Nettetal is a municipality in the district of Viersen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated in the Lower Rhine region.

Grefrath (German pronunciation: [ˈɡʁeːfʁaːt]) is a municipality in the district of Viersen, in the western part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated in the Lower Rhineland region (German: Niederhein), which is located between the river Rhine and the borderline between Germany and the Netherlands.

Leuth is a village in North Rhine-Westphalia on the Dutch border in the district of Viersen. It is the smallest part of the municipality of Nettetal and has approximately 2000 inhabitants. Its historical origin lies in the early Middle Ages (before the year 1000).

Kaldenkirchen station is the railway station on the Viersen–Venlo railway in the municipality of Kaldenkirchen, itself a town part of Nettetal in the Viersen district in western Germany. Between 1867 and 1999 it was also on the now closed Kempen–Venlo railway It is situated at the far western end of the Viersen to Venlo line, about three kilometers away from the Dutch border. In former times, it saw some high-profile traffic due to border regulations, but has largely fallen into disuse since the Schengen agreement has become effective. It is still pending renovation.

Dülken is a town located in the North Rhine-Westphalia state of Germany. It has a population of about 20,000. It is a borough of the municipality of Viersen. It received its town charter in 1364 thus being the oldest part of the municipality of Viersen. It lies in the administrative region of Düsseldorf. The river Nette having its source underground in the middle of the town rises near the town. The town motto is, "Gloria tibi Duelken", or "Glory to you, Duelken".

The Dülkener Schöppenmarkt (i. e. „Shovel Fair“) in Dülken is one of the largest and oldest country-fairs or Krammärkte in Western Germany.

Wankum is a part of Wachtendonk in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its location, near the A40 autobahn close to the border with The Netherlands, is infamous with British motorists who pass the sign to the Wankum exit shortly after entering Germany and view the name with amusement (sometimes photographing it) due to its two syllables in written appearance. The first is a British slang term for masturbation and the second may be delivered in speech as a colloquial version of them. Wankum is not far from the municipality called Titz. At one time, probably the most used petrol station in Germany was in Wankum. British troops serving in Germany may purchase a ration of fuel coupons to buy discounted fuel. However, these coupons are only redeemable at certain petrol stations (Shell, BP and Aral). Wankum was the last station before the Dutch border to accept petrol coupons; however they no longer do.

Kanal III3b is a drainage canal of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It discharges into the Niers near Grefrath.

The Venlo incident, was a covert operation carried out by the German Nazi Party's Sicherheitsdienst (SD) on 9 November 1939, which resulted in the capture of two British Secret Intelligence Service agents five metres (16 ft) from the German border, on the outskirts of the Dutch city of Venlo.: 14–47 The incident was later used by the German government to link Britain to Georg Elser's failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler at the Bürgerbräukeller in Munich, on 8 November 1939, and to help justify Germany's invasion of the Netherlands (then a neutral country) on 10 May 1940.
