Llannerch (sometimes spelled Llanerch) was a commote in the cantref of Dyffryn Clwyd which later became the Marcher Lordship of Ruthin. Situated in an area south of Ruthin the commote covered an area of 9,000 acres (14 sq mi; 3,600 ha) which included the parishes of Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd and Llanelidan and 19 townships. Much of the land within the commote was owned by the Bishopric of Bangor.The commote was abolished when the English system of counties was introduced to north Wales under the provisions of the Act of Union 1536 and the area became part of the county of Denbighshire. Llannerch is known as the home of the poet, Gruffydd ap Ieuan ap Llywelyn Fychan. He had four children including the poets Catrin ferch Gruffudd ap Ieuan ap Llywelyn Fychan and Alis ferch Gruffudd ab Ieuan ap Llywelyn Fychan, known as Alis Wen. The name was maintained with the building of Llannerch Hall in the 16th century.

Efenechtyd (Welsh: Efenechdyd) is a hamlet and community in a deep valley in Denbighshire, Wales which contains the Church of St Michael and All Angels. The community includes the village of Pwllglas. Efenechtyd is also the name of an electoral ward.

Eyarth railway station served the village of Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd in Denbighshire, Wales, between the years of 1864 and 1962. It is located west off an unnamed minor road of off Wrexham road south of Ruthin (grid reference SJ 131557). It had one platform and a goods loop at the end. The station house is now a Bed and Breakfast and part of the platform still exists,

Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd is a village and community in Denbighshire, Wales, situated in the Vale of Clwyd about one mile south of the town of Ruthin. In the 2001 census, it had 1048 residents and 50.6% of them could speak Welsh. The figures for the 2011 census were: population 1,053; Welsh speakers 46.9%. The age group with the highest percentage of Welsh speakers was the 15-year-olds, all of whom could speak it. The villages of Pentrecelyn and Graig Fechan are located in the community.

Afon y Maes is a tributary river to the Clwyd and flows through the village of Llanelidan, Denbighshire, Wales. The river starts to the south of the village and joins up to the Clwyd on land behind Nantclwyd Hall, and therefore it is a relatively short river that starts and ends in the same town.

Llanfwrog is a village in Denbighshire, in northern Wales. It hosts a church, Llanfwrog Church of St Mwrog and St Mary. The sturdy medieval tower of St Mwrog's crowns the hill west of Ruthin, marking the point where town gives way to countryside. ‘Double-naved’ in the distinctive Clwydian style, the church is late medieval, but was much altered by Victorian restoration. The church was again restored in 1999. There are fine views from the circular 'Celtic' churchyard – St Mwrog was a little-known Welsh saint, perhaps from Anglesey. On a rise to the south by the road to Efenechtyd stands an ancient thatched and whitewashed house (private).The church is generally open daily, from mid-morning to late afternoon.

Nantclwyd Hall is a 17th-century Grade II* listed mansion near the village of Llanelidan, Denbighshire, Wales, built by the Parry family, and rebuilt by Eubule Thelwall (c. 1622–95) and his wife Mary Parry, the heiress of the estate.

Ruthin Castle (Welsh: Castell Rhuthun) is a medieval castle fortification in Wales, near the town of Ruthin in the Vale of Clwyd. It was constructed during the late 13th century by Dafydd ap Gruffydd, the brother of Prince Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, on a red sandstone ridge overlooking the valley. Part of the ancient walls still remain and now form part of the Ruthin Castle Hotel.

The Old Mill, Ruthin, Denbighshire, North Wales was designated Grade II listed building on the 24 October 1950; the mill probably dates from around 1300. The Warden of Ruthin, the early 19th century, Archdeacon Newcome, noted that the building had been used as a garrison chapel. There are two early English pointed arches and one gable end has a blocked lancet window, with a sunken cross above. The watermill was removed from the mill during the 1950s and Mill St runs to the side of the old mill.

The Morning Star (or The Star Inn), Ruthin was listed as a Grade II building on 16 May 1978. It is directly opposite the Ruthin Gaol, and is claimed to be the oldest pub in Ruthin.Early in 2010 a cache of old documents was discovered in the roof of the Morning Star. They were four very dirty, tightly screwed up bundles of papers giving detail on the business of an alehouse and on ordinary life in early Victorian Ruthin. They are about John Williams who was the last of five family members to hold the licence for the Star in the early nineteenth century. The Star was originally built in 1639, as a lobby-entrance building with integral rear wing. The inn was known as the "North Pole" in 1756 with James Edwards bricklayer as the licensee; it became the "Star" in 1775 with Richard Percival, also a bricklayer, as the licensee. Finally it was renamed the Morning Star in 2010. An 1845 description mentions that the public areas were at the front of the building, with a bar and a parlour either side of the lobby entrance. Behind these was a kitchen and a brewhouse and pantry to the rear. A cellar lay below the public areas. Upstairs, there were four bedrooms, above which were lofts intended for the Star's servants.

Nos.33, 35 & 37 Clwyd Street, Ruthin is a C16 timber framed grade II building in Ruthin, Denbighshire, which was listed on 16 May 1978 by Cadw (Cadw Building ID: 87299). Today, it is used as a hop. Now a shopping precinct this building dates back to the 15th Century with examples of wattle and daub just inside the building on the right hand side. The building was remodelled in the early 19th century when it became the "Cross Key's Coaching Inn" serving the Ruthin to Chester route with a change of horses in Mold and last licensed in 1905. It later became a temperance commercial hotel and was home to one of the three Ruthin Friendly Societies which were groups of male workers of similar background who contributed small amounts of money on a weekly basis for insurance against injury and old age. At a later date it was the offices of Ruthin Rural District Council. The official hangman, Sam Burrows, stayed here in 1824 for several nights to prepare for the execution of an Irish highwayman, John Connor.

Nantclwyd y Dre (previously known as Tŷ Nantclwyd) is a Grade 1 listed house in Ruthin, Denbighshire. It is Wales's oldest dated timbered town house, and is owned by the county and open to the public as a historic house museum.
