Barnegat Lighthouse

Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is located on the northern tip of Long Beach Island in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. The area where the lighthouse stands was regarded as one of the most important navigational points for ships bound to and from New York Harbor. The ships were dependent upon the Barnegat Lighthouse to avoid the shoals extending from the shoreline. The fast currents, shifting sandbars, and offshore shoals challenged sailors. The park is included as a maritime site on the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail. The park is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.

Barnegat Inlet is a small inlet connecting the Barnegat Bay with the Atlantic Ocean in Ocean County, New Jersey. It separates Island Beach State Park and the Barnegat Peninsula from Long Beach Island. The Barnegat Lighthouse sits at the northern end of Long Beach Island along the inlet. The area surrounding the Barnegat Bay and Barnegat Inlet were described by Henry Hudson, in 1609, as "...a great lake of water, as we could judge it to be ... The mouth of the lake hath many shoals, and the sea breaketh on them as it is cast out of the mouth of it." The inlet was originally named in 1614 "Barendegat," or "Inlet of the Breakers," by Dutch explorers of the coastline, referring to the waterway's turbulent channel. Historically the inlet has been important to commerce to the Barnegat Bay region, allowing ships to access centers of commerce like Toms River. More recently, shipwrecks have attracted scuba divers to the area. The inlet is also a popular destination for birdwatchers. The continued threat of storms such as the Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962 reinforced concerns about the stability of the shoreline along the inlet. The construction of the existing jetty in the 1990s added a significant amount of land to the town of Barnegat Light, much of which was designated as parkland and now includes a bird sanctuary. The jetty has provided stabilization to the shoreline along the inlet, but requires frequent dredging.

The Barnegat Light Public School was the one-room schoolhouse for the borough of Barnegat Light in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States, from 1903 until June 15, 1951. It became the Barnegat Light Historical Society Museum in 1954. The schoolhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 7, 1976, for its significance in education.

Cranberry Inlet (also known as New Inlet or Toms River Inlet) was an inlet connecting Barnegat Bay with the Atlantic Ocean in Ocean County, New Jersey. It has been closed since 1812.

Barnegat Light is a borough in Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 640, an increase of 66 (+11.5%) from the 2010 census count of 574, which in turn reflected a decline of 190 (−24.9%) from the 764 counted in the 2000 census. The borough borders the Atlantic Ocean on Long Beach Island and is home to Barnegat Lighthouse. Barnegat Light was formed as a borough by the New Jersey Legislature on November 2, 1948, to replace Barnegat City borough, which in turn had been created on March 29, 1904, from portions of Long Beach Township.

High Bar Harbor is a neighborhood and unincorporated community located in the north-westernmost portion of Long Beach Township, in Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The area is on Long Beach Island, west of Barnegat Light. The area has no beaches of its own, however, residents have a less than 10 minute walk to the beaches of Barnegat Light and must display Barnegat Light beach badges for access in season. The 400 homes on the lagoons were developed in the mid-1950s. As the section is surrounded on three sides by water, almost all of the homes are on the water or have water access. The neighborhood has a network of canals leading from Barnegat Bay and is thus popular with boaters. While some residents are year-round inhabitants, the majority of homes are only occupied during the summer season. The neighborhood contains mostly residences and is known as a quiet, secluded, and exclusive area. Residents/home owners include sports coaches, lawyers, IT/Cloud executives and at least one Supreme Court Justice.

Loveladies is a neighborhood and unincorporated community located in the northernmost portion of Long Beach Township, in Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The area is on Long Beach Island, between Barnegat Light and Harvey Cedars.

Harvey Cedars is a coastal borough situated on the Jersey Shore, in southern Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough encompasses a narrow strip of Long Beach Island fronting both the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 391, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 54 (+16.0%) from the 2010 census count of 337, which in turn reflected a decline of 22 (−6.1%) from the 359 counted in the 2000 census.Harvey Cedars was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on December 15, 1894, from portions of Union Township (now Barnegat Township), based on the results of a referendum held on November 20, 1894. The community's post office was initially known as High Point, the name of a neighborhood in the borough that lies at a higher elevation, before a name change was made in the 1930s at the request of the United States Postal Service to differentiate the post office from the northern New Jersey community of High Point in Sussex County.The majority of the housing units in the borough are seasonal houses used primarily in the summer by owners who live elsewhere, bringing the summer population to 12,000. The borough's quiet character and bay and ocean access make housing very expensive, with many bay or oceanfront houses priced at $2 million or more. Despite the borough's small size, its property was assessed at over $1.28 billion in 2019.

Tices Shoal is a shoal located in Barnegat Bay near Island Beach State Park, in Lacey Township, Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. However the name is also used to describe a location commonly used by boats and other water craft slightly to the east. There is foot access to the main road of Island Beach State Park located at 39.833716°N 74.091501°W / 39.833716; -74.091501. This connects the boat anchorage to the beaches of the park. In the summer of 2015, a fee was added to walk from the anchorage to Island Beach State Park while lifeguards are on duty.

Camp Whelen, a Christian summer camp for young girls, was founded in the early 1920s after the former Harvey Cedars Hotel was purchased by the Philadelphia YWCA. Camp Whelen survived until the Depression. After shutting down due to declining attendance, the hotel was abandoned for about 10 years. After this, it was purchased and turned into Harvey Cedars Bible Conference. Harvey Cedars Bible Conference is a Christian retreat center in Harvey Cedars, New Jersey, providing conferences, retreats, and other events. The Bible Conference has a long history of biblically-oriented ministries and vacations for families and people of all ages and ethnicities. Summers feature week-long family and teen conferences. The rest of the year is filled with retreats for different organizations, including at least one retreat which brings in hundreds from other countries. Lodging facilities include a Victorian hotel, a modern hotel, a motel, and other dormitory-style housing units. Other facilities include a dining hall, a dock and gazebo, tennis courts, an indoor heated swimming pool, an indoor hot tub, a gymnasium, volleyball court, and soccer fields.
