High Wood, Dunmow is a 41.5-hectare (103-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Great Dunmow in Essex. The local planning authority is Uttlesford District Council.The site on boulder clay and loess has areas of wet ash and maple woodland, and others of pedunculate oak and hornbeam. Some areas are ancient woodland. There is a diverse layer of ground flora, such as dog's mercury and primrose, while damp woodland rides provide additional habitat for birds and invertebrates.The site is private land with no public access.

Royal Air Force Great Dunmow or more simply RAF Great Dunmow is a former Royal Air Force station in the parish of Little Easton, Essex, England. The airfield is located approximately 1.4 miles (2.3 km) mi west of Great Dunmow, north of the A120; about 42 miles (68 km) northeast of London Opened in 1943, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces during the war, primarily as a bomber airfield. The airfield was closed in 1948. Today the airfield is located on private land primarily used for agriculture.

Easton Lodge was a Victorian Gothic style stately home in Little Easton and north-west of Great Dunmow, Essex, England. Once famous for its weekend society gatherings frequented by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), it was one of many country houses destroyed during the 20th century. Part of the west wing (rebuilt as a separate house after a fire in 1918 for use as servants' quarters) still stands; and the Grade II listed gardens designed by Harold Peto are under restoration and opened to the public.

The house is located at Talliston, Newton Green, Great Dunmow, Essex CM6 1DU, United Kingdom.As a child, Trevillian always wanted to live in a castle and when he bought the house in 1990 he set about turning it into his fantasy, with thirteen detailed and themed rooms.In 2014, it was reported that due to financial difficulties Trevillian was going to have to sell the house that he had spent over £500,000 on, for £350,000, but a public outcry resulted in substantial donations that allowed him to stay. Little Canfield is a village and a civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. The village is situated the B1256 road, near the A120 road and the villages of Smiths Green and Takeley. As of 2021, its population is approximately 1,350. Little Canfield is in the Takeley and the Canfields ward of Uttlesford, and the Dunmow division of Essex County Council. The village is currently expanding as housing developments are being built around the area. It has a public house, the Lion and Lamb.

Great Canfield Castle lies in the small village of Great Canfield, 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Great Dunmow in Essex, England: grid reference TL595179. The lords of Canfield, the de Veres, built a motte and bailey castle on low ground near the River Roding, probably in the late 11th or early 12th century. The keep was constructed of timber. In the 1130s-1140s Aubrey de Vere II or his son Aubrey III the first Earl of Oxford may have diverted a tributary of the river to flood the ditch around the motte; the water was managed by a dam system. Excavations suggest that the moat was 20' 7" deep, 11' lower than the water table.The Vere lords held at Canfield by two feudal tenures in the Domesday Book of 1086: as tenant-in-chief of the crown for two hides and as tenant of Count Alan of Brittany, lord of Richmond for one hide. Over time, the Richmond lordship seems to have been forgotten and the Vere Earls of Oxford came to hold all three hides of the king. The estate's manor rolls survive from 14 December, 1346, into the 16th century. Only the earthworks now remain.
