The Landon House, also known as the Stancioff House, is a historic home located at Urbana, Frederick County, Maryland, United States. It was built about 1849 and is a large three-story frame house with a notable clerestory roof, and two-story full length galleried porch. The home's interior woodwork is of a simple Greek Revival style. The former smokehouse has been converted to a chapel. The house is said to have originally stood on the Rappahannock River near Fredericksburg, Virginia, and moved to its present location in 1846 at the direction of the Reverend R.H. Phillips. It has been used as both a school and private home. Reverend Phillips established a Female Seminary here between 1846 and 1850, then become a military institute for boys, and by the end of the 1850s it apparently had resumed its role as a Female Seminary. It was used by the 155th Pennsylvania Volunteers as a resting point for Union Troops marching toward the Battle of Antietam on September 16, 1862. The house would host a cotillion ball for Confederate soldiers before eventually becoming a field hospital during the civil war. During 2013 the building was purchased by new owners who have plans to restore it to its Civil War state. The house was listed as the Stancioff House on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The building is located on the Antietam Campaign Civil War Trail.

Urbana ( ər-BAN-ə) is a suburban census-designated place located in Frederick County, Maryland, United States. It lies at the I-270/MD 80 interchange, approximately 7.5 miles (12.1 km) southeast of Frederick and about 37 miles (60 km) northwest of Washington, D.C. Urbana started to develop circa 1999 and, as of the 2010 census, had a population of 9,175. It is part of the Washington metropolitan area. In August 2015, Urbana was ranked #35 in the country for Money.com "Best Places to Live 2015" and in 2018, Urbana was ranked #9 in Maryland for Niche's Best places to live 2018.

The Cockey-Jamison-Hendrickson House and Store are historic buildings located in Urbana, Frederick County, Maryland, United States. The house and store were built by Sebastian Cockey, a scion of an old Maryland family. The house, c. 1850 with a 20th-century addition, is an example of vernacular domestic architecture of the period in this region. The 2½-story late Federal style structure follows an L-shaped plan, and features a three-bay facade, gabled roof, and a hip roofed porch. The adjacent store was rebuilt in 1927 to its present appearance. It is a typical rural commercial building for its time period. Originally known as "S. G. Cockey's Cash Store," it sold dry goods, hardware, farm supplies, and Esso gasoline until 1958. The property is also said to be the location of Confederate General J. E. B. Stuart’s cavalry encampment in September 1862. It was during this encampment that he and his officers held a fancy dress ball for the local ladies at Landon Hall next door. The buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

Urbana High School is a secondary public school in Ijamsville, Maryland, United States. It serves grades 9-12 and is a part of the Frederick County Public Schools.

Bloomsbury, also known as the Roger Johnson House, is a sandstone house in southern Frederick County, Maryland. The house was occupied by Roger Johnson, brother of Maryland governor Thomas Johnson, who established Bloomsbury Forge nearby. The property includes the remains of log slave quarters and a rare example of an early log barn.Bloomsbury was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Ijamsville ( EYE-əmz-vil) is an unincorporated community located 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Frederick, in Frederick County, Maryland, United States. The town was founded by Plummer Ijams, a descendant of Welsh immigrants, from whom the town took its name. The discovery of high-quality slate in the area led to Ijamsville's brief era as a mining town, which lasted until it transitioned to agriculture in the mid-1800s. In the mid-to-late 20th century, large quantities of land in Ijamsville were purchased by developers, and the town became primarily residential as a suburb of Frederick, Baltimore, and D.C.

Gambrill House, also known as Boscobel House and Edgewood, is a house near Frederick, Maryland in the Monocacy National Battlefield. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.The house is associated with James Gambrill, owner of nearby Araby Mill and the Frederick City Mill. Gambrill's house boasted advanced features such as hot and cold running water, imported Italian marble fireplaces, gas lamps and a coal furnace. Gambrill was forced by financial circumstances to give up the house and mills in 1893. The house was acquired by the National Park Service in 1983 and serves as the home of the NPS Historic Preservation Training Center.

The Battle of Monocacy (also known as Monocacy Junction) was fought on July 9, 1864, about 6 miles (9.7 km) from Frederick, Maryland, as part of the Valley Campaigns of 1864 during the American Civil War. Confederate forces under Lt. Gen. Jubal A. Early defeated Union forces under Maj. Gen. Lew Wallace. The battle was part of Early's raid through the Shenandoah Valley and into Maryland in an attempt to divert Union forces from their siege of Gen. Robert E. Lee's army at Petersburg, Virginia.The battle was the northernmost Confederate victory of the war. Afterward, the Union troops retreated to Baltimore, Maryland, and the Confederates continued toward Washington, D.C. But because the battle had delayed Early's march for a day, Union reinforcements had time to get to the Union capital before the Confederates. Early launched an attack on Washington on July 12 at the Battle of Fort Stevens, but the Confederates were unsuccessful and retreated to Virginia.

Monocacy National Battlefield is a unit of the National Park Service, the site of the Battle of Monocacy in the American Civil War fought on July 9, 1864. The battlefield straddles the Monocacy River southeast of the city of Frederick, Maryland. The battle, labeled "The Battle That Saved Washington," was one of the last the Confederates would carry out in Union territory. The two opposing leaders were General Jubal Early, fighting for the South, and General Lew Wallace, fighting for the North.

The 14th New Jersey monument is a memorial monument located on the Monocacy battlefield in Frederick, Maryland, United States. It stands to honor the men of the volunteer force that protected the Monocacy Junction during the crucial winter of 1863-1864. Their halting of Confederate troops from advancing Northward played a significant role in the Union territory control.

L'Hermitage Slave Village Archeological Site is an archaeological site near Frederick in Frederick County, Maryland. The location, within the boundaries of Monocacy National Battlefield, was the site of l'Hermitage Plantation, founded about 1793 by the Vincendière family. The Vincendières are believed to have been former Haitian landowners who had fled the Haitian Revolution to the Catholic-leaning state of Maryland. L'Hermitage was notable during its time for its size, brutality and for the large number of slaves on the property.The site was the subject of an archaeological excavation by the National Park Service in the summer of 2010 which focused on the structures on the site, believed to have been slave cabins. The Park Service had acquired the area in 1993 as part of an expansion of the battlefield site, and conducted preliminary investigations in 2003. The location became known as the Best Farm, and many of its structures remain extant as part of the battlefield's landscape.

The Amelung House and Glassworks is a historic home located at Urbana, Frederick County, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story, late-Georgian brick home on a stone foundation built about 1785. The property once had the New Bremen glassworks built by Johann Friedrich Amelung after he came to Maryland in 1784; no above-ground remains of the factory remain. Fine examples of New Bremen glass work may be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York; and Winterthur Museum in Winterthur, Delaware.The Amelung House and Glassworks was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
