Compton Castle

Marldon is a village in the South Hams in Devon, United Kingdom, to the north-west of Paignton. It is the most northeasterly Civil Parish in the South Hams and includes the village of Compton with Compton Castle. Beacon Hill transmitting station is on the highest point in the parish.

North Whilborough is a village in Teignbridge, Devon, England in the parish of Kingskerswell. It is near the seaside resort of Torquay.

Occombe Valley Woods is a Local Nature Reserve near Paignton in Devon. It is an ancient woodland owned by Torbay Borough Council, and managed by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust.

Paignton Windmill, also known as Fernicombe Windmill, is a late 18th-century windmill situated on the outskirts of the town of Paignton, Devon, England. It is a Grade II Listed Building, and lies in a partially ruinous state.

The Beacon Hill transmitting station is an English telecommunications facility located at Beacon Hill, Marldon, Devon. It includes a guyed mast (Beacon Hill A) and a free-standing lattice tower (Beacon Hill B), both of which support various antennas.

Preston is a suburb located in the northern part of Paignton in Devon. Preston is a popular destination for family holidays and has two main beaches; Hollicombe, a red sandy beach with cliffs and rock pools, and Preston Sands with rock pools, beach huts and facilities. At low tide it is possible to walk between Preston Sands and the adjoining beaches at Paignton. The ward population at the 2011 census was 10,924.Preston had a railway station called Preston Platform briefly between 1911 and 1914. The entrance to the platform (now bricked up with grey breeze blocks) can be found on the footpath that runs in a northerly direction below the railway bridge at the bottom of Seaway Road. Preston Platform was the only halt ever built between the Torquay and Paignton railway stations. The main road through Preston is the A3022 (formerly A379) with Stagecoach service 12 operating every 10 minutes between Brixham and Newton Abbot. On the edge of the district is Oldway Mansion, built for the Singer family and later home to the Torbay Council offices. After an aborted attempt to sell the building, the Mansion remains in Council hands but as of November 2020 is closed to the public. However the gardens remain freely available for exploring. Preston has a primary school, Preston Primary, which technically is in the Livermead suburb of Torquay, with the boundary between the towns of Paignton and Torquay running through the school grounds. St Paul's Church was built in 1938–39 to the designs of Nugent Cachemaille-Day.

Kingskerswell (formerly Kings Carswell, or Kings Kerswell) is a village and civil parish within Teignbridge local government district in the south of Devon, England. The village grew up where an ancient track took the narrowest point across a marshy valley and it is of ancient foundation, being mentioned in the Domesday Book. It has a church dating back to the 14th century and the ruins of a manor house of similar date. The coming of the railway in the 1840s had a large effect on the village, starting its conversion into a commuter town. The village is a major part of the electoral ward called Kerswell-with-Combe. This ward had a population of 5,679 at the 2011 census.It was situated on a busy main road, part of the A380, between Torquay and Newton Abbot until the opening of the South Devon Highway in December 2015. There had been proposals to reroute this road to relieve the traffic bottleneck since 1951.

Cockington Court, near Torquay in Devon, England, is Grade II* listed on the English Heritage Register. The manor dates back to Saxon times, and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The current house was built in the 16th century, when it was owned by the Cary family. Today it is a craft centre and a venue for special events.

Shiphay is a district in the north of Torquay. It has population of about 6,000 and is the location of two grammar schools, three primary schools, the District Hospital, also of Torquay’s fire station. The ward is called Shiphay-with-the-Willows and at the 2011 census had a population of 9,525. Being mostly built-up there is little to attract the tourist, though Cockington and other attractions are within easy reach. The name is said to be from Saxon origin, meaning "sheep enclosure", the original hamlet being at the boundary of the sheep rearing lands of Torre Abbey. The area itself has also been a pig farm and a quarry. Until after World War I it was a small hamlet, so small that it did not even rate a mention in the Topographical Dictionary of England, 1831. The oldest properties in the district are the thatched cottages in Water Lane, several of which had connections with smugglers. Shiphay Manor, seat of the Kitson family is described in a separate article. Shiphay is a more affluent area of Torbay with a higher-than-average level of professional, married, and well-educated individuals.

Cockington is a village near Torquay in the English county of Devon. It has old cottages within its boundaries, and is about a half a mile away from Torquay. Bus service 62 (Torquay circular) calls at the village five times per day (Mon-Fri) and is operated by Torbay Buses.

The Church of St Mary, in the village of Collaton St Mary in Devon, was built between 1864 and 1866 in memory of Mary Maxwell Hogg, teenaged daughter of the Rev John Roughton Hogg, owner of the nearby Blagdon Barton estate, and granddaughter of hymnwriter and vicar Henry Francis Lyte. It is a Grade II* listed building.
