Ruthin Castle

Nos.33, 35 & 37 Clwyd Street, Ruthin is a C16 timber framed grade II building in Ruthin, Denbighshire, which was listed on 16 May 1978 by Cadw (Cadw Building ID: 87299). Today, it is used as a hop. Now a shopping precinct this building dates back to the 15th Century with examples of wattle and daub just inside the building on the right hand side. The building was remodelled in the early 19th century when it became the "Cross Key's Coaching Inn" serving the Ruthin to Chester route with a change of horses in Mold and last licensed in 1905. It later became a temperance commercial hotel and was home to one of the three Ruthin Friendly Societies which were groups of male workers of similar background who contributed small amounts of money on a weekly basis for insurance against injury and old age. At a later date it was the offices of Ruthin Rural District Council. The official hangman, Sam Burrows, stayed here in 1824 for several nights to prepare for the execution of an Irish highwayman, John Connor.

Nantclwyd y Dre (previously known as Tŷ Nantclwyd) is a Grade 1 listed house in Ruthin, Denbighshire. It is Wales's oldest dated timbered town house, and is owned by the county and open to the public as a historic house museum.

The Morning Star (or The Star Inn), Ruthin was listed as a Grade II building on 16 May 1978. It is directly opposite the Ruthin Gaol, and is claimed to be the oldest pub in Ruthin.Early in 2010 a cache of old documents was discovered in the roof of the Morning Star. They were four very dirty, tightly screwed up bundles of papers giving detail on the business of an alehouse and on ordinary life in early Victorian Ruthin. They are about John Williams who was the last of five family members to hold the licence for the Star in the early nineteenth century. The Star was originally built in 1639, as a lobby-entrance building with integral rear wing. The inn was known as the "North Pole" in 1756 with James Edwards bricklayer as the licensee; it became the "Star" in 1775 with Richard Percival, also a bricklayer, as the licensee. Finally it was renamed the Morning Star in 2010. An 1845 description mentions that the public areas were at the front of the building, with a bar and a parlour either side of the lobby entrance. Behind these was a kitchen and a brewhouse and pantry to the rear. A cellar lay below the public areas. Upstairs, there were four bedrooms, above which were lofts intended for the Star's servants.

The Old Mill, Ruthin, Denbighshire, North Wales was designated Grade II listed building on the 24 October 1950; the mill probably dates from around 1300. The Warden of Ruthin, the early 19th century, Archdeacon Newcome, noted that the building had been used as a garrison chapel. There are two early English pointed arches and one gable end has a blocked lancet window, with a sunken cross above. The watermill was removed from the mill during the 1950s and Mill St runs to the side of the old mill.

Maen Huail is a stone block at St Peter's Square, in the centre of Ruthin, Denbighshire, North Wales. A circular plaque next to it states "Maen Huail on which tradition states, King Arthur beheaded Huail, brother of Gildas the historian". The stone was recorded in 1699 as being in the middle of the road, and now stands on a concrete plinth against the half-timbered wall of the Barclays Bank building, a 20th-century copy of the now mainly destroyed Exmewe Hall.The legend probably originated as an oral tradition, and is first recorded in the Chronicle of Six Ages of the World by Elis Gruffydd, dating to around 1550. The stone itself is thought more likely to be a market or civic stone, or a preaching stone. It is a craggy and heavily weathered limestone boulder, measuring 1.2 metres (3.9 ft) long, and some 0.6 metres (2.0 ft) high and wide.

Siop Nain is a Grade II Listed Building situated near the centre of Ruthin, Denbighshire and dates back to 1490. From 1850 Isaac Clarke used a building at the back as a print shop, which is most notable for the first printing of the National Anthem of Wales: Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. Around 1850 he set up his own business at 6 Well Street, Ruthin. "Siop Nain" is also known as 6 Well Street.It has been listed "for its special architectural interest as a sub-medieval timber-framed building retaining early character and detail, with some good C17 and C19 detail. The printing of the Welsh National Anthem here is of additional historic interest. Group value with surrounding listed buildings in Well Street."It is now a licensed restaurant and a card and gift shop selling English and Welsh language gifts and cards.

Peers Memorial is in St Peter's Square, Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales. It is designated by Cadw as a Grade II listed building.

Ruthin ( RITH-in; Welsh: Rhuthun) is a market town and community in Denbighshire, Wales, in the south of the Vale of Clwyd. It is Denbighshire's county town. The town, castle and St Peter's Square lie on a hill, skirted by villages such as Pwllglas and Rhewl. The name comes from the Welsh rhudd (red) and din (fort), after the colour of sandstone bedrock, from which the castle was built in 1277–1284. The Old Mill, Ruthin, is nearby. Maen Huail, a registered ancient monument attributed to the brother of Gildas and King Arthur, stands in St Peter's Square.

The Collegiate and Parochial Church of St Peter is the Anglican parish church of Ruthin, an ancient market town which lies within the Vale of Clwyd in Denbighshire, north east Wales. It is a greater church of the diocese of St Asaph and a Grade I listed building.

Ruthin Town Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Rhuthun) is a municipal facility in Market Street, Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales. It is a Grade II listed building.

County Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Sir Rhuthun) is a municipal building in Wynnstay Road, Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales. The structure is the headquarters of Denbighshire County Council.

Ruthin Gaol (Welsh: Carchar Rhuthun) is a Pentonville style prison in Ruthin, Denbighshire. Ruthin Gaol ceased to be a prison in 1916 when the prisoners and guards were transferred to Shrewsbury. The County Council bought the buildings in 1926 and used part of them for offices, the county archives, and the town library. During the Second World War the prison buildings were used as a munitions factory, before being handed back to the County Council, when it was the headquarters of the Denbighshire Library Service. In 2004 the Gaol was extensively renovated and reopened as a museum.
