouver Island (in most areas cable 104.3 FM). CFUV is a not-for-profit, non-commercial, volunteer-based radio station. It is a member of the National Campus and Community Radio Association, and hosted the National Campus and Community Radio Conference in 1998 and 2014. CFUV is funded mainly by a levy on undergraduate studies at the University of Victoria, as well as by donations. CFUV's mandate indicates that the station is focused on: providing opportunities for University of Victoria and community members to train in broadcasting and operating a radio station; providing informative, innovative, and alternative radio programming; and promoting Canadian and local artists through its broadcasting and related activities. Its programming is composed of spoken word (news, public affairs, poetry), music (rock, hip-hop, jazz, folk), and multicultural programs (in Finnish, Italian, etc.). Offbeat Magazine, CFUV's listings guide, was delivered around Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, but is now defunct.

The University of Victoria (UVic or Victoria) is a public research university located in the municipalities of Oak Bay and Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. The university traces its roots to Victoria College, the first post-secondary institution established in the province of British Columbia in 1903. It was reincorporated as the University of Victoria in 1963.UVic hosts Ocean Networks Canada's deep-water seafloor research observatories VENUS and NEPTUNE, the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions, and two Environment Canada labs: the Canadian Center for Climate Modelling and Analysis and the Water and Climate Impacts Research Centre. The Ocean Climate Building housed at the Queenswood location is dedicated solely to ocean and climate research. The Institute of Integrated Energy Systems is a leading center for research on sustainable energy solutions and alternative energy sources. The University of Victoria is also home to Canada's first and only Indigenous Law degree program along with dedicated research centers for Indigenous and Environmental law. The Faculty of Law was instrumental in the establishment of the Akitsiraq Law School by founding its first class in Iqualit, Nunavat. Along with The University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, UVic jointly founded and co-operates TRIUMF, Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, which houses the world's largest cyclotron. Altogether UVic operates nine academic faculties and schools including the Faculty of Law and Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. The campus is situated 7 km north of downtown Victoria and is spread over 403 acres. UVic also has an offsite study center at the Jeanne S. Simpson Field Studies Resource Center in Lake Cowichan. The six-hectare Queenswood campus was acquired from the Sisters of St. Ann and converted into a national laboratory. The Legacy Art Gallery on Yates Street and a proposed redevelopment on Broad Street make up the properties owned by the university in downtown Victoria. Based in the capital city of British Columbia, the university has educated many prominent jurists and politicians including Jody Wilson-Raybould, Rona Ambrose, and Russell Brown. In recent years, the university counts amongst its alumni the founders of several leading technology companies, including Flickr, Slack, and Hootsuite. UVic alumni and faculty have also worked on Nobel Prize winning research teams. As of 2020, 7 Guggenheim Fellows, 3 Killiam Prize winners, 14 members of the Order of Canada, 11 Rhodes Scholars and 43 Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada have been affiliated with the university.

St. Michaels University School (abbreviated SMU or more commonly, SMUS) is a private day and boarding school in the municipality of Saanich, the largest and most populous municipality in the Capital Regional District and Vancouver Island. Previous headmasters include Robert Snowden (1995-2017), David Penaluna (1988–94) and John Shaffter (1977–88).

Reynolds Secondary School is a public secondary school in the Greater Victoria suburb of Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. The school is known for its numerous specialized programs including Flexible Studies, French immersion, Robotics club, Band, and its Centre for Soccer Excellence. Reynolds also offers many career planning programs such as CP Theatre, CP Art, CP Recreation, CP Tourism, CP Journalism and co-op. Reynolds is an active supporter of the Cops for Cancer fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. The school holds various fundraisers such as car washes, head shaves, and bake sales to raise money for the cause. In 2010, students and staff raised over $52,000, $80,000 in 2011 and over $100,000 in 2012.

Spectrum Community School is a high school in the Greater Victoria suburb of Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. It is part of the Greater Victoria School District and serves the western portion of the district. Spectrum was established in 1974 as a replacement for Mount View High School and the school moved into the new facility in 1976. In 2005 a $5.5 million addition and renovation was completed. There are four computer labs and an active interactive whiteboard resources program. The school has an Aboriginal Nations Education program and accepts international students from the Victoria International High School program. The school's auditorium is a venue for the Greater Victoria Performing Arts festival. In 2006 students voted to select a team name and the nickname "Thunder" was chosen.
