The Côte Bleue (French pronunciation: [kot blø]; Provençal Occitan: Còsta Blava; English: "Blue Coast") is part of Provence's southwestern coast on the Mediterranean Sea, reaching from northern Marseille in the east to the early Rhône river delta in the west, which constitutes the eastern part of the Camargue natural region, west of the Étang de Berre. It is wholly within the Bouches-du-Rhône department in Southern France.

Sausset-les-Pins (French pronunciation: ​[sosɛ le pɛ̃]; Occitan: Sausset dei Pins) or simply Sausset is a seaside commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southern France. It is located on the Côte Bleue, just west of Carry-le-Rouet. It is part of the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis. In 2019, Sausset-les-Pins had a population of 7,581.

Ensuès-la-Redonne (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃sɥɛs la ʁədɔn]; Occitan: En Suá la Redona) is a seaside commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region in Southern France. It is located on the Côte Bleue, 15 km (9.3 mi) west of Marseille, within the larger Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis. The commune was created in 1933 from parts of Châteauneuf-les-Martigues and Le Rove.

Le Rove (French pronunciation: [lə ʁɔv]; Occitan: Lo Rove) is a seaside commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southern France.It is located on the Côte Bleue just northwest of Marseille, neighbouring its 16th arrondissement within the larger Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis. It consists of a main village at Le Rove which houses the town hall, as well as a variety of hamlets and other settlements. The Rove Tunnel, the world's longest canal tunnel at 7,120 metres (23,360 ft), has its southeastern entrance situated in Marseille near Le Rove, although a sizeable portion crosses the commune underground (from the Mediterranean towards the Étang de Berre), hence its name. It has been out of service since 1963. Georges Rosso, the mayor of Le Rove, is the oldest mayor of any French city, at 93 years of age.

The canton of Marignane is an administrative division of the Bouches-du-Rhône department, in southeastern France. At the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015, it was expanded from 2 to 7 communes. The Étang de Berre ([e.tɑ̃ də bɛʁ], "Lagoon of Berre"; in Provençal Occitan: estanh de Bèrra / mar de Bèrra according to classical orthography, estang de Berro / mar de Berro according to Mistralian orthography) is a brackish water lagoon on the Mediterranean coast of France, about 25 kilometres (16 mi) north-west of Marseille.

The Battle of the River Berre was fought in 737 between the Arab and Berber Muslim forces of Yusuf ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Fihri, Arab Umayyad Muslim governor of Septimania on behalf of al-Andalus, and the Frankish Christian army led by the Carolingian king Charles Martel during the siege of Narbonne. The battle, which took place at the mouth of the River Berre (now in the Département of Aude), was a significant victory for Charles Martel in the military campaigns of 736–737. During this period, Martel effectively prevented greater Umayyad expansion beyond the Pyrénées.
