Apedale Heritage Centre

Apedale Community Country Park is a 454-acre (184 ha) country park in the borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England. The park is unusual for the area as it was previously an opencast mine. The area has a long history of mining, with the nearby former collieries at Silverdale and Holditch also having been redeveloped for other uses. The park is considered by administration as a form of compensation to the residents of the area for the large amount of development that has taken place over recent years. The shallow mine at Holditch was redeveloped into a business park and an industrial estate, which led to significant capital gains for Staffordshire County Council. The amelioration of the park was part paid for out of these receipts. Within the park is the Apedale Heritage Centre. The adjoining Moseley Railway Trust is currently running the first phase of the 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge Apedale Valley Light Railway extending further into the parkland. There is a series of tracks, waymarked routes and self-guided trails. The country park is also the home of Newcastle Countryside Project and is bordered by the communities of Silverdale, Chesterton, Knutton and Cross Heath.

Loomer Road Stadium is a former sports stadium situated in Chesterton, Staffordshire. The building had considerable parking facilities, covered terracing and a bar with a view of the track. It had a capacity of 5,000. The stadium was constructed in the early 1970s and hosted greyhound racing until 2003, and speedway and stock cars until its closure at the end of the 2019 season.

Chesterton Community Sports College is a coeducational secondary school and specialist sports college located in the Chesterton area of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England. Feeder schools include Chesterton Primary, Crackley Bank, Churchfields Primary and St. Chads'. In 2006 they introduced music and drama into the curriculum. The school also has a full-time music teacher and a full-time drama teacher. CCSC has recently gained their best GCSE Results yet. Previously a community school administered by Staffordshire County Council, in December 2013 Chesterton Community Sports College converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the Collective Vision Trust.

Crown Street Halt railway station (also known as Silverdale (Crown Street) Halt) is a disused railway station in Staffordshire, England. Situated on the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) Stoke to Market Drayton Line, this halt was opened in 1905 when the NSR introduced a railmotor service between Silverdale and Trentham as a response to competition from tram companies. Situated closer to Silverdale town centre than Silverdale station, the station remained open until 1949.

Apedale Hall was a manor house near Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire. The seat of the Heathcote family, it was rebuilt in 1826 in the Elizabethan style by the Staffordshire industrialist Richard Edensor Heathcote (1780–1850), but was demolished in 1934 due to subsidence from the coal mines underneath. Oswald Mosley, British politician, known principally as the founder of the British Union of Fascists (BUF) lived there for a time in the early 20th century with his divorced mother, Katharine Maud Edwards-Heathcote (1874–1950), and his paternal grandfather Sir Oswald Mosley, 4th Baronet, before its demolition.

Holditch was a ward in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, in the county of Staffordshire, England. It covered the suburbs of Broad Meadow, and Beasley. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 4,694.

Silverdale is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, west of Newcastle-under-Lyme. It is a self contained ward of Newcastle Borough Council returning 2 Councillors. Historically, the village was dominated by the coal industry and records indicate coal was mined in the area as long ago as the 13th century. The last colliery, Silverdale Colliery, closed in 1998. Brick-maker Ibstock also operate a large clay quarry next to the former colliery.

Silverdale railway station was a railway station that served the village of Silverdale, Staffordshire, England. It was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway in 1863 and closed to passengers in 1964.In its later years, the station was used by staff operating trains to and from the adjacent colliery. For this purpose, a large rail loader was built.

Chesterton is a former mining village on the edge of Newcastle-under-Lyme, in the Newcastle-under-Lyme district, in Staffordshire, England. Chesterton is the second largest individual ward in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme. In the 2011 census, Chesterton's population stood at 7,421.

The Holditch Colliery disaster was a coal mining accident on 2 July 1937, in Chesterton, Staffordshire, England, in which 30 men died and eight were injured. It was caused by a fire and subsequent explosions, and was exacerbated by a decision from management to risk the lives of mine workers to try to save the coal seam.

Knutton and Silverdale was a ward in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, in the county of Staffordshire, England. It covered the area of Knutton and the north east end of Silverdale. In 2011 it had a population of 4313.
