USS Hornet (CV-12)

The USS Hornet Museum is a museum ship, located on the southernmost pier of the former Naval Air Station Alameda in Alameda, California, US. The museum is composed of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet, exhibits from the NASA Apollo Moon exploration missions, and several retired aircraft from the Second World War and the transonic and early supersonic jet propulsion period. A number of compartments contain exhibits concerning contemporary carriers that are supported by related associations. The flight deck, hangar deck, and first deck below are open for self-guided tours. Docent-led tours are available into the ship's navigation and flight deck control areas of the island and down into one of the engineering spaces containing two of the four ship's propulsion turbines.

Pacific Reserve Fleet, Alameda was a part of the United States Navy reserve fleets, also called a mothball fleet, that was used to store the many surplus ships after World War II. The Pacific Reserve Fleet, Alameda was part of the former Naval Air Station Alameda in Alameda, California, in the San Francisco Bay. Some ships in the fleet were reactivated for the Korean War and Vietnam War.The site today is the USS Hornet Museum, home of the USS Hornet that opened in 1998 and, from 1976, home of the Ready Reserve Fleet, of the Ready Reserve Force, managed by United States Maritime Administration (MARAD).

The China Clipper flight departure site is listed as California Historical Landmark number 968. It is the site from which Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) initiated trans-Pacific airmail service on November 22, 1935. A flying boat named China Clipper made the first trip, and the publicity for that flight caused all flying boats on that air route to become popularly known as China Clippers. Alternative in Action High School (formally known as the Bay Area School of Enterprise) is a charter high school founded in 2001 in Alameda, California. It is the first youth-created charter high school in the United States. It was created by 10 youth and 2 adults working in the afterschool program HOME Project to create a school for non traditional students. BASE is a public charter school in the Alameda Unified School District. Entirely project-based, students participate in regular projects called "enterprises," including a major "enterprise" in humanities each year.

Woodstock is a neighborhood in Alameda in Alameda County, California. It lies at an elevation of 13 feet (4 m). It was one of the original three settlements on Alameda island out of which the city of Alameda was formed in 1853.

Alameda Point is the name given to the lands of the former Naval Air Station Alameda in the City of Alameda, California. Alameda Point consists of 1,560 acres (6.3 km2) of land area at the western end of the island of Alameda. Most of the land was reclaimed from the San Francisco Bay. NAS Alameda was identified for closure under the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Program in 1993, and ceased operation in April 1997. An agreement between the Navy and the City of Alameda for transferring the land to the City for future development was reached in 2006. One of the larger issues between the Navy and the City has been paying the costs of the environmental cleanup required. Prior to the transfer, some of the facilities of the former base have been leased to private tenants and the City of Alameda. The Alameda Point beach is one of the cleanest in the state. Alameda Point has a number of film sites. Beginning in late 2006 the Mythbusters began to test various experiments on the former runway while in 2009, NBC's Trauma staged a plane crash.

Naval Air Station Alameda (NAS Alameda) was a United States Navy Naval Air Station in Alameda, California, on San Francisco Bay.NAS Alameda had two runways: 13–31 measuring 8,000 ft × 200 ft (2,438 m × 61 m) and 07-25 measuring 7,200 ft × 200 ft (2,195 m × 61 m). Two helicopter pads and a control tower were also part of the facilities.
