The Philadelphia TRACON/ATCT is located at the Philadelphia International Airport and is a TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach Control) with Up-and-Down capabilities which means it includes both a TRACON and ATCT (Air Traffic Control Tower) in the same facility. The facility is "sectorized" into two sectors for the controllers. "A-side" controllers, work the tower, and half the radar room. "B-side" controllers work the entire radar room (POM). Philadelphia International Airport is a level 12 facility and the TRACON works on an average of 2,800 daily movements; the ATCT handles about 1,700 operations per day.The primary responsibility of the Philadelphia TRACON/ATCT is the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of arrival, departure, and en route traffic. PHL TRACON's main responsibility is obviously Philadelphia International Airport. Additionally, they offer approach and departure services to several other satellite airports near PHL; Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE), New Castle Airport (ILG) in Wilmington, Delaware, Trenton Mercer Airport (TTN) in Trenton, New Jersey and several smaller General Aviation fields such as Wings Field (LOM) in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, Heritage Field Airport (PTW) in Pottstown, PA and Brandywine Airport (OQN) in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The TRACON's airspace overlies a total of four states including New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and extreme north east Maryland.

The international terminal and the western end of the airfield are in Tinicum Township, Delaware County. The Commonwealth's Aviation Bureau reported in its Pennsylvania Air Service Monitor that the total economic impact made by the state's airports in 2004 was $22 billion. In 2017, PHL commissioned a new economic impact report. The report found PHL alone accounted for $15.4 billion in activity with over 96,000 direct and indirect jobs with $5.4 billion in total earnings.

Hog Island is the historic name of an area southeast of Tinicum Township, Pennsylvania along the Delaware River, to the west of the mouth of the Schuylkill River. Philadelphia International Airport now sits on the land that was once Hog Island.

National Airlines Flight 83 was a United States domestic flight from Newark International Airport, serving New York City, to Philadelphia. On January 14, 1951, the Douglas DC-4 of National Airlines crashed on landing at Philadelphia International Airport. The aircraft over-shot the runway, ran into a ditch and caught fire. Of the 28 people on board, 7 were killed and 11 injured. One of the dead was the lone flight attendant, Frankie Housley, who had gone back into the burning aircraft to try to save more passengers.

Eastwick is a neighborhood in the Southwest section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the southwesternmost neighborhood in the city, bordering Philadelphia International Airport and the city line with Delaware County at Cobbs Creek and Darby Creek. The Elmwood Park neighborhood borders it to the northeast.

Eastwick station is a SEPTA Regional Rail station in Philadelphia. It serves the Airport Line to Philadelphia International Airport. Located below 84th Street and situated between Mario Lanza Boulevard and Bartram Avenue (PA 291), it is the sole stop between central Philadelphia and the Philadelphia International Airport Terminals. Eastwick is within walking distance of the Eastwick Loop station of the 36 trolley which is located at Island Avenue and 80th Street. In 2013, this station saw 367 boardings and 421 alightings on an average weekday. The station is accessed from Interstate 95 northbound via exit 10 and southbound via exit 12B. Access to the station is granted via a cul-de-sac off of Bartram Avenue and also from Mario Lanza Boulevard. Pedestrians and drivers coming from 84th Street must use either Crane Street to Lanza Boulevard or 84th to south on Bartram. While the station has no official SEPTA parking lot, a number of parking spaces along Mario Lanza Boulevard and Crane Street are used by commuters patronizing the stop. Eastwick station, located along the original Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad main line, was conceived as 84th Street, under which name (as "proposed") it appeared on 1984 SEPTA informational maps. The present minimalist station was erected in 1997 in order to serve newly built local office parks as quickly as possible. SEPTA, along with the City of Philadelphia, plans to expand the station, transforming it into the Eastwick Transportation Center.When the station opened, it was a Zone 2 station. On July 1, 2013, SEPTA changed Eastwick to a Zone 1 station in conjunction with a fare increase and zone realignment. On the same day, the airport stations changed from Zone 5 to Zone 4.

International Plaza, formerly known as Scott Plaza, is an office complex in Tinicum Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. It is the former corporate headquarters of the Scott Paper Company. The facility is next to the Philadelphia International Airport and south of Pennsylvania Route 291.

Carpenter's Island, Pennsylvania is a historical location on the Delaware River in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, reportedly named for the Carpenter family who purchased land on the island in the late 17th century, originally located near the mouth of the Schuylkill River, just north of Hog Island, Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaOver time, Hog Island migrated north into Carpenter's Island; the area is now the Philadelphia International Airport. Carpenter's Island appears on a 1753 map of Philadelphia and adjacent areas drawn by Nicolas Scull and George Heap, is mentioned in American Revolutionary War histories about action on the Delaware River in late 1777, and is shown on a 1785 map drawn by William Faden. Alternate names are Carpenters Island, Cock's Island, Cocks Island, Fisher's Island, Fishers Island, and Peter Cock's Island.

ACI Technologies Inc. (ACI), formerly known as the American Competitiveness Institute, is an American scientific research corporation founded by Alan J. Criswell in 1992. Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ACI operates a 10,000-square-foot (930 m2) facility dedicated to the advancement of the electronics industry and research and development of various electronic manufacturing methods and materials. Early in its existence, ACI acquired a defense contract from the Office of Naval Research known as the Electronics Manufacturing Productivity Facility (EMPF).

Southwest Philadelphia (formerly Kingsessing Township) is a section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The section can be described as extending from the western side of the Schuylkill River to the city line, with the SEPTA. The northern border is defined by the Philadelphia City Planning Commission as east from the city line along Baltimore Avenue moving south along 51st Street to Springfield Ave. It follows the train tracks until 49th Street. From 49th and Kingsessing Ave the line moves east along Kingsessing Ave. The line then moves south along 46th St to Paschall Ave where it jogs to join Grays Ferry where the line runs to the Schuylkill River.Southwest Philadelphia is also described by the city as being the area south of Baltimore Avenue; at the turn of the 20th century, Baltimore Avenue between 49th and 52nd Streets was known as "The Hub of Southwest Philadelphia" . Historically home to many Irish American neighborhoods, the section now has a large African American and West African immigrant population; a recent nickname is "Little Africa".Southwest Philadelphia contains Philadelphia International Airport, oil refineries, and other heavy industries. The housing stock is diverse with ornate Queen Anne-style twin mansions in the neighborhoods bordering Cedar Park, plainer and simpler styles of twins predominating closer to the airport, and newer rowhouses, many with porches, filling in many neighborhoods. Less than 1% of Southwest is covered by trees, giving it one of the lowest ratios of shade tree cover in the city.The Philadelphia Police Department patrols the 12th and 77th districts within Southwest Philadelphia.

80th Street – Eastwick Loop, also known as Island Road & Eastwick Avenue or Eastwick Loop, is a SEPTA trolley terminal station in Philadelphia. It is the western terminus of the SEPTA Subway–Surface Route 36 trolley and is located at Island Avenue near its former intersection with Eastwick Avenue near Interstate 95 in the Eastwick neighborhood of Southwest Philadelphia. The Eastwick station of the SEPTA Regional Rail Airport Line, which serves Philadelphia International Airport, is within walking distance of the station. North of Eastwick Loop, the trolleys travel in an unpaved median parallel to Island Avenue until entering the street at Buist Avenue. Until April 25, 1975, Route 36 trolleys would continue west along what was called Eastwick Avenue out to 88th Street, where a single counterclockwise loop built in the swamplands. This was originally the routing or former Subway Surface Streetcar Trolley Route 37, which was merged into Route 36 on November 6, 1955.

Communications Technology High School was a public high school serving grades 9–12 located at 8110 Lyons Avenue in the Hedgerow neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school, which was located next to George Pepper Middle School, was part of the School District of Philadelphia's Comprehensive High School Region; in its later years, it operated as a campus of John Bartram High School, which is still in operation. In 2013, amid the rapid growth of publicly-funded charter schools in Philadelphia, the City shut down Communications Technology High School, along with 22 other district-run schools, to cut costs and consolidate the district's remaining students on fewer campuses. Students enrolled at Communications Technology at the time were automatically re-enrolled at the main campus of John Bartram High School.
