Chenocetah Mountain

Chenocetah Fire Tower is a historic fire tower in the Chenocetah Mountains, Cornelia, Georgia, Habersham County, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 11, 1984. The tower was built in 1937 as part of a public works program by the Farm Security Administration's Resettlement Administration in effort to move and employ impoverished farmers. The purpose of the building was to allow fire fighters to spot fires in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

It is home to one of the world's largest apple sculptures, which is displayed on top of an obelisk-shaped monument. Cornelia was the retirement home of baseball legend Ty Cobb who was born nearby, and was a base of operation for production of the 1956 Disney film The Great Locomotive Chase that was filmed along the Tallulah Falls Railway that ran from Cornelia northward along the rim of Tallulah Gorge to Franklin, North Carolina.

Demorest ( DEM-ə-rist) is a city in Habersham County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,022 at the 2020 census, up from 1,823 at the 2010 census, and 1,465 at the 2000 census. It is the home of Piedmont University.

Piedmont University is a private university in Demorest and Athens, Georgia. Founded in 1897, Piedmont's Demorest campus includes 300 acres in a traditional residential-college setting located in the foothills of the northeast Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. Total enrollment is approximately 2,571 students and the campus includes ten dormitories housing more than 720 students.Piedmont College offers more than 50 undergraduate academic programs in the Schools of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, and Nursing & Health Sciences. The Demorest Commercial Historic District is a 2 acres (0.81 ha) historic district in Demorest, Georgia which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. The listing included seven contributing buildings.The district was defined to include "the intact historic commercial buildings and a historic church that remain in the city of Demorest's downtown business district. Demorest is a small city in Habersham County in the northeastern part of the state. The downtown business district is located at the intersection of Georgia Street and Central Avenue (U.S. 441). The buildings in the historic district were constructed from 1890 to 1934 and consist of six commercial buildings and one church."The oldest (1890) building is the "Brick Block" or Starkweather Building, at the intersection of Georgia and Central, a two-story brick building with a stepped parapet and corbeled cornice. In 1989 it held Steffi's Store.The Congregational Church (1908) was designed and built by H. W. Willett.

The Demorest Women's Club is a women's group founded in 1934 by 11 women. The historic building at 1035 Central Avenue in Demorest, Georgia, the group uses was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.The building was built in 1902 and served as the Demorest Methodist Episcopal Church, South from 1902 to 1939, then as the Demorest Methodist Church from 1939 to 1947. It was majorly renovated in 1954 to serve as the Demorest Women's Club. Its historical significance derives from 1954 on.

The Fort Hollingsworth–White House is a well-preserved example of an early frontier fort built near Alto, Georgia in the late 18th century. The fort was built around 1793 by Jacob Hollingsworth on newly opened lands resulting from treaties with the Cherokee Nation, and was meant to protect the settlers in the area. The fort was adapted as a farm residence, principally by the White family, and has passed through generations of owners. It is now operated as a non-profit open-air museum. Fort Hollingsworth was first shown on a map of the Defensive Plan for the Western Frontier, for Franklin County in 1793.
