Täsch railway station

Täsch is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is located about 5 km (3.1 mi) north of Zermatt. The local language is Swiss German.

The Matter Valley (German: Mattertal, or sometimes Nikolaital) is located in southwestern Switzerland, south of the Rhone valley in the canton of Valais. The village of Zermatt is the most important settlement of the valley, which is surrounded by many four-thousanders, including the Matterhorn.

The Mettelhorn is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, located near Zermatt in the canton of Valais. The Mettelhorn provides excellent acclimatization opportunities, especially if one climbs its sister peaks Platthorn and Wisshorn on the same day. Hiking from Zermatt to the Mettelhorn takes about six hours uphill and four hours downwards. The summit can be reached by almost any active hiker with some mountain experience. The climb to the Mettelhorn begins from Zermatt; hikers start on the Edelweiss path, the path goes through a forest before coming to the Edelweiss Restaurant; this section takes about one hour. The forest section ends here and a wider gorge opens as the path runs past the Triftbach river. There are also plenty of signs with photos about the wildflowers growing on the paths' surroundings. After the Edelweiss, another 90 minutes of hiking leads to the Hotel Trift; the path is easy to follow and scenery rich with a few mountain views. One can see the Unter Gabelhorn mountain on the left side with several smaller peaks. After the Hotel Trift the path veers left towards north east going towards Zinal Rothorn, Platthorn and Mettelhorn mountains. The path going on the Rothornhütte (the SAC hut at the foot of the Zinal Rothorn) turns soon towards off the main path north westwards (all turnings are well signed), and an additional path leads south east towards the Wisshorn. After one hour of ascent from the Hotel Trift the Triftchumme meadow appears, where occasionally sheep graze. At the other side of meadow is the Platthorn. Eventually one comes on the saddle called Furggi pass. From here one can see the Mettelhorn and decide if to climb the Platthorn or to go over the Hohlicht Gletscher glacier first. Going up on the Platthorn takes about 30 minutes. On the north side is the Unter Äschorn and also the Weisshorn can be seen. The Glacier is steep and crampons are recommended, even through the glacier does not provide major difficulties to walk over; the Glacier section takes about 30 minutes. The Mettelhorn has a steep face but can be walked up; scree can give some trouble on the way up. The views from the summit are spectacular. On the top of the mountain one can see more famous mountains like; Weisshorn, Dom, Monte Rosa, the North Face of the Matterhorn, Ober Gabelhorn and Zinal Rothorn.

Randa railway station (French: Gare de Randa, German: Bahnhof Randa) is a railway station in the municipality of Randa, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is an intermediate stop on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) Brig–Zermatt line and is served by local trains only.

Randa is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is located between the Weisshorn and the Dom in the Matter Valley. The village is accessible by road and rail, and it has a campsite which offers a taxi service to Zermatt, a car-free town. The Glacier Express train line also connects Randa to Zermatt.

The Weisshorn Hut (German: Weisshornhütte) is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club, located above Randa in the canton of Valais. It is located on the southern slopes of the Weisshorn, at a height of 2,932 metres above sea level, near the bottom of the Schali Glacier. A trail climbing to the Schali Glacier (3,100 m) connects the Weisshorn Hut to Randa. The hut is mainly used for the ascent of the Weisshorn via the eastern ridge.

The Bösentrift is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, overlooking Täsch and Zermatt in the canton of Valais. It lies north of the Oberrothorn.

The Platthorn is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, located south of Grächen in the canton of Valais. It lies north of the Färichhorn and the Balfrin, on the range between the Mattertal and the Saastal.

The Zermatt–Sunnegga Funicular, also known as the Standseilbahn Zermatt–Sunnegga, or short SunneggaExpress, is an underground funicular railway in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. It links a lower station in the resort village of Zermatt, with an upper station at 2293 m Sunnegga, 698 m above, and forms the first link in the route to the Sunnegga Paradise ski area. The funicular was heavily modernized by Doppelmayr in 2013.The line has the following properties: The funicular is operated by Zermatt Bergbahnen AG since 2002, after it absorded Standseilbahn Zermatt-Sunnegga AG that built it.

The Gornergrat Railway (German: Gornergrat Bahn; GGB) is a mountain rack railway, located in the Swiss canton of Valais. It links the resort village of Zermatt, situated at 1,604 m (5,262 ft) above mean sea level, to the summit of the Gornergrat. The Gornergrat railway station is situated at an altitude of 3,089 m (10,135 ft), which makes the Gornergrat Railway the second highest railway in Europe after the Jungfrau, and the highest open-air railway of the continent. The line opened in 1898, and was the first electric rack railway to be built in Switzerland. The Gornergrat is a starting point for many hikes, as it lies surrounded by 29 peaks rising above 4,000 m (13,123 ft) in the Alps and several glaciers, including the Gorner Glacier (which is billed as the second longest glacier in the Alps). At the end of the line on Gornergrat, the Matterhorn is visible on a clear day. It is also a popular skiing area.The Gornergrat Railway Ltd (Gornergrat Bahn AG) is a wholly owned subsidiary of BVZ Holdings AG, who are also the majority owners of the Matterhorn Gotthard Verkehrs AG, the company that operates the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB), with which the GGB connects in Zermatt.

Zermatt GGB railway station (French: Gare de Zermatt GGB, German: Bahnhof Zermatt GGB) is a railway station in the municipality of Zermatt, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is the northern terminus of 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) Gornergrat Railway and is served by local trains only. The station is across the street from Zermatt railway station, the southern terminus of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn's Brig–Zermatt line.

The Europa Hut (German: Europahütte) is a mountain hut located in the Mattertal above Randa in the Mischabel range at 2,265 m, owned by the Swiss Alpine Club. It lies on the Grächen-Zermatt high trail, called Europaweg (also part of the Monte Rosa Tour). From the hut a trail leads to the Dom Hut, on the normal route to the Dom. The Europaweg is badly affected by unstable terrain; the entire path is prone to rockfalls and sections are sometimes closed. The section between the Europahütte and Zermatt reopened on 4 July 2010 with the construction of a 230-metre suspension bridge over the Grabengufer ravine, but this has since been closed due to the risk of falling rocks. A new bridge has now replaced the old one and is open to the public. The new Charles Kuonen Bridge is the second-longest hanging pedestrian bridge in the world. The bridge is located around 500 metres southwest of the hut.
