Dom Hut

The Europa Hut (German: Europahütte) is a mountain hut located in the Mattertal above Randa in the Mischabel range at 2,265 m, owned by the Swiss Alpine Club. It lies on the Grächen-Zermatt high trail, called Europaweg (also part of the Monte Rosa Tour). From the hut a trail leads to the Dom Hut, on the normal route to the Dom. The Europaweg is badly affected by unstable terrain; the entire path is prone to rockfalls and sections are sometimes closed. The section between the Europahütte and Zermatt reopened on 4 July 2010 with the construction of a 230-metre suspension bridge over the Grabengufer ravine, but this has since been closed due to the risk of falling rocks. A new bridge has now replaced the old one and is open to the public. The new Charles Kuonen Bridge is the second-longest hanging pedestrian bridge in the world. The bridge is located around 500 metres southwest of the hut.

The Hohgwächte is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, situated near Randa in Valais. It belong to the Mischabel massif and is located west of the Dom and the Festijoch

The Pennine Alps (German: Walliser Alpen, French: Alpes valaisannes, Italian: Alpi Pennine, Latin: Alpes Poeninae), also known as the Valais Alps, are a mountain range in the western part of the Alps. They are located in Italy (the Aosta Valley and Piedmont) and Switzerland (Valais). The Pennine Alps are amongst the three highest major subranges of the Alps, together with the Bernese Alps and the Mont Blanc massif.

The Matter Valley (German: Mattertal, or sometimes Nikolaital) is located in southwestern Switzerland, south of the Rhone valley in the canton of Valais. The village of Zermatt is the most important settlement of the valley, which is surrounded by many four-thousanders, including the Matterhorn.

The Kinhorn is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, overlooking Täsch in the canton of Valais. It is located on the ridge west of the Täschhorn.

Randa is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is located between the Weisshorn and the Dom in the Matter Valley. The village is accessible by road and rail, and it has a campsite which offers a taxi service to Zermatt, a car-free town. The Glacier Express train line also connects Randa to Zermatt.

Randa railway station (French: Gare de Randa, German: Bahnhof Randa) is a railway station in the municipality of Randa, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is an intermediate stop on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) Brig–Zermatt line and is served by local trains only.

Herbriggen railway station (French: Gare de Herbriggen, German: Bahnhof Herbriggen) is a railway station in the municipality of St. Niklaus, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is an intermediate stop on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) Brig–Zermatt line and is served by local trains only.

The Dom is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, located between Randa and Saas-Fee in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. With a height of 4,545 m (14,911 ft), it is the seventh highest summit in the Alps, overall. Based on prominence, it can be regarded as the third highest mountain in the Alps, and the second highest in Switzerland, after Monte Rosa. The Dom is the main summit of the Mischabel group (German: Mischabelhörner), which is the highest massif lying entirely in Switzerland. The Dom is noteworthy for its 'normal route' of ascent having the greatest vertical height gain of all the alpine 4000 metre peaks, and none of that route's 3,100 metres of height can be achieved using mechanical means.: 114 Although Dom is a German cognate for 'dome', it can also mean 'cathedral' and the mountain is named after Canon Berchtold of Sitten cathedral, the first person to survey the vicinity.The former name Mischabel comes from an ancient German dialect term for pitchfork, as the highest peaks of the massif stand close to each other.

The Täschhorn (4,491 metres (14,734 ft)) is a mountain in the Pennine range of the Alps in Switzerland. There are no easy mountaineering routes to its summit, and it is regarded as being among the top ten 4,000-metre mountains in the Alps for difficulty, and "one of the highest, finest and least accessible 4000m mountains". It lies immediately north of the Alphubel, and south of the Dom within the Mischabel range, and is very similar in shape to the Dom when seen from the upper Zermatt valley.: 118 

The Weingartensee is a small lake located east of Täsch at the foot of the Alphubel, in the Swiss canton of Valais. The lake has a surface area of 0.64 ha and is located at 3,058 metres above sea level. It lies near the bottom of the Weingartengletscher glacier. Following the flood of June 2001, a dam was built and the water level was slightly reduced.

Täsch railway station is a metre gauge railway station serving the municipality of Täsch, in the Canton of Valais, Switzerland. It forms part of the Brig-Visp-Zermatt railway (BVZ), which connects the car-free mountaineering and ski resort of Zermatt with standard gauge lines at Visp (served by SBB-CFF-FFS) and Brig (served by SBB-CFF-FFS and BLS AG). Since 1 January 2003 (2003-01-01), the BVZ has been owned and operated by the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB), following a merger between the BVZ and the Furka Oberalp Bahn (FO). Due to Zermatt's car free status, the MGB has a frequent special shuttle train service between Zermatt and Täsch, where people travelling to and from Zermatt by combustion-engined vehicles are required to park their vehicles. For most of most days, this service operates at 20-minute intervals. The MGB also operates regional services between Zermatt and Brig via Täsch at hourly intervals.Every day, several Glacier Express trains, which are operated at this point by the MGB, pass through Täsch, but do not stop there.
