Dom (mountain)

The Täschhorn (4,491 metres (14,734 ft)) is a mountain in the Pennine range of the Alps in Switzerland. There are no easy mountaineering routes to its summit, and it is regarded as being among the top ten 4,000-metre mountains in the Alps for difficulty, and "one of the highest, finest and least accessible 4000m mountains". It lies immediately north of the Alphubel, and south of the Dom within the Mischabel range, and is very similar in shape to the Dom when seen from the upper Zermatt valley.: 118 

The Hohgwächte is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, situated near Randa in Valais. It belong to the Mischabel massif and is located west of the Dom and the Festijoch

The Pennine Alps (German: Walliser Alpen, French: Alpes valaisannes, Italian: Alpi Pennine, Latin: Alpes Poeninae), also known as the Valais Alps, are a mountain range in the western part of the Alps. They are located in Italy (the Aosta Valley and Piedmont) and Switzerland (Valais). The Pennine Alps are amongst the three highest major subranges of the Alps, together with the Bernese Alps and the Mont Blanc massif.

The Kinhorn is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, overlooking Täsch in the canton of Valais. It is located on the ridge west of the Täschhorn.

The Alphubel (4,206 m) is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, located between the valleys of Zermatt and Saas in the canton of Valais. It is part of the Allalin Group, a subgroup of the Mischabel Group, which culminates at the Dom (4,545 m). The summit of the Alphubel consists of a large ice-covered plateau, part of the Fee Glacier on its east side. The west side of the mountain is more rocky and much steeper. It overlooks the Weingartensee. The nearest settlements are Täsch (north of Zermatt) and Saas-Fee.

The Weingartensee is a small lake located east of Täsch at the foot of the Alphubel, in the Swiss canton of Valais. The lake has a surface area of 0.64 ha and is located at 3,058 metres above sea level. It lies near the bottom of the Weingartengletscher glacier. Following the flood of June 2001, a dam was built and the water level was slightly reduced.

The Dom Hut (German: Domhütte) is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club, located above Randa in the canton of Valais. The hut lies on the western sloped of the Dom, at a height of 2,940 m above sea level, near the bottom of the Festigletscher glacier in the Pennine Alps. The Dom Hut is mainly used as the starting point of the normal route of the Dom. A trail leads to the hut from Randa, crossing the Europaweg near the Europa Hut, and climbs further to the Festigletscher (3,200 m).

The Feechopf is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, located near Saas Fee in the canton of Valais. It lies between the Alphubel and the Allalinhorn.

The Europa Hut (German: Europahütte) is a mountain hut located in the Mattertal above Randa in the Mischabel range at 2,265 m, owned by the Swiss Alpine Club. It lies on the Grächen-Zermatt high trail, called Europaweg (also part of the Monte Rosa Tour). From the hut a trail leads to the Dom Hut, on the normal route to the Dom. The Europaweg is badly affected by unstable terrain; the entire path is prone to rockfalls and sections are sometimes closed. The section between the Europahütte and Zermatt reopened on 4 July 2010 with the construction of a 230-metre suspension bridge over the Grabengufer ravine, but this has since been closed due to the risk of falling rocks. A new bridge has now replaced the old one and is open to the public. The new Charles Kuonen Bridge is the second-longest hanging pedestrian bridge in the world. The bridge is located around 500 metres southwest of the hut.

The Matter Valley (German: Mattertal, or sometimes Nikolaital) is located in southwestern Switzerland, south of the Rhone valley in the canton of Valais. The village of Zermatt is the most important settlement of the valley, which is surrounded by many four-thousanders, including the Matterhorn.

Randa is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is located between the Weisshorn and the Dom in the Matter Valley. The village is accessible by road and rail, and it has a campsite which offers a taxi service to Zermatt, a car-free town. The Glacier Express train line also connects Randa to Zermatt.

Herbriggen railway station (French: Gare de Herbriggen, German: Bahnhof Herbriggen) is a railway station in the municipality of St. Niklaus, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is an intermediate stop on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) Brig–Zermatt line and is served by local trains only.
