Battle of Alarcos

Alarcos is a small hill and archaeological site located in the Campo de Calatrava region of the Iberian Peninsula. Standing at 685 metres above mean sea level, the hill is made of quartzite rocks together with lithic components of volcanic origin, and the Guadiana river flows next to it. It features an archaeological site on top, in between the Spanish municipalities of Poblete and Ciudad Real. The archaeological sites features a Bronze/Iron Age Iberian oppidum, as well as a phase of medieval occupation, which includes the Castle of Alarcos. The site was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1992.

Quijote Arena is an arena in Ciudad Real, Spain. It is primarily used for team handball and was the home arena of BM Ciudad Real. The arena holds 6,863 people and was opened in 2004. It is located on the Avenida de Puertollano, and is owned by the municipality of Ciudad Real. In September 2014, BM Alarcos Ciudad Real confirmed they would start to play their home games at Quijote Arena.

The Holy Priory Church Cathedral Basilica of the Military Order of Our Lady Saint Mary of the Prado of Ciudad Real is located in Ciudad Real, Autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. Construction began in the 15th century in Gothic style, although it has elements of late Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque styles; it has undergone many restorations with the first remodelling credited to Alfonso X (23 November 1221 – 4 April 1284) since the Romanesque period. It was completed in the mid 16th century after construction of the roof vaults. The tower was built in the early 19th century. The structure is a monument indexed in the Spanish heritage register of Bien de Interés Cultural under the reference RI-51-0000514.

The Diocese of Ciudad Real (Latin: Dioecesis Civitatis Regalensis) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church located in the city of Ciudad Real in the ecclesiastical province of Toledo in Spain.

The Provincial Museum of Ciudad Real (Spanish: Museo Provincial de Ciudad Real) is a paleontology and archaeology museum in Ciudad Real, Spain. It is jointly operated with the fine arts museum housed in the Convent of La Merced.

The Campo de Calatrava volcanic field is a volcanic field in Spain. The volcanic field is in the centre of the province of Ciudad Real, in a region known as Campo de Calatrava. The volcanic field has an area of more than 5000 km2 and more than 300 individual structures and contains pyroclastic cones, lava domes and maars. The field erupted basaltic to foiditic lavas from the Pliocene to the Holocene in Columba volcano with phreatomagmatic activity, and fumaroles were observed in the 16th-18th centuries in the Sierra de Valenzuela territory. Earlier activity has been subdivided in several phases. The first affecting mostly the centre of the field is K-Ar dated between 8.7 and 6.4 Ma. A second phase occurred in the Pleistocene 1.3 Ma and 0.7 Ma. The maars involve both hard-substrate maars formed in metasediments of the basement and soft-substrate maars in Pliocene unconsolidated sediments. Both types of maars are distributed in NE-SW and NW-SE directions following faults established during the Miocene. During the lower Pliocene, the system underwent uplift and erosion. Some maars contain sediments including travertine possibly related to carbon dioxide emissions. Gas emissions, sometimes increased following earthquake activity, are common in the field and include hydrogen sulfide, CO2 and water.

Ciudad Real (US: , Spanish: [θjuˈðað reˈal]; English: "Royal City") is a municipality of Spain located in the autonomous community of Castile–La Mancha, capital of the province of Ciudad Real. It is the 5th most populated municipality in the region.

Ciudad Real railway station (Spanish: Estación de Ciudad Real) is the main railway station of the Spanish city of Ciudad Real, Castilla–La Mancha. Located on the AVE high-speed rail line from Madrid Atocha to Seville-Santa Justa and Málaga María Zambrano, travel to Madrid can be achieved in under an hour.

Ciudad Real International Airport or CRIA (IATA: CQM, ICAO: LERL), previously known as Central Airport CR, Don Quijote Airport and South Madrid Airport, is an international airport and long-storage facility situated south of Ciudad Real in Spain. Constructed at a cost of €1.1 billion, it was opened in 2009, when it became the first private international airport in Spain. It was featured on the British television series Top Gear (season 20, episode 3) and gained popularity later on, thanks to the show. Operations at the site ran for three years until April 2012, when its previous management company filed for bankruptcy and went into receivership, after the last flight operator, low-cost airline Vueling, withdrew its last route from the airport. It remained closed for seven years until reopening in September 2019, however without any scheduled passenger traffic.

Cañada de Calatrava is a municipality in Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. The municipality borders Ciudad Real and Villar del Pozo to the east, Caracuel de Calatrava and Corral de Calatrava to the west, and Argamasilla de Calatrava to the south. It has an area of 29.9 km2 with a population of 92 inhabitants (INE 2018) and a density of 3.68/km2.

Villar del Pozo is a municipality of Spain located in the province of Ciudad Real, Castilla–La Mancha. The municipality spans across a total area of 13.14 km2 and, as of 1 January 2020, it has a registered population of 61.

"The Epic Split feat. Van Damme (Live Test)" is a 75-second-long commercial released in November 2013 by Volvo Trucks, as the sixth commercial in their "Live Tests" advertising campaign. The commercial was made to demonstrate the stability of the Volvo FM trucks while using their implementation of dynamic steering. It features Jean-Claude Van Damme performing a split on the wing mirrors between two backwards moving trucks set to the music "Only Time" by Enya. The commercial was recorded in a single take at the abandoned Ciudad Real International Airport in Spain during a sunrise. It was produced by the agency Forsman & Bodenfors and was directed by Andreas Nilsson. It has won several awards, and multiple parodies were based on the commercial.
