Shipley Hall

Marlpool railway station is a former railway station that served the village of Marlpool in Derbyshire, England. It was opened on a branch line from Ilkeston to Heanor on the Great Northern Railway (Great Britain) Derbyshire Extension line. Opened in 1891, passenger services finished in 1928. Today, the station building is a private residence.

Mapperley is a village and civil parish in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England, situated 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Derby and 2 miles (3 km) northwest of Ilkeston. In the 2001 census it had a population of 253, increasing to 289 at the 2011 Census.The village is on a loop off the A609 Nottingham to Belper road. A minor road leading to Shipley was closed by Derbyshire County Council in 2007.The village is inaccessible from the rest of Amber Valley Borough by road without first passing through Erewash Borough. The facilities in the village include a church, a C of E primary school and a pub.Mapperley Colliery, which was in operation from 1871 until 1965, was formerly a major employer in the area.

The American Adventure was a theme park in Derbyshire, England, quite close to both Nottingham and Derby on the edge of Ilkeston. The park for many years had a number of large white-knuckle attractions, but in 2005 was rethemed as a 'family' park aimed at the under-14 market. In January 2007, the owners announced that it would not reopen for the new season, and the rides would be sold off.

Shipley is a village in the south-east of Derbyshire in the East Midlands of England. Since 1974 it has been part of the Borough of Amber Valley. The name apparently derives from the Old English scēap ('sheep') and lēah ('open ground, such as meadow, pasture, or arable land'). Thus it means 'sheep-clearing' or 'sheep-pasture'.Shipley separates the Ilkeston and Heanor urban areas, which are linked by the main A6007 road. It also incorporates most of the Shipley Country Park and the hamlet known as 'The Field' which is usually seen as the centre of the civil parish, with the Anglican Parish Church being at Cotmanhay, to the north of Ilkeston. The Nutbrook Canal, completed in 1796 linked Shipley to the Erewash Canal.

Aldercar is a village in Derbyshire, England. It is located near Langley Mill, close to the county boundary with Nottinghamshire, and forms part of the civil parish of Aldercar and Langley Mill. The area is commonly known in Amber Valley thanks to Aldercar High School, the local secondary school. The area is also home to Aldercar Hall down Aldercar lane, one of the first houses in the area.

The Town Ground is a cricket and football ground in the town of Heanor, Derbyshire, England. For cricket, the ground is the home of Heanor Town CC, and has also been used by Derbyshire CCC in the 1970s and 1980s, mostly for limited-over matches. Heanor Town Football Club is a football club based in Heanor, Derbyshire, England. They are currently members of the United Counties League Premier Division North and play at the Town Ground.

Heanor was an Urban District in Derbyshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894. The district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and combined with the Alfreton, Belper, Heanor and Ripley urban districts and Belper Rural District to form the new Amber Valley district.

Heanor railway station was a former railway station at Heanor in Derbyshire, England, opened in 1891. It was the terminus of the branch from Ilkeston on the Great Northern Railway Derbyshire Extension line. It was one of two stations called "Heanor". The other had been opened by the Midland Railway the year before. It was not until 1950 that British Railways renamed them Heanor North and Heanor South. Unofficially, the station was known locally as 'Heanor Gate' to separate it from the other Heanor station before they were both officially renamed.The GNR station closed to passenger services in 1939 and for goods in 1963. The last stationmaster was H.H. Voss, also a Derbyshire County Council Alderman who retired after 44 years service on the railway locally in October 1963.
