Foxton Locks

The Foxton Inclined Plane is a canal inclined plane on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal about 5 km (3.1 mi) west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough, named after the nearby village of Foxton. The plane was built in 1900 as a solution to various operational restrictions imposed by the Foxton Lock flight. However, it was not a commercial success and only remained in full-time operation for ten years. The plane was dismantled in 1926. A project to re-create the plane commenced in the 2000s because the narrowbeam locks remain a bottleneck for leisure boat traffic.

Foxton is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district, in the county of Leicestershire, England, to the north-west of Market Harborough. The village is on the Grand Union Canal and is a short walk to the site of the Foxton Locks and Foxton Inclined Plane. Swingbridge Street still has a working swing bridge that allows people and vehicles to pass over the canal, which can be opened to allow canal boats to pass. There are two public houses in the village, a village hall, and a primary school. Foxton is serviced by Market Harborough train station which is approximately 3 miles away. London and Birmingham can each be reached by train in approximately 50 minutes.

Harborough () is a constituency covering the south east of Leicestershire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2017 by Neil O'Brien of the Conservative Party. It is considered a safe seat for the Conservative Party, as there has been a Conservative representative elected since 1924 (with a brief 5 year interlude from the Labour Party in 1945). Under the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the constituency will only be subject to minor boundary changes, but is to be renamed Harborough, Oadby and Wigston - to be first contested at the next general election.

The Tower House, formerly known as The Cottage or Lubenham Cottage is a Grade II listed Georgian house in Lubenham, Leicestershire, England. It is situated to the north of the churchyard on Rushes Lane. Originally a farmhouse, it was enlarged by Cubitts in 1865 as a hunting box for Benedict John "Cherry" Angell, with adjoining stables added in 1852. During the enlargement a tower was added to survey nearby horse racing. It became a Grade II listed building on 9 March 1989.

In 1931 the parish had a population of 33.Thorpe Lubenham lies to the south of the Leicestershire village of Lubenham and south of the River Welland which forms the county boundary. Thorpe Lubenham was formerly an extra-parochial tract, from 1858 Thorpe Lubenham was a civil parish in its own right until it was abolished on 1 April 1935, and merged with Marston Trussell.

It is close to Saddington, Kibworth and Fleckney and is situated 500m North of the Grand union canal. Smeeton Westerby is approximately 6.8 miles from the nearest railway station which is located in Market Harborough. The closest area for shops is Kibworth, which is approximately 1.4 miles North of Smeeton Westerby. Kibworth has numerous shops and in 2002 many new shops appeared, including a new branch of the Co-op UK. Smeeton Westerby doesn't have any shops of its own but it does have a traditional village pub, a village hall, a parish church plus several stables and farms.

St Nicholas's Church is an Anglican church and the parish church of Marston Trussell in Northamptonshire, England. It is a Grade I listed building and stands on the south side of Lubenham Road at the eastern edge of the village. The record made in 1086 for Marston Trussell in the Domesday Book does not mention the presence of a priest or a church.The main structure of the present building was erected in the 13th and 14th centuries. It now consists of a nave, north and south aisles, chancel and west tower. A detailed description appears on the Historic England website.The parish registers survive from 1561, the historic registers being deposited at Northamptonshire Record Office.Marston Trussell is part of a united benefice along with Sibbertoft and Welford. Each parish retains its own church building.
