Breukelen railway station

Breukelen-Nijenrode is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The municipality was formed in 1815, when the municipality of Breukelen was split into two parts. Breukelen-Nijenrode covered the western part of the former municipality, including the center of the village of Breukelen itself. It was named after the Kasteel Nijenrode, which lies south of the village. In 1949, the municipalities of Breukelen-Nijenrode and Breukelen-Sint Pieters merged again, to form the municipality of Breukelen.

The hamlet was first mentioned in 1217 as Kurtryke, and was named after Kortrijk in Belgium. It started as a peat excavation colony probably in the 11th century. The postal authorities have placed Kortrijk under Breukelen. The hamlet does not have place name signs. In 1840, it was home to 32 people.

Ruwiel is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It existed from 1818 to 1964, when it was merged with Breukelen.

Gunterstein Castle (Dutch: Gunterstein) is a castle in Breukelen, on the river Vecht, that was the former home of the rich Dutch widow Magdalena Poulle (1626–1699). She bought the property and associated title after the former castle and stronghold was destroyed by the French in the Disaster Year Rampjaar 1672.

Nyenrode Business Universiteit (abbreviated as NBU; Dutch: Nyenrode Business Universiteit) is a Dutch business university and one of the five private universities in the Netherlands. Founded in 1946, it is located on a large estate in the town of Breukelen, between Amsterdam and Utrecht. The educational institution is named after the castle where the course is located: Nijenrode castle. Nyenrode was founded under the name of the Netherlands Training Institute for Abroad (NOIB in Dutch) by renowned private Dutch companies, including KLM, Shell, Unilever, Philips and AkzoNobel with an objective- 'For Business, By Business'. The establishment was the result of an idea from KLM director Albert Plesman.

Oud-Aa is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht (province). It is a part of the municipality of Stichtse Vecht, and lies about 13 km northeast of Woerden. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1138 as "juxta lacum qui vocatur A", and refers to the Aa River which is a tributary of the Angstel River. Oud (old) has been added to distinguish from Nieuwer-Ter-Aa. The postal authorities have placed it under Breukelen, and there are no place name signs. The castle Ruwiel was located in Oud-Aa, however it was destroyed in 1673 by the French, and now contains a farm. In 1840, it was home to 315 people.

The Amsterdam–Rhine Canal (Dutch: Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal) is a canal in the Netherlands that was built to connect the port and capital city of Amsterdam to the main shipping artery of the Rhine. In 1949, the municipalities of Breukelen-Nijenrode and Breukelen-Sint Pieters merged again, to form the municipality of Breukelen.

Portengen is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located in the municipality of Stichtse Vecht, 1 km (0.62 mi) northeast of Kockengen. Portengen was a separate municipality from 1818 to 1857, when it was merged with Breukelen-Nijenrode.The hamlet was first mentioned in 1217 as Britannien, and is a reference to Brittany, France. It started as a peat excavation colony during the 11th and 12th century. The hamlet of Portengensebrug is an enclave within Portengen. In 1840, Portengen was home to 55 people.

Scheendijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Stichtse Vecht, and lies about 10 km northwest of Utrecht. Scheendijk is found in an area known for its lakes and ribbed sand islands, called the Loosdrechtse Plassen, which many tourists visit every year. The lake area is dotted with houses along embankments with yachting marinas.It was first mentioned in 1746 as De Scheyding, and means the division dike. The postal authorities have placed it under Breukelen. Scheendijk has its own place name signs.
