Bloomsbury (Frederick, Maryland)

Urbana ( ər-BAN-ə) is a suburban census-designated place located in Frederick County, Maryland, United States. It lies at the I-270/MD 80 interchange, approximately 7.5 miles (12.1 km) southeast of Frederick and about 37 miles (60 km) northwest of Washington, D.C. Urbana started to develop circa 1999 and, as of the 2010 census, had a population of 9,175. It is part of the Washington metropolitan area. In August 2015, Urbana was ranked #35 in the country for Money.com "Best Places to Live 2015" and in 2018, Urbana was ranked #9 in Maryland for Niche's Best places to live 2018.

The Landon House, also known as the Stancioff House, is a historic home located at Urbana, Frederick County, Maryland, United States. It was built about 1849 and is a large three-story frame house with a notable clerestory roof, and two-story full length galleried porch. The home's interior woodwork is of a simple Greek Revival style. The former smokehouse has been converted to a chapel. The house is said to have originally stood on the Rappahannock River near Fredericksburg, Virginia, and moved to its present location in 1846 at the direction of the Reverend R.H. Phillips. It has been used as both a school and private home. Reverend Phillips established a Female Seminary here between 1846 and 1850, then become a military institute for boys, and by the end of the 1850s it apparently had resumed its role as a Female Seminary. It was used by the 155th Pennsylvania Volunteers as a resting point for Union Troops marching toward the Battle of Antietam on September 16, 1862. The house would host a cotillion ball for Confederate soldiers before eventually becoming a field hospital during the civil war. During 2013 the building was purchased by new owners who have plans to restore it to its Civil War state. The house was listed as the Stancioff House on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The building is located on the Antietam Campaign Civil War Trail.

The Cockey-Jamison-Hendrickson House and Store are historic buildings located in Urbana, Frederick County, Maryland, United States. The house and store were built by Sebastian Cockey, a scion of an old Maryland family. The house, c. 1850 with a 20th-century addition, is an example of vernacular domestic architecture of the period in this region. The 2½-story late Federal style structure follows an L-shaped plan, and features a three-bay facade, gabled roof, and a hip roofed porch. The adjacent store was rebuilt in 1927 to its present appearance. It is a typical rural commercial building for its time period. Originally known as "S. G. Cockey's Cash Store," it sold dry goods, hardware, farm supplies, and Esso gasoline until 1958. The property is also said to be the location of Confederate General J. E. B. Stuart’s cavalry encampment in September 1862. It was during this encampment that he and his officers held a fancy dress ball for the local ladies at Landon Hall next door. The buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

Fat Oxen is a historic home located near Urbana, Frederick County, Maryland, United States. It is a 1+1⁄2-story Flemish bond brick house over a high rough stone foundation, with a shorter kitchen wing. It was built about 1775 and is basically Georgian vernacular architecture in style. The home is a notable example of an English farmhouse in a region that was largely populated by German Americans.Fat Oxen was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Amelung House and Glassworks is a historic home located at Urbana, Frederick County, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story, late-Georgian brick home on a stone foundation built about 1785. The property once had the New Bremen glassworks built by Johann Friedrich Amelung after he came to Maryland in 1784; no above-ground remains of the factory remain. Fine examples of New Bremen glass work may be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York; and Winterthur Museum in Winterthur, Delaware.The Amelung House and Glassworks was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Sugarloaf Mountain is a small (1,283 foot; 391 m) mountain and park about 10 miles (16 km) south of Frederick, Maryland, USA. The closest village is Barnesville, located just over one mile from the foot of the mountain. The peak of this relatively low mountain is approximately 800 feet (244 m) higher than the surrounding farmland. It is visible from many parts of northern Montgomery County and southern Frederick County, notably from I-270 north of the town of Germantown. Because of its geological and natural history interest, it was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1969. It is a notable example of an admission-free (although donations are requested), privately owned scenic park.

The Gordon Strong Automobile Objective was a proposed planetarium, restaurant, and scenic overlook designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright for the top of Sugarloaf Mountain in Maryland. Wright developed the design in 1925 on commission from Chicago businessman Gordon Strong. A spiraling ramp featured centrally in Wright's plan; this was his first use of a feature which would later gain fame as part of his Guggenheim Museum in New York.

The Buckingham House and Industrial School Complex is a historic trade school complex located near Buckeystown, Frederick County, Maryland. It consists of thirteen buildings associated with a trade school for boys from poor families that operated from 1898 to 1944. The complex centers on a 3-story dormitory building built for the school, but also includes the late 18th-century Federal style Buckingham House. The surrounding farm was, uniquely for the area, irrigated. Bordering the Monocacy River, the grounds include several significant late Woodland period archeological sites.After the school closed, the property was donated to the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. It became a youth camp and then a conference center named after the first bishop ordained in Maryland, the Rev. Claggett. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Hyattstown is an unincorporated community in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States.Established in 1798 by founder Jesse Hyatt, Hyattstown is located on Maryland Route 355 in upper Montgomery County. In this full-service town, there was the Hyattstown Inn, a one-room school-house, a butcher, a blacksmith, and other commercial venues. These historical commercial buildings are now private homes. Quarries nearby supplied slate for roofing the old United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.Hyattstown was the location of a Civil War artillery battle between General Nathaniel Prentice Banks' troops and General Stonewall Jackson's troops in 1862.Hyattstown Christian Church, a Disciples of Christ congregation that was established in 1840, continues worship, service, and outreach activities into the present day.The town is also close to Frederick County, Maryland, up where it borders Urbana.

Johnson-Wolfe Farm, more commonly known as the Comus Inn, is a historic set of four buildings located at Comus, Montgomery County, Maryland. The complex includes a ca. 1862 vernacular dwelling known as the Comus Inn, smokehouse, and barn, and a ca. 1936 poultry house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
