Holy Roman Emperor Charles V had won a victory against Protestant forces in the Schmalkaldic War of 1547. Many Protestant princes were unhappy with the religious terms of the Augsburg Interim imposed after this victory. In January 1552, led by Maurice of Saxony, many formed an alliance with Henry II of France at the Treaty of Chambord. In return for French funding and assistance, Henry was promised lands in western Germany. In the ensuing Princes' Revolt, also known as the Second Schmalkaldic War, Charles was driven out of Germany to his ancestral lands in Austria, Innsbruck by the Protestant alliance, while Henry captured the three Rhine Bishoprics of Metz, Verdun and Toul. In August 1552, weary from three decades of religious civil war, Charles guaranteed Lutheran religious freedoms in the Peace of Passau. The implementation of the Augsburg Interim was cancelled. The Protestant princes taken prisoner during the Schmalkaldic War, John Frederick of Saxony and Philip of Hesse, were released. A precursor to the Peace of Augsburg of September 1555, the Peace of Passau effectively surrendered Charles V's lifelong quest for European religious unity.In August 1552 his younger brother Archduke Ferdinand I of Austria concluded the Peace of Passau, whereby he formally accepted the Lutheran Augsburg Confession, confirmed by the emperor himself in the 1555 Peace of Augsburg.

Frankfurt-Rödelheim station is a regional and S-Bahn station in western Frankfurt am Main, Germany on the Homburg line, in the district of Rödelheim. The Kronberg line branches off the Homburg line north of the station and the junction with the Rebstock curve of the former Bad Nauheim–Wiesbaden line (Bäderbahn) is south of the station. The station connects with several bus lines.

Au is the name of a building that has been squatted since 1983 in Rödelheim in Frankfurt, Germany. It bills itself as a 'self-organised cultural Centre and living project' (German: Selbstverwaltetes Kulturelles Zentrum und Wohnprojekt).Au was home to the Au Squat Festival on June 3, 2006, featuring many punk rock bands such as The Restarts. The 2007 festival was on June 9 with bands such as Sensa Yuma and the 2008 festival took place on June 7 with headliners Life... But How to Live It?. Any profits went to human rights organizations and were also given to antifascist networks and other autonomous centres. Beside the open air festival there are many other concerts and cultural or political events during the year.

Frankfurt-Griesheim station (German: Bahnhof Frankfurt-Griesheim) is a railway station located in the Griesheim district of Frankfurt, Germany. The station is part of the Main-Lahn Railway. It is at the beginning of the western approach to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, which runs for about five kilometres and is up to 600 metres wide. The station is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station. Today it is served only by lines S1 and S 2 of the Rhine-Main S-Bahn.

Praunheim is a quarter of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It is part of the Ortsbezirk Mitte-West and is subdivided into five Stadtbezirke: Praunheim, Praunheim-Nord, Praunheim-Süd, Alt-Praunheim and Westhausen. It is located along the north bank of the river Nidda and is composed of two areas: Alt Praunheim (old Praunheim), a typical Hessian village with a central commercial street and some timber beam houses, located to the east and the Siedlung Praunheim, a residential development built in the 1920s under the auspices of town planner Ernst May located to the west. The development comprises 1500 houses that were built from 1926 through 1929. Praunheim belonged to the Archbishopric of Mainz. Ecclesiastical Middle Authority was the Archdeacon of the provost of St. Peter in Mainz. Notable residents of Praunheim have included the jazz trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff, his brother, the saxophonist Emil Mangelsdorff and film maker Rosa von Praunheim.

Rödelheim is a quarter of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It is part of the Ortsbezirk Mitte-West and is subdivided into the Stadtbezirke Rödelheim-Ost and Rödelheim-West. There are a number of celebrities who have established their base in Rödelheim, including Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt, Mathias Barbosa and Sabrina Setlur. For many centuries and until the Nazi era, it was a major center for the printing and export of Hebrew books. Wolf Heidenheim and Seligman Baer, two highly prominent Hebrew grammarians and masoretic scholars of the modern period, both published in Rödelheim. In 2015 the skeletons of 200 French soldiers that had died in 1813 were discovered here.
