Île Ronde, Brest

The roadstead of Brest (French: rade de Brest, French pronunciation: ​[ʁad də bʁɛst]; Breton: Lenn-vor Brest) is a roadstead or bay located in the Finistère department in Brittany in northwestern France. The surface area is about 180 km² (70 sq mi). The port of Brest and one of the two French naval bases, Brest Arsenal, are located on its northern edge. It is linked to the Atlantic Ocean (called the Iroise Sea at this point) by the Goulet de Brest, a strait about 1.8 km wide. Three main rivers drain into the roadstead: the Penfeld (the town of Brest and the first buildings of the naval base were built on its banks), the Élorn (or river of Landerneau) and the Aulne (or river of Châteaulin).

Lanvéoc (French pronunciation: [lɑ̃veɔk]; Breton: Lañveog) is a commune in the Finistère department of Brittany in north-western France. The École Navale, the French naval academy, is located here.

Île Longue (French for "Long Island") is a peninsula of the roadstead of Brest in the department of Finistère in the Brittany region. It is the base of the SNLE, the French ballistic missile submarines, and as such one of the most secretive and heavily defended places in France.

The Penfeld (French pronunciation: ​[pɛ̃fɛl]; Breton: Penfell) is a 16 km (9.9 mi) French coastal river. The town of Brest, in Finistère, has grown up on its left (east) bank.

The arrondissement of Brest, sometimes referred to as greater Brest, or the greater Brest region, is an arrondissement of France in the Finistère department in the Brittany region. It has 77 communes. Its population is 374,276 (2016), and its area is 1,396.2 km2 (539.1 sq mi).

The Naval Academy Research Institute (IRENav) is a multidisciplinary research and scientific training center under the institutional umbrella of the École navale and the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers. Created in 2000, IRENav is labeled (EA3634) within the framework of the laboratories of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers and evaluated by the HCERES (Haut Conseil de l’évaluation de la recherche et de l’enseignement supérieur). It is also a member of the Institut Carnot Arts, a major research network that drives industrial innovation at the national level. IRENAV develops maritime and naval research activities in the fields of mechanical engineering, energy conversion and maritime information systems and underwater acoustics. IRENav is the essential support for the scientific training of Naval Engineering student cadets in the fields of Mechanics, Energy, Underwater Acoustics, Signal Processing, Computer Science and Information Systems. It is made up of about 65 research and teaching members of staff, including 25 academics and post-doctoral researchers, about 25 PhD students and 15 technical and administrative support. The institute's activities are intended to be dual, addressing both military and civilian research problems in the context of the ship of the future. Research activities are oriented towards mechanics and energy from a hydrodynamic and electrotechnical point of view, observation of the marine environment using underwater acoustic techniques (ASM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The research is conducted by two groups.

The École navale is the French naval academy, in charge of the education of the officers of the French Navy. They are educated at the academy for responsibilities onboard surface ships and submarines, in French Naval Aviation, with the fusiliers marins and commandos, and on the general staff. The École navale and its research institute (IRENAV) are in Lanvéoc-Poulmic, south of the roadstead of Brest.

The Château de Brest (Breton: Kastell Brest) is a castle in Brest, Finistère, France. The oldest monument in the town, it is located at the mouth of the river Penfeld at the heart of the roadstead of Brest, one of the largest roadsteads in the world. From the Roman castellum to Vauban's citadel, the site has over 1700 years of history, holding right up to the present day its original role as a military fortress and a strategic location of the highest importance. It is thus the oldest castle in the world still in use, and was classified as a monument historique on 21 March 1923.The structure's heterogeneous architecture has been the result of continual adaptations to developments in siege warfare and armament on land and sea. The château stands on the opposite bank to the Tour Tanguy combining to defend the entrance to the Penfeld.

Brest station (French: Gare de Brest) is the railway station serving Brest, France. It is the western terminus of the Paris–Brest railway. The new station, built above the town's harbour in 1932 on the site of its 1865 predecessor, includes a tall clock tower and a semi circle passenger hall. The current building of 1932, by the CF de l'Etat, replaces the older building built in 1865 by the CF de l'Ouest. The station saw the arrival of the TGV Atlantique in 1990 but saw little changes to its structure. Brest is linked to Rennes and Paris as well as regional (TER) services to Brittany including Quimper, Landerneau, Morlaix and Lannion (via Plouaret-Trégor). TGV trains to Paris take approximately less than three and a half hours to reach the capital.

The Parc naturel régional d'Armorique (Breton: Park an Arvorig), or Armorica Regional Natural Park, is a rural protected area located in Brittany. The park land reaches from the Atlantic Ocean to hilly inland countryside. There are sandy beaches, swamps, strange rocks, fast rivers and the hills of Monts d'Arrée, all blended into one landscape. The park also includes three islands: Île de Sein, Molène and Ouessant.The wildlife of the park is diverse and interesting to naturalists. There are sea birds on the islands, European otters and beavers in the rivers and swamps, and interesting birds of prey. In the marshes lives a species of rare carnivorous plant, the sundew, which captures unwary insects.

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Brest is the main art museum in the city of Brest, Brittany, France, housing French and Italian old masters as well as more modern art. It and most of the city were destroyed by Allied bombing during the Second World War and the building and its collections both had to be recreated in the post-war period,making it what one author has called "the largest collection [of old masters] to have been formed in France since 1945". The museum building was completed in 1968 and is typical of Brest's functional post-war architecture.

Salle Marcel Cerdan is an indoor sporting arena located in Brest, France. The capacity of the arena is 2,000 people. It is currently home to the Étendard de Brest basketball team. The name literally means "Marcel Cerdan Hall". Salle means "hall", i.e., a sports hall, or indoor arena. Marcel Cerdan was a French boxer. In September 2020, the site is in the demolition phase, a residential area will take place on the surface of 1.3 hectares.
