Cuffley

Cuffley railway station serves the village of Cuffley in the Welwyn Hatfield district of Hertfordshire. It also serves other nearby settlements, namely Goffs Oak, Northaw and the west of Cheshunt. It is 13 miles 17 chains (13.21 miles, 21.26 km) down the line from London King's Cross on the Hertford Loop Line. The station opened in 1910 on the Hertford Loop Line between Enfield Chase and Hertford North as Cuffley and Goff's Oak, with the suffix being dropped some time later. The opening of the station allowed Cuffley to expand as an attractive commuter village with regular services to London King's Cross, and Broad Street (replaced by Northern City Line trains to Moorgate in 1976). Cuffley was served by steam locomotives until 1960 when they were replaced by diesels; the line was electrified in 1976.The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Great Northern.

Northaw and Cuffley is a civil parish in the Welwyn Hatfield borough of Hertfordshire, England. Located approximately 13.5 miles (21.7 km) north of central London and adjacent to the Greater London boundary, it is a partly urbanised parish with large sections of open land. Northaw and Cuffley is a recent renaming of the ancient parish of Northaw, covering the settlements of Northaw and Cuffley. The local council is Northaw and Cuffley Parish Council.

Newgate Street is a village near Cuffley, in Hatfield civil parish, in the Hertsmere district of Hertfordshire, England. It is approximately six miles south-west of Hertford and has a population of 400. At the 2011 Census the population was included in the town of Hatfield. The village has an Anglican church, a school (Ponsbourne St Mary's), a restaurant (The Gables), two pubs (The Crown and The Coach and Horses) and a hotel (Ponsbourne Park Hotel). There is also a small town hall and two outdoor tennis courts. Originally in the Manor of Tolmers, the present Tolmers Park House dates from 1761. Since World War I it has been used as a military hospital, a girls' boarding school, a geriatric hospital and has now been converted to luxury apartments. Part of the estate became Tolmers Scout Camp in 1940. The house lies just to the South-West of the village.

The Paddocks, in Crews Hill, Enfield, London, is a farmhouse that is grade II* listed with Historic England. It dates from the first half of the seventeenth century.

The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Great Northern. The station was opened on 4 April 1910. It is the most northerly railway station in London.

Goffs Oak (Goff's Oak on Ordnance Survey maps) is a large village in the borough of Broxbourne in Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. It lies between Cuffley and Cheshunt, just north of the M25 motorway in a slightly more rural section of the London commuter belt.

Botany Bay is a hamlet in Enfield, England, on the outskirts of north London, located in the historic county of Middlesex. It has a population close to 200. The hamlet is centred at the junction of The Ridgeway – the A1005 road that links Enfield to Potters Bar and the M25 motorway – and East Lodge Lane. Enfield Chase lies to the south and west. It is about a mile from the railway station at Crews Hill. Botany Bay was established when Enfield Chase was enclosed in 1777 and was recorded as Botany Bay on C.G. Greenwood's map of 1819. According to the Dictionary of London Place Names its name references Botany Bay in Australia, transferred to the hamlet which was "remote and inaccessible in the middle of Enfield Chase." The place name is repeated in several counties within England.Botany Bay amenities include The Robin Hood public house, a farm shop, a business centre, a cricket ground and club, and a chapel. Botany Bay is served by Transport For London bus route 313, which runs 7 days a week, linking the location to Potters Bar, Enfield and Chingford. The hamlet is part of the Chase ward of the London Borough of Enfield, which also covers Crews Hill, Clay Hill and Bulls Cross. The 2011 census showed that 77% of the ward's population was white (64% British, 11% Other, 2% Irish), 5% was Black African and 3% Black Caribbean.There was a small primary school in the hamlet. In the early 1950s pupils were bused from Hadley Wood to Botany Bay for their schooling.

Crews Hill is an elevated and green-buffered former hamlet grown into a small village-size community on the northern outskirts of London centred 12.3 miles (20 km) north of Charing Cross. It forms part of the London Borough of Enfield and economically has many garden centres and plant nurseries. It is the northernmost settlement in the entire county of Greater London bordering the M25 and the Welwyn Hatfield district of Hertfordshire to the north; it was historically part of the county of Middlesex.

Northaw Great Wood is a 223.6-hectare (553-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) near Cuffley in Hertfordshire, England. It covers Northaw Great Wood Country Park, which is managed by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Well Wood, Justice Hill and Grimes Bottom. Part of the site is managed by Hertfordshire County Council as a schools' park. The country park is also a local nature reserve.The wood was part of a large area of common land in the parish of Northaw which was used for grazing livestock and source of wood fuel. Closure of the canopy has led to the disappearance of open woodland birds such as nightingales and tree pipits, but the management plan for the wood aims to restore biodiversity. The site has one of the county's most extensive areas of ancient hornbeam woodland, with other trees including oak and silver birch. Glades, streams and springs add to the biodiversity.There is access from the Ridgeway in Cuffley and facilities include a car park and toilets.

Northaw is a village in the Welwyn Hatfield district of Hertfordshire, England. It is part of the civil parish of Northaw and Cuffley (where at the 2011 Census the population was included), which was originally known as Northaw. The parish had a population of 5,190 according to the 2001 census, most of whom live in Cuffley. It formed part of the Metropolitan Police District until 2000. The village has a population of around 590 people. Northaw Church of England Primary School was founded in 1879 and the trust deed, which is the school's Christian foundation, remains integral to the ethos and beliefs of the school community. The school is a Voluntary Aided School and is part of the family of the Diocese of St Albans.The parish church of Thomas à Becket is Grade II listed. Built in 1881, by C. Kirk and Son of Sleaford, replacing church of 1809. The north aisle was added in 1887, with choir and vestry added in 1893. The church has complete and original stained glass. The east window is signed Ward Hughes 1882, the west window Ward & Hughes 1887 and the three north aisle windows c. 1895 are by Heaton, Butler and Bayne.A Northaw ex-resident was former cabinet minister Cecil Parkinson.
