The Parc naturel régional d'Armorique (Breton: Park an Arvorig), or Armorica Regional Natural Park, is a rural protected area located in Brittany. The park land reaches from the Atlantic Ocean to hilly inland countryside. There are sandy beaches, swamps, strange rocks, fast rivers and the hills of Monts d'Arrée, all blended into one landscape. The park also includes three islands: Île de Sein, Molène and Ouessant.The wildlife of the park is diverse and interesting to naturalists. There are sea birds on the islands, European otters and beavers in the rivers and swamps, and interesting birds of prey. In the marshes lives a species of rare carnivorous plant, the sundew, which captures unwary insects.

The Île Ronde (literally Round Island) is a French islet 400 metres (0.25 mi) to the south west of Pointe de l’Armorique, in the roadstead of Brest, within the territory of the commune of Plougastel-Daoulas. Its highest point is 24 m. Facing Île Ronde, on the pointe de l’Armorique, is the fort de la pointe de l’Armorique, built in 1775 for the defense of Brest.

The Naval Academy Research Institute (IRENav) is a multidisciplinary research and scientific training center under the institutional umbrella of the École navale and the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers. Created in 2000, IRENav is labeled (EA3634) within the framework of the laboratories of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers and evaluated by the HCERES (Haut Conseil de l’évaluation de la recherche et de l’enseignement supérieur). It is also a member of the Institut Carnot Arts, a major research network that drives industrial innovation at the national level. IRENAV develops maritime and naval research activities in the fields of mechanical engineering, energy conversion and maritime information systems and underwater acoustics. IRENav is the essential support for the scientific training of Naval Engineering student cadets in the fields of Mechanics, Energy, Underwater Acoustics, Signal Processing, Computer Science and Information Systems. It is made up of about 65 research and teaching members of staff, including 25 academics and post-doctoral researchers, about 25 PhD students and 15 technical and administrative support. The institute's activities are intended to be dual, addressing both military and civilian research problems in the context of the ship of the future. Research activities are oriented towards mechanics and energy from a hydrodynamic and electrotechnical point of view, observation of the marine environment using underwater acoustic techniques (ASM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The research is conducted by two groups.

The École navale is the French naval academy, in charge of the education of the officers of the French Navy. They are educated at the academy for responsibilities onboard surface ships and submarines, in French Naval Aviation, with the fusiliers marins and commandos, and on the general staff. The École navale and its research institute (IRENAV) are in Lanvéoc-Poulmic, south of the roadstead of Brest.

The canton of Crozon is an administrative division of the Finistère department, northwestern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Crozon.It consists of the following communes:

Crozon (French pronunciation: [kʁɔzɔ̃], [kʁozɔ̃]; Breton: Kraozon, [ˈkrɔːzõn], locally [ˈkraõn]) is a commune in the department of Finistère and the administrative region of Brittany, northwestern France. As well as the town of Crozon, the village of Morgat is part of the commune.Crozon is located on the Crozon peninsula on the west coast of Finistère. It is bordered by the communes of Camaret-sur-Mer to the west, Roscanvel to the northwest, Lanvéoc to the north, Landévennec to the north-east and Telgruc-sur-Mer to the east. Crozon is the chef-lieu of the arrondissement of Châteaulin. Louis Jouvet, a French actor, was born in Crozon in 1887. Crozon harbours Île Longue, the base of the French strategic nuclear submarines.

Île Longue (French for "Long Island") is a peninsula of the roadstead of Brest in the department of Finistère in the Brittany region. It is the base of the SNLE, the French ballistic missile submarines, and as such one of the most secretive and heavily defended places in France.

The roadstead of Brest (French: rade de Brest, French pronunciation: ​[ʁad də bʁɛst]; Breton: Lenn-vor Brest) is a roadstead or bay located in the Finistère department in Brittany in northwestern France. The surface area is about 180 km² (70 sq mi). The port of Brest and one of the two French naval bases, Brest Arsenal, are located on its northern edge. It is linked to the Atlantic Ocean (called the Iroise Sea at this point) by the Goulet de Brest, a strait about 1.8 km wide. Three main rivers drain into the roadstead: the Penfeld (the town of Brest and the first buildings of the naval base were built on its banks), the Élorn (or river of Landerneau) and the Aulne (or river of Châteaulin).

Île des Morts (Island of the Dead) is a 7-hectare island in the Bay of Roscanvel, to the south-west of the roadstead of Brest, between the Quélern peninsula and Île Longue. It is 26m above sea level at its highest point.

The Pointe des Espagnols is the north-east extremity of the Roscanvel peninsula, an outgrowth of the Crozon peninsula closing off the roadstead of Brest. It also marks the south-east limit of the goulet de Brest (the other limits are marked by pointe des Capucins, pointe du Petit Minou and pointe du Portzic). Formed by a cliff that is more than 60m high, at whose summit and base are the remains of fortifications and barracks, the point reaches towards the north-east via the rocher de la Cormorandière, marked by a pole. The straight channel situated between the point and the rocher is the location for strong currents which affect the roadstead. This strategic position, facing Brest, was already noted by the Duchy of Brittany, who sited a fortlet there in 1387 (now lost). In 1594, Spaniards landed here and were only dislodged after several battles - it was in this period that the cape first took on its present name.

Roscanvel (French pronunciation: ​[ʁɔskɑ̃vɛl]; Breton: Roskañvel) is a commune in the Finistère department of Brittany in north-western France.

The siege of Fort Crozon or the siege of El Leon was a land and sea engagement that took place as part of Spain's Brittany Campaign late in the French wars of religion and the Anglo-Spanish War (1585–1604). The siege was fought between 1 October and 19 November 1594 and was conducted by English and French troops against a Spanish fort constructed on the Crozon Peninsula near Brest. After a number of assaults were repelled, a Spanish relief force under Juan del Águila attempted to relieve the garrison, but it was delayed by French cavalry and could not reach the garrison in time.An assault by the English using a deceitful ruse ended the siege when the defenders were all but put to the sword. The victory proved decisive in two ways. First, it denied the Spanish an important large independent base and port from which to operate in Brittany against the English and Dutch. Second, the Spanish had lost most of their support from the French Catholic League, and as a result enabled the French king Henry IV to declare war on Spain.
