Charlotte Douglas International Airport (IATA: CLT, ICAO: KCLT, FAA LID: CLT), typically referred to as Charlotte Douglas, Douglas Airport, or simply CLT, is an international airport in Charlotte, North Carolina, located roughly six miles west of the city's central business district. Charlotte Douglas is the primary airport for commercial and military use in the Charlotte metropolitan area. Operated by the city of Charlotte's aviation department, the airport covers 5,558 acres (2,249 ha) of land.Established in 1935 as Charlotte Municipal Airport, the airport was later renamed for Ben Elbert Douglas Sr., who was mayor of Charlotte when the airport was first built. In 1982 the airport was renamed again, this time to its current Charlotte Douglas International Airport.In 2019, CLT was the 11th-busiest airport in the United States in terms of passenger traffic, having processed over 50 million passengers, and fifth-busiest in terms of aircraft operations, ranking sixth globally. In 2021, CLT grew to the sixth busiest airport in the United States. Charlotte is a fortress hub for American Airlines, which operates the majority of the airport's flights. The airport has four runways and one passenger terminal with 115 gates (the most of any airport terminal in the U.S.) across five concourses. A commercial-civil-military facility, the airport is home to the Charlotte Air National Guard base and its host unit, the 145th Airlift Wing of the North Carolina Air National Guard.

USAir Flight 1016 was a regularly scheduled flight in the southeastern United States, between Columbia, South Carolina, and Charlotte, North Carolina.: 1  On July 2, 1994, the flight encountered heavy thunderstorms and microburst-induced windshear while attempting to land, and crashed into heavy trees and a private residence near the airport. The crash and ensuing fire caused 37 fatalities and seriously injured twenty others.: 1 

The Sullenberger Aviation Museum, formerly the Carolinas Aviation Museum, is an aviation museum on the grounds of Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is one of a few aviation museums located at an airport which serves as a major hub (Charlotte is the #2 hub for American Airlines). Its centerpiece attraction is the Airbus A320 used on US Airways Flight 1549.

Dixie is an unincorporated community in western Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States. Centered at the intersection of Dixie River Road and Wallace Neel Road; the rural community has shrank since the start of the 21st century with the expansion of Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the westward expansion of Charlotte. The community is also referred as Dixie-Berryhill, a combination of Dixie and the Berryhill township it resides in. This was the name given by City of Charlotte officials in 1989, despite the area not being part of the city at the time.

Steele Creek Presbyterian Church and Cemetery is a historic Presbyterian church complex and national historic district located near Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The church was founded in 1760 and the current sanctuary was built in 1889, and is a rectangular, Gothic Revival style brick building. It is five bays wide and six bays deep, and has pointed-arched sash windows, shallow buttresses, and steeply pitched roof parapet. The cemetery contains approximately 1,700 headstones, with the oldest dating to 1763.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The Art Institute of Charlotte was a for-profit art school in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was briefly operated as a non-profit institution before it closed in 2018. The school was one of a number of Art Institutes, a franchise of for-profit art colleges with many branches in North America, owned and operated by Education Management Corporation. EDMC owned the college from 1999 until 2017, when, facing significant financial problems and declining enrollment, the company sold the Art Institute of Charlotte, along with 30 other Art Institute schools, to Dream Center Education, a Los Angeles-based Pentecostal organization. Dream Center permanently closed 18 Art Institute schools, including the Art Institute of Charlotte, at the end of 2018.

Charlotte Speedway was the site of NASCAR's first Strictly Stock Series (now NASCAR Cup Series) race on June 19, 1949. The Daytona Beach Road Course held the first race sanctioned by NASCAR in 1948. The track was a few miles west of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, on Little Rock Road. It was owned by Carl C. Allison Sr. and his wife, Catherine Montgomery Allison. The track was forced to close when construction of Interstate 85 took its parking area.

The Billy Graham Library is a public museum and library documenting the life and ministry of Christian evangelist Billy Graham. The 40,000-square-foot (3,700 m2) complex opened to the public on June 5, 2007. The library is located on the grounds of the international headquarters of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Charlotte, North Carolina, a few miles from where Graham was reared. The library is styled after a dairy barn, with a mechanical "talking" cow, to reflect Graham's farm-based childhood.The main galleries within the library showcase numerous presentations, pictures, music, artifacts, and voices from throughout Graham's ministry. One gallery is entirely devoted to Ruth Bell Graham, the wife of the evangelist. There is a dairy bar café and bookstore called "Ruth's Attic." All visitors enter the Library through doors at the base of a 40-foot (12 m) glass cross. Also located on the Library grounds is the Prayer Garden, where Ruth Graham was buried on June 17, 2007. Ruth Graham initially opposed to being buried at the library, and instead preferred her home at the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove near Asheville to be her final resting place until just before she died. In March 2009 Wilma "Billie" Barrows, the wife of Billy Graham's longtime Music Director Cliff Barrows, was interred on the Library grounds. In April 2013, Gospel singer and Graham's regular featured soloist George Beverly Shea was interred there as well. Barrows was buried next to his wife on the grounds after his death in November 2016.Graham's funeral following his February 21, 2018 death was conducted on March 2, 2018 in a tent, similar to the tents where he held his first crusades, on the grounds of the Library. Prior to the funeral, Graham had laid in repose in his childhood homeplace next to the library as well as lying in honor at the United States Capital in Washington, D.C. Following the funeral, Graham was buried next to his wife in the Library's Prayer Garden.

Charlotte Coliseum was a multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was operated by the Charlotte Coliseum Authority, which also oversees the operation of Bojangles' Coliseum (which was called Charlotte Coliseum prior to 1988), the Charlotte Convention Center, and Ovens Auditorium. It is best known as the home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets from 1988 to 2002, and the Charlotte Bobcats (now the second incarnation of the Hornets) from 2004 to 2005. The Coliseum hosted 371 consecutive NBA sell-outs from December 1988 to November 1997, which includes seven playoff games. It hosted its final NBA basketball game on October 26, 2005, a preseason game between the Charlotte Bobcats and the Indiana Pacers. The city of Charlotte sold the property and the building, along with a Maya Lin commission outside it, was demolished via implosion on June 3, 2007.

Hayes-Byrum Store and House is a historic home, store, and national historic district located near Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The store was built about 1890, and is a one-story, gable front, brick building. It measures 35 feet by 60 feet and has a wide, arched entrance with wooden double doors. North of the store is the two story, asymmetrical, Queen Anne style frame dwelling built about 1900. It has a cross-gable roof and features a cutaway bay. The store is considered the oldest surviving commercial building in rural Mecklenburg County.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

West Mecklenburg High School, colloquially known as West Meck, is a high school located in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System and was opened in 1951. The sports teams are known as the Hawks. Besides providing the standard state-mandated high school curriculum, the school also hosts several programs designed for advanced study, including the Academy for Medical Science, the Academy for Tourism and Travel, and Academy of International Languages.

Charlotte Regional Farmers Market is a farmers' market in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is also called Yorkmont Farmers Market because it is located on Yorkmont Road. The market sits on a 22-acre site. It opened in 1984, and it has expanded several times with the addition of a craft building in 2005. When it first opened, there were few local farmers market in the city. It is currently the largest farmers market in the county. It is operated by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. It is one of four state-operated farmers’ markets, the other ones being in Asheville, Greensboro, and Raleigh.The farmers' market has two retail produce buildings, one wholesale produce building, a craft building, and a greenery shed. The market is divided into five sheds, designed A through E. The three primary sheds are Building A, B, and C, whereas building D is empty wholesale space and building E is for nursery plants and food concessions. Building A contains goods from North Carolina. Many local growers have organized together and congregate on Saturdays in Building B. This is the most heavily trafficked building. Nevertheless, non-local and international goods can be found at the market. Building C has local products from South Carolina, crafts, and overflow from Building A. Overall, there are more than one hundred vendors that sell a variety of goods, such as meats, cheeses, produce, preserves, and baked goods. It is open Wednesday through Sunday. It operates all year round.In 2023, Charlotte Regional Farmers Market celebrated its first Harvest Festival.
